Why do people need the ascended masters?

TOPICS: The ego makes you spiritually blind – creates an alternate “reality” – are you teachable? – you need a teacher form outside your alternate reality – ask and you will receive – pride creates a catch-22 – recognizing that you need a teacher – recognizing a true teacher – you can contact God directly, but… – ONLY road to salvation is oneness with Chain of Being – master-disciple relationship – Jesus illustrated the master-disciple relationship – no person can single-handedly save the world –

Question from Kim: Jesus, I sometimes meet people who ask why we need the ascended masters. In fact, since I started doing this website, I have encountered several people who made one or more of the following claims:

  • We can contact or experience God directly.
  • There are no other beings between us and God, and we need nothing in order to experience God or unite with God and be saved or ascend.
  • Ascended masters don’t exist but are figments of people’s imagination.
  • Ascended masters are false teachers or impostors who are trying to get people’s energy.
  • We don’t need a teacher or savior in order to grow on the spiritual path or be saved/ascend.

It has been my experience that such people are very convinced that they are right, and there is seemingly nothing that will convince them otherwise. In fact, several people have contacted me claiming that they were appointed directly by God to act as the one and only savior for humankind and literally save the entire universe. Some of them even wanted me to use my position as a messenger to promote them, validate them or help them start their missions.
Obviously, some of these people would say that anything you answer is false or unreal, since you either don’t exist or are a false teacher. So I am not bringing this up for these people’s sake but in order to help others understand why we need the ascended masters and why we need spiritual teachers.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

This is an extremely important topic, and it is essential for all true spiritual seekers to understand the teachings I will give here. Understanding why you need a teacher, savior or intercessor is the ONLY way for people to avoid being trapped by the subtleties of spiritual pride. Let me start with a general observation and then comment on the specific points you raise above.

As I explain in my ego discourses, the essential problem with the human ego is that it makes you spiritually blind. The ego uses the dualistic logic of the mind of anti-christ to create its own world view, and it then elevates it to the status of infallibility. The ego literally creates a false identity, and once the Conscious You steps into that identity, it sees the world through a filter, like a person wearing colored glasses.

Once people are trapped in such a false identity and have accepted that it is ultimately real, they will be completely unable to see its inconsistencies and unwilling to admit its shortcomings. As I also explain in the ego discourses, the ego is always trying to create the impression that its salvation is guaranteed, and that is why it seeks to create these infallible belief systems. Obviously, the belief that you are absolutely right can only lead to pride, and many people think they are very spiritual, but they are simply blinded by spiritual pride. That is why it is impossible to reason with such people, and they are often unreachable even for the most experienced spiritual teachers. They are not teachable.

So why do you need a spiritual teacher—specifically a teacher who has risen above the subtleties of the human ego and spiritual pride? Because while the Conscious You is inside the mental box – the false identity – created by the ego and the forces of duality, you simply cannot see beyond that mental box. You cannot see God’s reality, the undivided truth of the Christ mind. Instead, everything you see is colored – often in subtle ways – by the dualistic logic of the mind of anti-christ, which will seem very convincing to you while you are inside the ego’s box.

Those spiritual seekers who are honest with themselves will know that there are many situations where they find it difficult to tell right from wrong or truth from error. They often wonder whether their beliefs or actions are right, and they often feel like it is impossible to separate reality from unreality. As I explain elsewhere, this magnificent confusion is actually far better than being trapped in spiritual pride, where you think you know everything and thus you don’t need a teacher. The reason being that if you ask, you will receive help from your Christ self and from the true spiritual teachers of humankind. True teachers are not inside your ego’s mental box, they are not blinded by your false identity or by spiritual pride. Therefore, they are your lifeline, your anchor point, your frame of reference, that will empower you to gradually increase your Christ discernment until you can see the reality that the teachers see.

In short, you need a spiritual teacher because the ONLY way to escape the subtleties of the ego’s mental box is to establish contact with someone who is outside that box. You cannot solve a problem with the same state of consciousness that created the problem. You cannot pull yourself up by your own bootstraps, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven without putting on the wedding garment (Matthew 22:11) of the Christ consciousness. The ego will claim that you can do this, and many false teachers will claim that you can be saved by them or without a teacher. Yet the reality is that you can ONLY escape the illusions created by the duality consciousness by making contact with something outside the veil of illusion.

Unfortunately, the spiritual pride of the ego often creates a catch-22 from which people find it very difficult to escape. Once you believe you know everything and that your beliefs are absolutely true, it follows that you will think you don’t need a teacher. Therefore, people in this trap often cannot recognize a true teacher. To use a popular saying, “They wouldn’t recognize a true teacher if he bit them in the leg.” This is illustrated in the following quote (from John, Chapter 8), which shows that when I walked the earth, certain people could not recognize me as the Living Christ:

31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

Take note that these people did not even recognize that they needed to be set free, which is typical of people who are completely blinded by the pride of the ego. They think they are so special – in this case because they were children of Abraham, but there are a million of such “reasons” – that their salvation is guaranteed, so why would they need the Living Christ?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Again, these people could not see their own sin because of spiritual blindness, so they thought they were free of sin. Yet anything you do based on the illusions of anti-christ will enslave you in the ego’s mental box. And only the Son – as my often used symbol for the universal Christ mind – can truly set you free. Only what is outside of duality – because it forever resides in the Father’s house, meaning in oneness with God – can set you free from the illusions of duality.

37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

Here they cannot even see that even though they claim to be Abraham’s children, they are not behaving as Abraham because they seek to kill the Living Christ—which Abraham would never have done because he had the Christ discernment to recognize the messenger of the Lord.

40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

In their spiritual pride, these people now claim to have God as their father (is God or Abraham their “only” father?), but how can God be your father when you have left off oneness with God, the oneness that can be obtained and maintained only through the Christ mind? It is typical that those in spiritual pride will invoke an ultimate authority and will even claim to have the authority of Christ, being completely unable to see that they are trapped in the illusions and delusions of anti-christ.

43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Although I was fairly harsh here, I was actually talking to a specific group of fallen beings for whom I represented the last chance to recognize a true teacher before they would face the judgment on the last day (John 12:48). The “last day” referring to the end of opportunity for these specific beings—not to the end of the world as many Christians think.

45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Again, these people were so blinded by the illusions of their egos that they could not even understand my words. They could not recognize any truth in my words, because there was no element of truth in their beings with which my words could create a resonance that they could recognize with their intuitive faculties. Yet the fact is that there are many beings in embodiment today who are equally trapped in their mental boxes and thus unable to recognize a true teacher. Even if I appeared physically on the earth today, many of these people would not recognize me, as they will not recognize those who have attained some degree of personal Christhood.

Sadly, many of these people are leaders of Christian churches, but a fair amount of them are found in New Age or spiritual circles. The main characteristic that exposes such people is that they often have a greatly inflated sense of their own importance. Thus, when someone believes that he or she is appointed by some being with ultimate authority and has been given the mission of single-handedly saving the earth or even the universe, you know you are dealing with a person who is trapped in spiritual pride—and there really is NO exception to this statement. Why this is so will become clear as I comment on the points raised above.

Let me comment on the first idea, namely that people can contact or experience God directly. As explained elsewhere, the Conscious You is an extension of the Creator’s Being. Therefore, it is true that you can experience God directly, for the conscious self has the ability to project itself anywhere it chooses. Thus, when the conscious self realizes that it is an extension of the Creator’s Being, it can experience its own source, it can experience – at least in a glimpse – the Creator’s consciousness.

However, here comes a very important, but subtle, point. Experiencing God is something that is beyond words, images or concepts. Therefore, having a direct experience of God’s Being is NOT the same as having a verbal communication with God!!!

The importance of this statement cannot be overemphasized, and here is why. Your conscious self can experience its source, but the Creator NEVER communicates directly with any being on earth. The reason is that the vibration of the material universe is so far below the vibration of the Creator, that if God manifested its Presence in the forcefield of this planet – or in the forcefield of any individual being in a physical body – the entire planet or the person would be consumed by God’s light, or fire. When he was on the mountain, Moses experienced God as a burning fire, but this was not the vibrations of the Creator itself. God’s light had been stepped down – by spiritual beings in higher realms – to a level of vibration that would accelerate Moses’ mind without consuming him completely. That is why he saw a bush that burned with fire but was not consumed (Exodus 3:2).

As explained elsewhere, the world of form was created in stages. One sphere was set apart from the void, self-aware co-creators were sent into that sphere, and when their sphere reached a critical intensity of light, it became a permanent part of the spiritual realm. The beings who had attained mastery in a given sphere now helped co-create the next sphere, and the beings who were sent into that sphere were extensions of the masters from the previous sphere. In the very first sphere that was created, the Creator sent extensions of itself into that sphere. When they had attained mastery, they co-created the next sphere and then sent extensions of themselves into it. In other words, this Chain of Being started with the Creator and has been extended through all spheres, including the one in which you live.

The reason why people on earth are not guaranteed to be saved is that most of them have become trapped in the consciousness of duality in which they see themselves separated from their source. Ultimately, your source is God, but because you are an extension of the Chain of Being that reaches from the Creator to you, your source really is the entire chain of being, meaning all spiritual beings above you. Thus, the ONLY road to salvation or immortality is to attain oneness with your entire Chain of Being. People need to be saved because they have become separated from their source, so the only road to salvation is to overcome this separation. And when you do so, you will not only see yourself as one with God but as one with the entire spiritual hierarchy above you.

As I said, your conscious self is an extension of the Creator’s Being and thus you can experience the Creator directly. This experience really does happen through the Chain of Being above you, but an immature seeker may not be aware of this. Likewise, any communication from God to you happens through the Chain of Being, and again an immature seeker may not be aware of this. So it is possible that people will receive communication from above without realizing that it comes through the Chain of Being—which is the same as the ascended masters.

Yet as people raise their awareness, they will become aware of the Chain of Being and they will therefore acknowledge it, including acknowledging the reality of the ascended masters (or whatever name they use). My point is that if a person claims to be communicating directly with God and claims that there is no intermediary between that person and God, then that person is either immature or is making a false claim. I know there are people who will vehemently deny this, so let me give a simple analogy.

Let us imagine that a modern person becomes convinced that he is a descendant of Christopher Columbus, but he denies that there were any generations between him and Columbus. In other words, he claims to be a direct descendant of Columbus and rejects the family tree that shows the generations between himself and his distant forefather. Obviously, people would think this is a silly claim as you cannot be a direct descendant of a person who lived 500 years ago. Well, it is equally silly to claim that you descended directly from God or that you communicate directly with God without going through the “generations” that preceded you in the Creator’s continual expression of itself in form.

Let me give another analogy. The pages of this website are stored on a computer in the United States. A person in Australia can access the website and bring it up on her screen. Yet that computer is connected to the server through a complicated link of wires, hubs and servers that relay the information. In other words, the information does not go directly from the server to the persons computer but must follow a path through the network of servers that makes up the internet. The person does not see this, but if the person claimed to be receiving the information directly from the server without any intermediary, one would have to say that the person was ignorant of reality or was deliberately making a false claim.

Let me say this even more directly. The ONLY road to salvation is to attain oneness with your source, but as a human being on earth, you cannot attain oneness directly with the Creator. The reason being that the intensity of the Creator’s light would burn up your entire lifestream. Thus you must begin by attaining oneness with a Being who has risen above duality and attained immortality, but who is not so far above you in vibration that its vibrations would erase your identity. And then, when you have attained this first stage of oneness, you can move on to attaining oneness with the next link in your personal Chain of Being. And ONLY after you go through each of the links in the chain can you attain the fullness of God consciousness.

This is what has been called the master-disciple, or guru-chela, relationship, where a student attains oneness with the teacher and thereby attains the same state of consciousness as the teacher. This is the time-honored method whereby ALL beings who ever ascended have attained their immortality. There simply is no other way. Claiming that you – as a person on earth – can sidestep this process and attain oneness directly with the Creator is ignorance. It might be the willful ignorance of spiritual pride, but it is still ignorance.

Hopefully, this should have addressed all of the concerns listed in the question. The ascended masters do indeed exist, and we do not need anything from people on earth. However, because we know that people are extensions of the greater beings out of which we too are extensions, we naturally want to help people overcome their separation, which is what I called spiritual death. We want to give all people the same spiritual life – the sense of oneness with the Chain of Being – that we have attained.

Yet we also know that people can attain this ONLY by becoming one with us in the master-disciple relationship. Many Christians do not understand that I came to illustrate this relationship. The reason is that because of the idolatry built around me, I was elevated to the only son of God, and thus the church could not acknowledge that I had a master above me. Yet my personal master, or guru, was and is Lord Maitreya, and I often referred to him as my Father, for example when I said, “I and my father are one” (John 10:30).

When I won my ascension, I became the next guru in the Chain of Being, which is why I could say, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). This does not mean that people have to become members of an outer Christian church, but it does mean that no one can ascend from earth or communicate with God without going through the spiritual office I hold for this planet, an office that is under the office of Maitreya and the Chain of Being above us, which includes the Office of Lord of the World held by Gautama Buddha.

Thus, if a person claims to be communicating directly with God and at the same time denies the existence of the ascended masters, you can know with absolute certainty that the person is either immature or is deliberately making a false claim. There really are no exceptions to this, for while a teacher may not talk about those above him, no true teacher will deliberately deny that we exist. In other words, some true teachers will not mention us, but no true teacher will denounce us.

Concerning the people mentioned in the question who believe they are communicating directly with the highest God and that they have been appointed to single-handedly save the universe or perform some other feat of cosmic significance, these people are simply so trapped in spiritual pride that they are unreachable. Their egos have created the ultimate dualistic illusion  in an attempt to prove that their salvation is guaranteed. There literally is NO other explanation, as no member of the ascended masters would ever claim to be single-handedly saving the earth or the universe.

We truly work as part of a team, which is why I said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.” (John 5:19). Because we are above the delusions of the ego, we know that no single person can ever save this planet. If that had been possible, do you not think that Krishna, the Buddha or myself would already have saved the planet? And if the planet was saved, do you think the things you see in the daily headlines would still be happening?

Take note here that I am not saying that a person cannot receive communication from God. Yet if it is genuinely from God, then the person or the communication itself will acknowledge the Chain of Being, as in this example. Unfortunately, those who are lost in the ego’s illusions can think they are communicating with God while in reality working with an impostor in the emotional or mental realm. It may be impossible to convince such people that they are wrong, but I hope those who are open to this website will now avoid following such false or delusional teachers.

The simple reality is that the ascended masters are not some external beings who are seeking to force or manipulate you. We are part of your own higher being, your Chain of Being. It is only those who are lost in separation who will see us as enemies or deny our existence. Unfortunately, even some ascended master students fail to overcome the sense of separation and still see us as above and beyond themselves. Coming into oneness with us is truly the ONLY key to coming into oneness with your own higher being. What I said about myself applies to all ascended masters, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture” (John 10:9). Stop following the many lawyers who reject us, for we are the key of knowledge:

Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. (Luke 11:52)

When you have the key of knowledge, you affirm the oneness of all life, as above, so below.

Why true teachers will challenge false teachings

TOPICS: The difference between judgment and discernment – the role of a teacher is to give you the option to choose a higher truth – it is truly loving to challenge your illusions –

Question: I have friends who are very disturbed by your talk of dark forces and false teachers. They say that true seekers do not compare and do not judge others, because there is only One Humanity and One Love.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

It is correct that true spiritual seekers do not judge, but it MUST be understood that there is a fundamental difference between judgment and discernment. Judgment is when you have a personal attachment, and thus you project your own consciousness upon others. Discernment is when you have no attachment and simply compare other people’s beliefs and actions to Christ truth, thus separating truth from untruth.

You can only grow by being willing to challenge the beliefs that you think are correct but that miss the mark of Christ truth. Thus, a spiritual teacher can ONLY help a student by separating truth from error and giving the student the opportunity to choose. As long as a person is completely enveloped in the veil of Maya, that person has no real option to choose truth because he or she has never experienced Christ truth. Thus, the role of a true spiritual teacher or messenger is to give people that option.

Yet until students reach the point where they are willing to challenge their most cherished beliefs, they will resist this action and they will often resent the teacher—biting the hand that feeds them. People in black-and-white thinking will project their fears upon any challenging teaching, saying that if it disagrees with their only true teaching it must be of the devil. People in gray thinking will project their incorrect view of love upon a teaching, saying that if it challenges their beliefs, it cannot be from the highest source. My point being that a wise student will consider the following: “Is a teaching truly judgmental, or do I see it as such because there is a beam in my own eye that I need to remove?” This is the attitude that leads to progress.

You might also consider the situation faced by the ascended masters. We clearly see that people are stuck in certain illusions. We see through those illusions and we see that people cannot see through them. We also see that many people are reluctant to let go of the illusions, yet the illusions block their growth. Should we be “loving” and not challenge people’s illusions, or should we do the only thing that can help people grow, namely challenge their illusions? If you prefer the former, you are not yet teachable for a true spiritual teacher and will make yourself a follower of the false teachers who will – to the end of time – tell you what you want to hear.

When you are trapped in gray thinking, you think any teaching should be as “good” as any other teaching and thus a loving teacher would never label anyone else as a false teacher. Yet the consequence of this belief is that you either ignore the existence of false teachers or truly believe there are no false teachings. This is only possible when you completely ignore the myriad of atrocities that are occurring on this planet, and I am fully aware that many spiritual seekers go around with their heads in the clouds, saying, “See no evil, hear no evil.”

The reality is that humankind needs true spiritual teachers precisely because for a long time they have been following the false teachers. As part of our job, the true spiritual teachers must expose the false teachers and their teachings. Doing so is not unloving—it is the highest form of love. Allowing people to remain in their ignorance and illusion would be truly unloving.

Look for a spiritual teacher who challenges you instead of telling you what your ego wants to hear

TOPICS: Looking for a messenger who says what your ego wants to hear – the ascended masters can help you see what your ego does not want you to see – mature students seek out teachings that challenge them – the direct and the indirect way of teaching – many spiritual people are gentle and prefer a gentle guru – you learn more from a guru who is not like you – some students trapped in gray thinking and do not want a direct guru – splitting hairs over the use of wording – a true message demonstrates that there is something beyond the dualistic consciousness – higher truth, versus “relative truth” – a true teacher must challenge you so you cannot remain indifferent – the ego can use even a true teaching to imprison you, so sometimes even this must be challenged – a limited view of love as always being soft – if you think you know better than the teacher, then you are not teachable – imparting the teacher’s consciousness to the student –

Question: I have noticed that some dictations are very direct, even stern. I have friends who say a true ascended master would never speak in such a way and that masters are always kind and loving. Do you have a response to that?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

There is a very important turning point on the path when you begin to take responsibility for yourself and become willing to change yourself. At the beginning stages of this process, people still have some insecurity, so they look for spiritual teachings that make them feel good, tell them what they want to hear and don’t challenge their existing beliefs too much. This is natural, and I am not blaming people for this reaction. However, there is a limit to how much you can grow as long as you maintain this approach.

There is also a real danger that you will take a time-consuming detour into the gray thinking described in my ego discourse. The process is simple. When you rise above black-and-white thinking, you will be confronted with the temptation to engage in gray thinking. Since you no longer believe in an infallible authority, the ego will seek to make you believe that no messenger or channeler is completely objective and reliable. Thus, it really doesn’t matter which one you follow, so you might as well follow one you like. However, for many people this means they end up following a messenger their egos like because the teachings do not challenge the ego. What the ego is really saying is that you should accept no authority as being above the ego, and thus you should ignore any teacher or teaching that challenges your ego’s pet theories. If you fall into this trap, how will you ever see through the illusions of the ego?

My point is that when you become a more mature seeker, you realize the fundamental mechanism behind all true channelings/messages. The simple fact is that the ascended masters have a higher state of consciousness than you do. Thus, your advantage of studying our teachings is that we can help you see what you cannot see and what your ego does not want you to see. We can tell you what your ego does not want you to hear and what students who still identify with their egos do not want to hear.

It is an eternal fact that immature and insecure students seek out messages that tell them what they want to hear and never challenge their most cherished beliefs. In contrast, mature students deliberately seek out teachings that DO challenge their most cherished beliefs. As you mature, you realize that the real value of the ascended master’s teachings is that they do challenge your beliefs, thus compelling you to reach beyond the ego’s dualistic understanding. This is simply the only way you will come up higher.

When I talk about challenging your beliefs, I am not simply talking about the words spoken and the teachings given. I am talking about a more general approach. In his book Autobiography of a Yogi – which I highly recommend that all spiritual seekers read – Paramahansa Yogananda describes a discussion with his guru about the two main methods employed by spiritual teachers.

Yogananda’s guru, Shri Yukteswar, is a very stern and direct guru who openly and often harshly challenges his students and mercilessly points out flaws in their beliefs, attitude and behavior. Yukteswar explains that it is simply his way, and that Yogananda’s way is to be much more gentle, soft-spoken and more patient with his disciples, preferring them to discover their own flaws rather than pointing them out. One method is not generally better or more efficient than another, as each method works best for certain levels of consciousness.

My point here is that there is a large number of spiritual seekers who are naturally very loving, kind and gentle people, as was Yogananda. Such students will naturally prefer the gentle type of guru and will generally shun the direct type of guru, fearing to be hurt by his sternness. Yet there was a reason Yogananda – who was a gentle guru – had a stern guru. The reason is that you will make the fastest progress by selecting a guru that is the opposite of your own type, for this will give you more balance in your own being. If you are a gentle person, you need to reach a point where you are not in the least bothered by a direct guru, and if you are the direct type, you need to learn the patience of a gentle guru.

There is a level of consciousness that is prone to gray thinking. This consciousness causes students to interpret spiritual teachings to mean what they want to hear, thus not being able to free themselves from the dualistic logic of the ego. I can assure you that such students are very difficult to reach, for some of them truly think they know better than the ascended masters, even better than God, which is why they descended to earth in the first place and have not risen above it.

So when evaluating a spiritual teaching, be very careful that you do not project your own beliefs and opinions upon the teaching or the spiritual master who gives it. A message can be affected by the mind of the messenger, but the mind of the student can also affect how the message is interpreted. Thus, be willing to look for the beam in your own eye, for it is only by removing it that YOU will progress.

Another common pitfall is that some seekers focus on the exact outer form of a given message or a messenger’s work, often comparing it to other teachings or what the person wants to believe. This has caused many otherwise open-minded spiritual seekers to become almost fundamentalists with certain new teachings, splitting hairs over whether a particular wording is correct according to this or that standard. Let me tell a little analogy to illustrate this.

Imagine you have grown up in a dark cave. After fumbling your way around for years, you come upon a tube sticking out of the wall. The tube is a kaleidoscope, and as you look into it, you see light streaming through it from outside the cave. As all kaleidoscopes, it has a number of glass pieces inside it, so the light is somewhat colored as it passes through. Yet the real significance of your discovery is that it proves beyond any doubt that THERE IS A WORLD OUTSIDE YOUR DARK CAVE! Thus, instead of continuing to look at the light through the kaleidoscope, you can look for the door so you can enter the light yourself.

The fundamental significance of all true spiritual messages is that they demonstrate for those who have eyes to see that there is a higher level of consciousness than the level at which they are trapped. There are spiritual teachers at that level who can communicate with people and thus help them rise to the ascended consciousness. As I said 2,000 years ago, “God is a Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).

The meaning is that genuine messages from the ascended masters are given from a higher level of consciousness. The outer form of the messages is not nearly as significant as the fact that they come from a higher Spirit. To truly “get the message” we seek to pass on, you must raise your consciousness and make a direct INNER contact with the Spirit of Truth that we are. If you focus your attention on the outer form of the message, you will not attain that direct experience, and thus our messages will not set you free. Instead, they will simply be used by your ego to keep you trapped at a certain level of consciousness.

As I explain in my ego discourses and in many other places, the essential problem on planet earth is that people have descended into a lower state of consciousness in which they are trapped in what the Buddha called Maya, meaning ignorance and illusion. The veil of Maya prevents them from seeing the higher truth of the Christ mind, and instead they can only see the relative “truth” springing from the mind of anti-christ.

The trick here is that people do not realize their beliefs are relative illusions; they believe they are absolutely true and this is why they are still stuck in those beliefs. How can a spiritual teacher help people rise higher? Only by challenging people’s illusions so they gradually purify their minds of the illusions and begin to see the truth of Christ. My point being that the role of the Living Christ and the true purpose of genuine messages from above is to CHALLENGE PEOPLE’S BELIEFS.

I stated this clearly 2,000 years ago, when I said:

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. (Matthew 10:34)

I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? (Luke 12:49)

For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (Matthew 10:35)

The deeper meaning is that the greatest threat to people’s spiritual growth is the unwillingness to move, the unwillingness to transcend one’s current beliefs. Thus, in order to get people moving, the Living Christ must challenge people’s beliefs in such a provocative way that they simply cannot ignore it, cannot remain indifferent or cannot remain convinced that they know everything. In fact, it is better that people reject our truth than remain indifferent:

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (Revelation, Chapter 3)

Take note that there is a subtle truth here which many spiritual seekers have not understood. It is a fact that even a genuine spiritual teaching given by the ascended masters can be used by the ego to trap people at a certain level of consciousness, where people feel they have it all figured out and thus become inflexible and unwilling to move higher. Therefore, it can sometimes be necessary for the Living Christ to challenge viewpoints that are technically correct but that people’s egos have used to imprison them on a certain level of the path.

We of the ascended masters recognize fully that as soon as a teaching is expressed in words, it enters the realm of duality where it becomes subject to interpretation. People simply project their own state of consciousness upon the teaching and interpret it to mean what their egos want to hear. Thus, we have no illusions whatsoever about bringing forth an ultimate teaching that is the infallible word of God, as the fundamentalists claim about the Bible. In fact, we often find it necessary to bring forth teachings that deliberately challenge beliefs that imprison large groups of people. We sometimes even have to bring forth a new teaching that challenges the mindset of people who have used a previous teaching to get themselves stuck.

My point here is that wise students will recognize that what holds them back on the path is the erroneous beliefs that they believe to be true. Thus, wise students will deliberately seek out teachers or teachings that challenge their existing beliefs, attitude to life and approach to the spiritual path. In contrast, the yet immature students will look for teachings that affirm what they already believe, thus “confirming” that they are on the right track—which is exactly what the ego wants them to believe.

The inevitable consequence is that immature students are stuck in either black-and-white or gray thinking. Those who are stuck in gray thinking tend to believe that virtually any teaching is as good as any other teaching, so they might as well select the most pleasant one. Many of the students who have matured above black-and-white thinking have become enticed by an incorrect view of love that is floating around in the New Age and even the progressive Christian community. The view says that love is tolerant of everything and never challenges anything. Thus, any teaching which is direct and challenging cannot be from the highest source.

The real consciousness behind both black-and-white and gray thinking is a tendency to believe that you know how the ascended masters should express themselves. This is only a short step away from the consciousness of the fallen angels who are firmly convinced they know better than God how the universe works and how humankind should be saved.

This is a very dangerous place for a spiritual seeker to be. The reason being that even though you have risen above black-and-white thinking, you are still not teachable for a true spiritual teacher. No true teacher will compromise truth in order to tell you what you want to hear. As I explain in the ego discourses, what caused people to get stuck in the duality consciousness was that they lost contact with their spiritual teachers. The key to overcoming the duality consciousness is that you must establish a direct, personal contact with the Spirit of Truth, the Christ consciousness.

All outer teachings given by the ascended masters are given for the purpose of providing a bridge. If the students make the best possible use of the teaching, they can walk across the bridge and attain the Christ consciousness. In other words, the true purpose of a spiritual teacher is NOT to impart outer knowledge but to impart the teacher’s consciousness to the student.

Yet if students refuse to use the teaching or if they allow their egos to misuse the teaching, they will not reestablish the direct, inner connection to the ascended teachers. Thus, their egos can even use an otherwise genuine teaching to keep the students separated from the teachers while being convinced that they are so advanced that they are guaranteed to be saved. This is self-righteousness, and I denounced it forcefully in the scribes and Pharisees.

In short, if you are a smart spiritual seeker, you will look for a teaching which challenges you to see what you cannot see on your own. If you are following a teaching which does not challenge you, it is time to look for another one that will challenge you. If you are not willing to let a spiritual teaching challenge you, you simply have not become fully teachable. I realize some people are not yet ready to let go of their most cherished illusions. Yet a word to the wise should be sufficient.

Walking a path versus spontaneous awakening

TOPICS: Any teaching for a certain level of consciousness – some teachers teach based on their personal experience – insights may not be enough to awaken people – creating a gap that cannot be breached – no spontaneous breakthrough; all have followed a path – what keeps you from enlightenment are energies and beliefs – they must be cleared gradually – then a breakthrough can happen – being in the now is only possible when mind is cleared – you did not come to earth to sit in a cave but to co-create the kingdom of God –

Question: Some spiritual teachers, especially among those who talk about non-duality, seem to ignore or even talk down the need to walk a path. They base this on having awakened spontaneously and some say this is the only way and that there is nothing we can do to awaken. Some say all we need to do is to live in the now. What is your thought on that, since you so often talk about a path?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

My opening comment is that no spiritual teaching can be for everyone. Any spiritual teaching must of necessity be adapted to a certain level of consciousness. Given the large range in the levels of consciousness found on this planet, it simply is not possible to give a teaching that is suited for all people. When a spiritual teacher is working with the ascended masters, the person can often bring forth a teaching that is beyond his or her own experience. Yet when a teacher is standing on his or her own, the teaching will almost invariably be based on the teacher’s personal experience.

There is nothing wrong with that, but it must be recognized that such a teaching will work for people who are close to the same level of consciousness as that of the teacher and not for others. Let me give an example. A teacher might have had a spiritual breakthrough that spontaneously propelled him into a higher state of consciousness. He thus teaches based on this experience and basically ignores the need to follow a gradual, systematic path. He is trying to take the students through an experience similar to his own, and he is doing so by sharing the insights he has received after his breakthrough.

The underlying assumption is that if people receive the right insights, they will have a spontaneous awakening, just as he experienced. This can indeed happen, but only for people who are close to the level of consciousness that the teacher had before his awakening. Yet the vast majority of the people on this planet are not at that level, and thus there is no possibility that any amount of insights will “spontaneously” awaken them.

Various spiritual teachers have had a spontaneous breakthrough and have sought to pass it on to others. Some of these teachers, such as Krishnamurti, have even gone so far as to deny the need for a spiritual path and spiritual teachers (in embodiment or ascended). Yet for people who are not close to the teacher’s level of consciousness, the effect is somewhat like holding up a piece of candy in front of a child while you are driving away.

Most people will have to follow a systematic, gradual path before they rise to the level of consciousness, where a spiritual breakthrough is possible. And this will require diligent work, including the use of spiritual techniques, such as Mother Mary’s rosaries. If such people believe that all they need is an insight that gives them some mysterious breakthrough, they can slow down their progress considerably. Imagine that you are walking in a jungle and you are lost. Suddenly, you hear a helicopter overhead, and a person yells down to you, “Come up here and you can see the way out of the jungle!” Yet if the person does not throw down a ladder that you can climb step by step, how will you ever make it to his level?

My point being that many of the people who have had so-called spontaneous breakthroughs did follow a systematic path in past lives. They may not remember it now, but at some point the work was done. Thus, I recommend that people do not abandon their spiritual tools, such as the invocations and decrees.

Now, there is a delicate discernment to make here. In one sense, it is correct that there is nothing you can DO to reach enlightenment. Your final breakthrough must and will happen only spontaneously, as an act of grace from above. You cannot force this, no matter what you do. That is why I so often say the path is not an outer, mechanical path and that there is no automatic or guaranteed salvation.

One could say that there is nothing you can DO to reach enlightenment, because what keeps you away from enlightenment is the consciousness of having to DO things instead of just BEING. However, what keeps you from being is a combination of false beliefs and misqualified energies stored in your four lower bodies. If you were stripped of all false beliefs in an instant, you would go insane, because you would not know who you are. That is why the only way to growth is to follow a gradual path of transforming the misqualified energies and seeing through the imperfect beliefs.

As you clear your mind from energies and beliefs, you will lessen the magnetic pull, that sucks you into doing and thinking. And this will bring you closer to what Zen calls “beginners mind” and which I called becoming as little children. It is not difficult to see that most people are trapped in these unending spirals of acting and reacting. This collective consciousness forms something akin to a giant magnet. Imagine that you are walking by a large magnet with iron pieces in your pockets. The magnet will pull on the iron pieces and you will be pulled with them. Yet if you gradually throw out the iron pieces, the magnetic pull will lessen until you can walk by the magnet and it has nothing in you.

So we might say that enlightenment is the natural state of the mind. What has happened is that the mind has been trapped in a pattern of doing and thinking, that constantly keeps it occupied in the pursuit of a goal that it does not have right now. So if enlightenment becomes another goal that you seek to attain by doing and thinking, then yes, such an effort will take you away from enlightenment. Nevertheless, what is pulling the mind into doing and thinking are beliefs and energies. And if you clear them, you will gradually come closer to the natural state. And when the mind is sufficiently free from obstructions, it will naturally and effortlessly return to its natural state.

And thus you have what might seem like a spontaneous awakening, and in one sense it is. But if you had not followed the path of clearing the mind, would you ever have had that awakening?

Some teachers say that most westerners think too much about the past and the future. The ego uses the past and the future to manipulate people but the ego cannot operate in the now. Thus, they recommend that people focus more on the now, which is not a wrong approach given that so many people do tend to focus too much on the past and the future. That is indeed why I said:

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:34)

I agree that the ego finds it very difficult to operate in the now, and if you are truly awake in the eternal now, the ego has no influence over you. However, saying that people should focus on the now is only a useful approach for people who have reached a certain level of consciousness. It takes a high level of spiritual maturity to actually BE in the now, and until one reaches that level, one will have no ability to simply BE.

So when such a person is told to be in the now, he or she cannot actually experience being in the now. Instead, the person forms a mental concept of what it means to be in the now—based on the teacher’s directions rather than personal experience. And the ego is quite capable of manipulating any and all mental concepts human beings create. This can easily lead some people to take an unbalanced approach to being in the now. The concept of being in the now is not new, since it was first taught by the Buddha. Over the centuries many people have taken an unbalanced approach, causing them to go toward one of two extremes:

  • Some people reason that being in the now means they can ignore their past. By spontaneously awakening, you will overcome your past without having to deal with your karma or psychological wounds. Thus, they start seeking a miraculous insight that will do all the work for them. Again, a breakthrough can happen if you have already overcome your karma and wounds in past lives, but for the vast majority of people this is not the case. Thus, most people will slow down their progress by ignoring their past. They would make much faster progress by using all available means to resolve their psychology, overcome dualistic beliefs and purify all misqualified energy (karma) from past lives.
  • Some people reason that they can stop thinking about the future, including planning their lives. Some even go so far as thinking God will miraculously take care of everything, and this has caused some otherwise sincere spiritual seekers to actually commit suicide through neglect. This is what the devil used when I was tempted after my stay in the wilderness:

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. (Matthew, Chapter 4)

My point is to always take a balanced approach to everything in life—being aware that the ego will always seek to polarize you toward one extreme or the other.

A final point is that some teachers give teachings on the mind that can easily be interpreted to mean that the mind is the enemy of your spiritual growth. It is indeed true that an overactive mind, especially a well-developed intellect, can be a hindrance to spiritual growth—which is a more intuitive than intellectual process. However, believing that your own mind is an enemy is not a constructive approach since it only makes you even more of a house divided against itself.

The correct view is that the mind is like a house with servants. It only becomes an enemy when the master refuses to take command in his own house. That master is you, specifically the Conscious You, which is meant to have dominion over your lower being by taking up the responsibility to be the Christ. When you find the middle way of the Christ, you will not let your mind control you and neither will you seek to control the mind to the point of extinguishing its creative potential. Many spiritual people have indeed used discipline to so control the mind that they have forgotten that they did not come to earth to sit in a cave and meditate on God. You came here to be a co-creator and bring God’s kingdom to this planet.

Your mind has the potential to become an extension of your I AM Presence, which truly makes your mind an extension of the mind of God. Everything is created out of God’s consciousness, meaning that everything is created out of the mind of God. Thus, when your mind takes up its rightful role as an individualization of the mind of God – rather than as a mind separated from its source – your mind will become a vehicle for you doing what you came here to do, namely to have dominion over the earth.

Let me make it clear that I am not hereby saying that people should not read such teachings. I am simply saying that I expect visitors to this website to use the insights they have received here when they study any kind of spiritual teaching. And I expect people to do their utmost to heed my teachings on the need for balance. If you have not yet realized that I often talk about balance, then I recommend you read the website again and take note of how often I describe balance as the most important prerequisite for true spiritual growth. I especially recommend my two ego discourses on black-and-white and gray thinking.

That being said, there is no question that some teachers have given many valuable insights about the ego and the duality consciousness. People at all levels can benefit from these insights, but you need to be realistic and not abandon a systematic approach to spiritual growth in favor of chasing a miraculous insight that will suddenly turn you into an enlightened being. It is far better to keep working methodically and let the spontaneous awakening happen—spontaneously. Seeking to take heaven by force has never brought anyone out of reach of the ego.

Having an earthly guru versus seeking a direct relationship with the ascended masters

TOPICS: A direct inner relationship with an ascended master – a true earthly teacher will not stand between you and the ascended masters – spiritual self-sufficiency – recognizing the next teacher – your ego wants you to follow a teacher forever – be loyal to your inner growth – don’t give away your responsibility – the lie that you need no teacher – a true teacher gives you an outside perspective on your psychology –

Question: I am a Christian and I follow a true living spiritual Master of the Sound and Light of the Word. I read your website for the last two years and a half and I am still reading it. Since I do research about your teaching I used many, many teachings you gave in my research. And I think I am inspired by you to find sometime new ideas. My question: Can I become your direct disciple? This means I will have two Masters: One living, and one ascended. Is it possible? There will be any conflict?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Consider my saying:

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew, 6:24)

There is no room for compromise in that statement. You truly cannot serve two masters, you cannot be equally loyal to someone on earth or someone in the spiritual realm. So the question becomes whether you actually have two masters?

If you want to be my direct disciple – or the disciple of another ascended master – you must develop a direct, inner, personal relationship with me. Everything I give on my website is designed to help you reach that goal. Anyone has the potential to reach that goal, although the more spiritually inclined people are closer to attaining it than others.

Having a direct relationship means that your relationship with me does not depend on or go through anything or anyone outside yourself, including an outer teacher or teaching—and including this website. However, this does not mean that you do not need or cannot have an outer teacher or teaching. A true teacher knows that he or she is only a temporary bridge between the student and the ascended masters. Thus, such a teacher will never seek to hold back the student from developing the direct, inner relationship with us. The true teacher will find joy in becoming obsolete, in helping the student reach a point where the student has inner communion.

If you have a true outer teacher, that person will not work against the goal of your direct inner connection to the ascended masters, and consequently you do not have two masters. Your outer teacher and your inner teacher are one in purpose—namely your growth toward spiritual self-sufficiency. Yet if the outer teacher or teaching starts to come between you and your inner connection with me, then you need to make some hard decisions.

I cannot give you a general, fool-proof rule for how to find a true teacher or when to move on from an outer teacher to an inner teacher, for the path is an individual endeavor. However, let me give you a few thoughts to ponder.

The timeless mottos is, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” If you have a teacher or teaching now, it is because that is what you were ready for when you found it. Yet if you grow with maximum speed, you might be ready for another teacher at some time—and at some time you should be ready for direct inner communion. When that time arrives, the teacher – inner or outer – WILL appear, but the question is whether you can recognize him/her. If you are not open to moving on and looking for the next teacher, you might ignore the opportunity.

It is a fact that many of our students become attached to a particular organization, teaching or guru. There comes a point on the path when you must dare to strive for inner communion and set this before anything else. If you do not, the outer teaching becomes a trap that will hold you back. Thus, what was given as a tool for your liberation, you have now turned into a prison for your lifestream.

If you are a spiritually inclined person, your ego knows that it cannot stop you from looking for a teacher. So it will try to make you accept a false teacher and then make you believe you have to follow him/her forever. There are indeed many false teachers in the world. One way to recognize false teachers is that they seek to make their followers codependent upon the teacher and will not allow them to have direct, inner communion. They do this by setting themselves up as being so far above everyone else that they are the only ones who can commune with the spiritual realm. They say you are not able to commune directly with the ascended masters and thus you should only listen to the outer teacher.

Be especially aware that your first and foremost loyalty must be to your own growth. The path is ALWAYS an inner path. Regardless of what you do on the outer, your personal progress takes place inside yourself. An outer teacher can help you attain progress, but NO outer teacher can do the work for you. Be very suspicious of teachers who claim they can “save” you if only you give them your unconditional loyalty. No true teacher will make you swear allegiance to him/her above your allegiance to your inner growth and to your inner teachers. If a teacher wants you to pledge that you will follow him/her forever and that you give your life or soul to him/her, you need to be careful.

There is a legitimate method of helping a student overcome the ego by pledging unconditional obedience to the guru. By obeying a true guru, you can overcome the tendency to blindly obey your ego—thus you can free yourself from having the ego as your guru. Yet this is not the same as giving your life or soul to the guru, for it is not yours to give. In the end, God has given you full responsibility for your path and salvation. If someone encourages you to give away that responsibility, they are not working for God’s purpose.

As I try to point out throughout this website, the ego creates two opposites and seeks to trap you in either one. The opposite extreme to the viewpoint that you should follow an outer teacher forever is that you don’t need an outer teacher but can and should do everything on your own. It is folly – and a subtle form of pride – to think you can walk the spiritual path without a teacher. Yet the teacher can take many disguises and may appear in the form of your friends or family who can give you a balanced perspective on yourself. In many cases the teacher appears for a brief moment to give you an instruction you need in order to move on. Be alert and ALWAYS listen for the teacher in disguise. As El Morya says, “If the guru be an ant, heed him!”

Some students think they already have inner communion and others seek to take heaven by force. Such people often establish a connection to the false masters while being completely convinced that they are communing with the real ascended masters. Such people are often unreachable by anyone Above or below, and thus they would have been much better off had they continued to rely on an outer teacher. Such people also have two masters in the sense that they have a genuine desire to serve God but are seeking to fulfill it in an inappropriate manner.

Even if you find a true outer teacher, your ego will try to make you believe you have to follow him/her forever and not strive for inner communion. It is not constructive that some people have been in a teaching sponsored by the ascended masters for decades, and they still do not dare to even strive for inner communion. The willingness to TRY is essential for your continued progress on the path.

Some people have in past lives attained a direct inner communion with the spiritual realm and they can easily reestablish it in this lifetime. Yet for those who have not done so, it can be difficult to attain this communion without first following a teacher or teaching that they can see or hear with the outer mind and senses. That is why we give outer teachings and train teachers or messengers to represent us. Many spiritual seekers need an outer teacher for a time before they can establish inner communion. As long as an outer teacher does not come between you and your inner communion, then you do not have two masters—even if you continue to learn from and support an outer teacher.

Even after you start having inner communion, you can still benefit from having a genuine outer teacher. The teacher can help you see yourself from the outside, the teacher can serve as a mirror and help you see what you cannot see on your own. As long as you have not fully overcome the ego, you will have blind spots, for the ego cannot see itself from an outside perspective. Thus, you need a teacher in some form to give you an objective point of reference. However, this can also be attained in a community of equals.

As you can see, I cannot give you a general statement of when you need to go beyond an outer teacher or teaching and establish direct inner communion. Nor can I give you a clear-cut rule for when or if you need to leave behind an outer teacher or teaching. What I can say is that if you never close your mind to further growth and continually strive for more accurate inner communion, you will recognize the next teacher when he/she appears.

The willingness to TRY something new, to go beyond present boundaries, is the essence of walking the spiritual path. Attachment to anything in this world – or even attachment to a connection to a non-material being – is the surest way to stop your progress. As always, the only general rule that can be given is that a balanced approach will give you maximum progress without taking you into any of the extremes that so easily become a blind alley.

Co-dependency upon a spiritual teacher

TOPICS: Any tool given can be misused by the ego – true gurus seek to help you avoid co-dependency – using the outer guru as a tool for contacting the inner guru –

Question: I came across a channeling where the channeled entity says that students should not enter into a guru/chela relationship because of the chela’s dependency on the guru. What is your comment on that?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Concerning the idea that people should not enter into a guru/chela relationship, there is some validity to the idea that this can cause certain students to become co-dependent upon the guru. In the physical octave, everything is a two-edged sword. The Bible is given to people as a means to their spiritual progress. Yet millions of people cling to a specific interpretation of the Bible and therefore abort or slow down their growth. It is an inescapable fact of life that the tools, which the ascended masters give as a means to people’s liberation, have the potential to become a blind alley that cause people to become stuck at a certain level instead of taking the next step on the path.

Many students develop dependency upon a guru. This is never productive. However, if the student has a true guru, the guru will always seek to help the student overcome this dependency. Therefore, I disagree with the general statement that one should never enter into a guru/chela relationship. The fact that a tool can be misused does not mean that one should abandon the tool.

Imagine that a helicopter has come to rescue you. The helicopter has landed on the roof of a nearby building. However, to get to the roof, you have to climb the stairs. While it is true that you should not become co-dependent upon the stairs, it is equally true that if you do not climb the stairs, you cannot make it to the roof. The guru/chela relationship is indeed a viable way to attain swift spiritual growth, and for many people it will be extremely difficult to attain that growth without an inner or an outer guru.

The key to overcoming the problem of dependency is to realize that the outer guru is simply a tool for helping you attain conscious contact with the inner guru, namely your Christ self.

Gratitude helps you realize that matter does not have power over spirit

TOPICS: Create a simple system to remind yourself to be grateful – if you are not grateful, you have a sense of lack – you send the message into the cosmic mirror that you want more lack – gratitude send message that you want to have enough – path is about overcoming illusion that matter has power over spirit – taking command over your emotions – emotions should be under command of thoughts, which are under command of identity –

Question: Can you remind us of why it is important to feel gratitude?

Answer from ascended master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels:

Consider yourself so reminded, my beloved!

There is no other way than you, individually, making a conscious decision that you will remind yourself of the power of gratitude. In order to do this, you will have to decide what works for you individually in reminding yourself of this. Will you create some kind of device that helps you remember? Will you decide to say a simple affirmation about gratitude every day? Will you meditate on a passage from a dictation or the Gratitude Rosary? Or will you give that Gratitude Rosary on a regular basis?

It is, of course, important to remind yourself of the power of gratitude because, as you know, the universe is a mirror and the universe is designed to give you any experience you desire. So, if you are not grateful, it can only mean that you have a sense of lack, that you have a sense that you do not have enough—and therefore you have no reason to be grateful.

And thus, what is the subconscious message you are sending to the cosmic mirror? It is that “I want to experience lack, I want to experience that I do not have enough, so that I have a reason to feel ungrateful because I want to feel ungrateful. So give me an outer reason to feel ungrateful.” And the universe says: “Well my Beloved, if that is really what you want, then my contract states that I am obliged to give you what you say you want.”

And thus, of course, when you change your feelings, when you decide to take command over your feelings, your feeling world, and allow yourself to feel gratitude, well then, what is the message you are NOW sending into the mirror? It is the message that you feel you have enough. Or that at least you are grateful for whatever you have and thus you are actually sending the message that “I want to experience what it is like to be grateful and to have more and more.”

And thus the universe says: “Oh my Beloved, finally you are allowing me to live up to my highest potential of giving you the abundant life, so surely I will give you more than what you have. And as you feel even more grateful, for what you now have, I can give you even more—as I can indeed multiply the talents that you have multiplied, my Beloved.”

So you see, life is a matter of realizing that the universe is a mirror and that the spiritual path is about you overcoming the illusion that the matter world has power over you—the spiritual being.  For what is it that people are believing when they allow themselves to believe that they do not have enough in the material world?  Well, is it not that their material circumstances have power over their emotions, and thus they are saying: “Well I cannot feel grateful when I do not have this or that material condition fulfilled.”  Thereby saying that the matter world, the external world has power over the internal world of your psyche, your feeling body, your emotional body.

Yet the spiritual path is about overcoming this illusion, where you realize that your emotions should be under the conscious control of your mental body, which should be under the conscious control of your identity body, so that you realize who you are a spiritual being. And therefore, you allow that identity to command your mental body, to command your thoughts, so that you realize that you can feel anything you want to feel—regardless of the physical conditions you are facing.

And therefore, you have the power – if you have the will – to take command over your feeling world and feel grateful regardless of what you have or do not have in the material world—which is meant to be the servant of the spiritual world, the outpicturing of the spiritual world so that it can be as Above so below. And so that the abundant life can be manifest on earth and in your personal life, my Beloved.

Why surrender is such an essential part of the spiritual path

TOPICS: Do not seek to force visualization – you cannot DO yourself back to oneness – you must surrender old sense of self – surrender is spontaneous – seek inner knowing – you do not lose by surrendering – surrender is not through the outer mind – division leads to frustration – look at yourself instead of condition – giving up your old self-image – look for what you have not seen – using an old teaching to reinforce your mental box – rejecting a new teaching to hold on to the ego – when you defend something, you have an attachment – surrender the concept of a path –

Question: I find that whenever I try to visualize, all I get is blackness. Is there something that myself or other people with the same problem should do?

Answer from ascended master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels:

If you have difficulty visualizing, stop trying to visualize. Do not have the image, the mental image, that you are supposed to visualize anything in particular. Allow the visualization to come on its own—and if nothing comes, then be content with that. Be non-attached, simply focus on giving a rosary, or reading a book, internalizing a teaching and then let the visualization come spontaneously, if it comes at all. You see, the more you strain, the more you push it away.

And this gives me an opportunity to comment on a question some of you have had, about how you surrender. You have been so programmed by the false teachers and the consciousness of duality that you believe you have to DO something to earn your salvation. But, in reality the reason why you have separated yourself from oneness is that you started doing something with the dualistic mind, thereby doing yourself away from oneness.

So you cannot DO yourself back to oneness. I am not thereby saying that you do not need to do anything, because you do need to study teachings to seek to internalize them, to practice rosaries or other appropriate techniques to further your spiritual growth. Because, as we have said, there are certain mechanical aspects of spiritual growth, such as the transformation of energy. Nevertheless, the element that is the essence of spiritual growth is to overcome your old limiting beliefs and rise to a higher understanding and awareness.

And that transition cannot be forced, cannot be done with the dualistic mind, for when you seek to do things on the spiritual path with the consciousness of duality, then you are stepping onto the false path, the outer path of thinking that by doing these outer things, God has to let you into heaven.

So the real essence of the path is to let go of limitations, let go of unreality, and this is something that you cannot force with the outer mind. You cannot force it physically, you cannot force it emotionally, you cannot force it mentally. And the more you seek to force it with your outer conscious mind, with your feelings or with your thoughts, the more you will cause yourself to hold on to the things you are trying to surrender. Surrender can only happen spontaneously.

You can set the groundwork for surrender by studying a teaching and coming to a greater and greater understanding of why you need to give something up, so that you thereby set the stage for the spontaneous surrender to occur. But you cannot force it, and if you get into the mode of trying to force it, you will make it impossible for you to surrender. And I can assure you that I see many people on the spiritual path who have tried for decades, sometimes even for lifetimes, to surrender a particular aspect of their psychology, a particular dualistic illusion. Yet, because they keep trying to force it, it cannot happen.

My beloved, the image that I gave this messenger yesterday, is this. Consider that you are holding an object in your hand and someone tells you to drop it, to let it go. Well, you might sit there with your mind and decide, “Should I let it go, or should I hold on to it? Do I want to get rid of it, or do I want to keep it?” And so, your mind can go back and forth and the more you think about this – the more intense you are in your thoughts – the more you will subconsciously tighten your grip and hold on. Yet imagine now that suddenly your nervous system signaled to your brain that the object that you are holding is glowing hot. What would you do, my beloved—you would spontaneously and instantly open your hand and drop the object, would you not?

So you see, surrender can only happen spontaneously. There is no way to force it, and if you try to force it, you push it away from you. And so, what you can do is become aware of this, so that you can neutralize the mind’s tendency to hold on to things. You can also cultivate what in traditional religion has been called faith, but which is more because it is an inner knowing. And the inner knowing you can attain is that by using the tools and tuning into your Christhood, you will begin to realize that there is a part of your being that is beyond the ego and the human conditions, beyond your outer situation.

And thereby, you will begin to know that you cannot lose anything by giving something up in the material world, for you will not be plunged into a black hole of having no identity. Instead, you will find a higher identity in God. And this understanding and realization and internalization then brings you to the point, where you can willingly and gladly give everything to God, and allow your Christ Self to give back to you what is real. In other words, you can give up everything without focusing on a specific belief, or habit, or practice.

You can simply give yourself into the hands of God and do what Jesus did, when he said, “Father, if it be thy will, let this cup pass from me. Nevertheless, not my will but thine be done.” And when you trust that that higher will is the will of your own higher Being, the ultimate reality of your being, you will not fear letting go, you will not fear losing something. And thus, it will be easier for you to outsmart the ego and its attempts to create an attachment, whereby you somehow fear or resist that state of surrender that is your ultimate freedom from the ego.

Take note of what I am saying in my example. Once you actually experience that an object is hot, you have no doubt about letting it go and the surrender is spontaneous. This is obviously a sensory experience, yet you can have a similar experience beyond the senses, namely what people call an intuitive or “Aha” experience. Once you have this experience and see why a certain condition is preventing you from getting where you want to go, the surrender will be spontaneous.

What confuses many spiritual seekers is that they are still approaching the path with the outer mind, with the mind that is vulnerable to duality. So they read a spiritual teaching, and the teaching says to stop doing something, be it eating meat or engaging in anger. So they get the idea that they need to let go of – surrender – this condition, yet the idea is still in the outer mind.

And so they are trying to give up – to surrender – the idea with one part of the outer mind, but another part of the outer mind – often below the level of conscious awareness – is holding on to the condition. So they have a division in their beings and are being pulled in opposite directions. They now see that they are not giving up the condition, and this creates a frustration in the outer mind so they try even harder. But this only increases the tension, so the other part of the mind will hold on to the condition even more tightly. The tension can be maintained for a long time or it can build to such a crescendo that the person experiences a crisis and finally lets go.

The better way is to take your focus away from the outer condition and follow Jesus’ admonition to look first for the beam – the division – in your own eye—meaning, obviously, your own psyche. You see, my beloved, the subtle temptation of the outer path, the false path, is that you can gain entry into heaven by doing – or by giving up – things in this world. And this is what causes people to focus attention on something – anything – outside themselves.

For example, some people get very focused on pointing out the faults of others or world conditions—which causes them to go on a crusade instead of taking up their cross and following Jesus. Others get very focused on overcoming certain conditions in themselves, but they still do this in an outer way. You see, you can give up all of the outer behavior and all of the imperfect emotions or thoughts specified by a spiritual teaching and yet you still have not actually discovered the beam in your own eye.

The beam in your own eye is your self-image, the image of yourself as a mortal, human, separate being. This image is unique for each one, even though there are certain similarities. Yet each person has a unique reason for holding on to his or her image of the separate self. That is why each person must come to a unique inner experience of seeing the separate self and seeing – experiencing in an Aha experience – how the separate self is unreal and is preventing your real self – the Conscious You – from attaining oneness with your higher being.

You can then experience the pure awareness that the Conscious You is, and this makes it obvious that you are more than the outer personality trait, meaning you will not die by surrendering it. Once you have that total – undivided – experience, you will spontaneously let go of the separate self, but as long as you are focused on giving up only part of the separate self, well then all other parts of that self will resist your surrender. Do you see that as long as you are focusing on ANY outer condition, surrender will be very difficult?

You can have an Aha experience that shows you that a particular condition is harmful, and thus you surrender it. Thus, for some, the path is a continual process of surrendering small things until they finally can see the big thing. Yet for those who have trouble surrendering, I suggest taking your focus off the outer conditions and seeking to look squarely for the separate self that is seeking to hide itself by keeping you focused on the outer conditions. As Albert Einstein said, “If you keep doing the same thing and expect different results, you are insane.” Thus, if you have trouble attaining a particular goal on the path, do something different, meaning look for what you have not so far seen.

This is why progressive revelation is so essential. People will quickly become familiar with a particular teaching and their egos will use it to create a mental box. People then think that as long as they stay in that box, they are guaranteed to be saved. So once that happens, we have to attempt to give a different teaching that challenges people’s mental boxes and their sense of comfortability. Some respond and grow, while other cling to the box, often by attacking the new teaching by using clever arguments based on the old teaching. The argument is always the same: Because the new teaching says something that isn’t in the old teaching, it cannot be true, for God would never say that. Yet do you see, my beloved, that the new teaching MUST say something beyond the old teaching if it is to have any possibility of shaking you out of your mental box?

My beloved, attachment to anything, even a spiritual teaching, is the enemy of growth, for growth comes only through surrendering ALL attachments to anything on earth. Thus, if you find yourself defending your present beliefs, you have stepped off the true path, for you are no longer looking for the Living Teacher in disguise. Thus, whenever you are defending something, consider that you have of a division in the psyche. For if you were in oneness, you would have no need to defend anything. In total surrender there can be no division, so if there is division, there is something you have not surrendered. And the reason you have not surrendered is that there is something you have not seen, and that something is the separate self itself—not the condition that takes your attention into outer things.

My beloved, we always talk about a path. Yet as Jesus has said before, even the concept of a path can be misused by the ego. For it implies that you can go on forever. Yet there are stages on the path, and there does indeed come a point where you are ready to see and surrender the separate self. And if you keep thinking that you have to keep taking steps on the path, then you will never actually come to that Aha experience that empowers you to see – and then spontaneously surrender – the separate self.

In fact, if you could see and surrender that separate self right now, you could become a Christed being instantly. So the question is how many steps you have to take before you come to that realization, and that will in large part depend on your understanding of surrender and your willingness to focus on the separate self rather than the many separate diversions it has created in order to hide itself from you.

The path is a state of constant self-observation

TOPICS: Self-observation – on the middle way or going into extremes – at higher levels of the path, the tests become more subtle – when you do not resist looking at anything – cannot go beyond certain point without helping others – when focusing without becomes a trap – always seek to transcend –

Question: As Mother Mary was saying, and as Buddha has said in the past, that the path to our Christhood is one of working on self-change and working on changing ourselves, transforming ourselves, can you please discuss on the fine balance the self-centered path and the way of becoming the Christ, and focusing on yourself because you want to become more of your God potential and focusing on yourself in the way that sometimes it can easily morph into a sort of negative self-centeredness.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

An excellent question, which demonstrates the impossibility of giving a spiritual teaching that cannot be misinterpreted by the dualistic state of consciousness. And that is why, again and again, we stress the middle way, we stress balance, we stress going beyond duality.

Truly, the key to resolving this is to realize that the path is a state of constant self-observation, where you are constantly observing yourself and watching whether you are staying on the middle way or whether you have gone into one of the dualistic extremes.

And certainly, this is not something that you can give a hard and fast rule and say, “This is what you should always be looking for.” For one of the things you must understand as mature spiritual seekers is that the path is subtle—and that the further you go along the path, the more subtle it becomes.

When you look at someone who is a mass murderer, you can easily see that that person is not on the spiritual path and is doing something clearly unspiritual. But as you go beyond that level of the blatant outer abuse, it becomes more difficult to discern the delicate difference between going into one of the dualistic extremes. And so, this is where, as you mature, you realize that you need to go beyond what I have called black-and-white thinking and gray thinking. You need to be constantly alert to whether you are being pulled into one extreme or another.

And this requires constant alertness, constant self-observation. But I must tell you that there can come a point, where you become non-attached to protecting your ego, protecting whatever sense you have individually that gives you a sense of being in control or feeling that you are on the right track. You can come to a point, where you are willing to look at anything in your own psychology, and you do not resist seeing the truth. Because you know, as we have said many times, that the Conscious You is more than the outer personality, than the dualistic self. And so, once you see something as dualistic, you can let it go and you will be freer than you were before.

It is indeed true that there is a stage on the spiritual path where you need to focus first of all on yourself, discovering that beam in your own eye, removing that so that you can attain some sense of inner peace and clarity. For until you have truly helped yourself, how can you possibly help others? Yet, once you have attained some sense of peace, then you face the delicate question that you come to a point on the path where you cannot progress further until you help other people or help the planet as a whole.

Even this can become a blind alley that can be used by the ego. And we have indeed seen some of our more mature disciples and students who have fallen into the trap of now focusing on saving the world, or helping other people, or spreading the teachings, or working in a certain spiritual organization, to the point where they have said, “I no longer need to look at my own psychology. For surely, I have gone beyond that need. I have realized what I need to realize on the spiritual path.”

And so, again, there is no one way to always do the right thing. There is no outer rule that can be given. The way to do the right thing is to realize that as long as you are in physical embodiment, you need to reach for a higher understanding of yourself and the spiritual path, you need to be willing to self-transcend.

So in a sense the short answer is: No matter what state of consciousness you are in right now, always look for the next level. Always seek to transcend. Observe yourself, and then follow the inner direction when you suddenly encounter an outer situation where you get the inner prompting that here is something you need to look at, here is something to let go of.

This, my beloved, is what all true messengers are doing constantly. And I can assure you that if you have an idolatrous sense that messengers are beyond being tested, or that they are above needing to learn something and overcome something in their own consciousness, then you have not fully understood what they are about. For true messengers are constantly willing to observe themselves. And when they see something, they go after it and they let go of it. And this is the same that you must adopt—that willingness to always look for whatever comes up. Sometimes it may your own consciousness, sometimes it may be something you have taken on from the mass consciousness.

But as long as you are in physical embodiment, you need to self-transcend. For it is only those who continue to self-transcend, who will eventually reach that level of self-transcendence, where they permanently transcend the material realm.

Walking the spiritual path without suffering

TOPICS: Suffering is not necessary if you let go – attachments cause suffering – why it is difficult to see what you cannot see – surrender expectations – the ego builds unrealistic expectations – suffering caused by rebelling against conditions in this world – suffering will not buy forgiveness of sin – finding the joyous path –

Question: When the masters say that suffering is not necessary, but they also say that we shouldn’t expect it to be easy—isn’t there a contradiction there?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

There can only be contradictions in the duality consciousness. And the duality consciousness can interpret any statement to be contradictory to another statement. That is what the linear mind will do and has always done.

Suffering is not necessary because suffering comes from attachment. What makes it difficult to walk the path is your attachments. So in a sense you could – if you were willing to let go of your attachments – walk the path without any suffering whatsoever.

When we say the path is not easy and that you should not expect it to be easy, it is because we are practical realists who realize – from our own experience – that it is almost impossible to let go of everything at once. And therefore, we all had to follow a gradual path. We all had to walk step by step and give up certain limitations one at a time, so as to preserve some sense of continuity.

Yet, the difficulties on the path come from your inability – or in some case unwillingness – to see what you need to see in order to let go of a particular illusion. And we know – again from our own experience – that it is difficult to see what you cannot see. This is no different for many of you than it was for myself when I was in embodiment. When you are in embodiment, you are inside your current mental box. And it is always difficult to look at your own situation from outside that box. That, incidentally, is why you need guidance from spiritual teachers, from other people and from spiritual teachings.

Yet you can literally come to a state of surrender, where even though there are difficult phases of your path, they do not cause you suffering. In other words, the physical octave, the material realm, is dense. It is not easy to walk the spiritual path in the density of the collective consciousness. Yet, when you reach a certain state of surrender, the difficulties you encounter will not cause you suffering. And the reason is that you have done what Mother Mary spoke about yesterday—you have surrendered your expectations, you have surrendered your conditions.

There are many people who find the spiritual path and they realize that in order to walk the path they have to make what they see as sacrifices. Because they have to give up some of their old lifestyle, some of the activities in which the world indulges, such as alcohol, drugs, material pursuits and many other things that take you away from the spiritual path.

And so people get enthusiastic and they are willing to give up some of these activities. But they still feel that they have made a sacrifice in doing so. And so their egos trick them into building the subtle expectation that when they have sacrificed for the path or sacrificed for God, then after that point everything should be easy. And God should simply pave the way for them so that they do not encounter any more challenges or difficulties.

This, of course, is the ego trying to trick people into building an unrealistic expectation that is guaranteed to cause disappointment, so that they become discouraged and stop walking the path. Or even get angry, as some people do, feeling that they were given empty promises by a particular organization or teacher. And therefore, their egos trick them into abandoning the path.

When you give up your conditions, you have no expectations of what the path should be like. And therefore, how can anything that occurs to you cause you suffering. For you see, suffering is caused by a psychological condition that causes you to emotionally and mentally rebel against what you are experiencing in the physical world.

You will see that many people who have encountered great physical difficulties have come to a state of surrender and peace, where they have accepted the condition and accepted that they can – no matter how difficult the outer conditions are – make the best of it and still have a joyful life. Look at some of the people who have physical handicaps, such as sitting in a wheelchair. Many of the people who experience this become depressed, but there are a few who rise above it and become joyful and are at peace with the situation, making the best of it.

So you see that suffering is not caused by the outer condition but by the inner psychological condition of rebelling against the outer physical condition. And that is why, as we have attempted to explain over these last days – both Patrick and Mary and Saint Germain – that when you are on the spiritual path, you would do well to give up your outer conditions and expectations of what the path should be like. For you should know, as spiritual people, that the physical realm is dense, that the collective consciousness is dense. And thus, you should not expect it to be easy and trouble-free to walk the path.

Yet, you certainly should not either go into the opposite extreme of thinking that in order to be spiritual, you have to suffer—and walk up a mountain barefoot because somehow that pays for your sins because God is pleased the more you suffer. So the more you suffer the more sins he will forgive.

Again, there is the Middle Way. And when you find the Middle Way, you can overcome all difficulties and maintain the joy. And when you decide to meet all difficulties with joy and you are willing to transcend, then the difficulties are not so difficult. They are simply events in the physical realm. And you move beyond them because you have a clear vision of your goal.

You know where you want to go and it is not a matter of thinking that you can only go there if there are no obstacles. You know there will be obstacles and that it is simply a matter of overcoming them, moving beyond them, rising above them, walking right through them—so that you find the joyous path that is independent of the outer conditions because your joy is full.

Who am I? – The answer is a reflection of your current state of consciousness

TOPICS: Ask your self who you are as long as you are in embodiment – don’t think you know everything and no longer need to self-transcend – the answer you can receive right now is a reflection of your state of consciousness – remain humble – some gurus have based  their identity on ego’s interpretation of a genuine but limited answer – cannot be fully enlightened while in embodiment –

Question: We have many earthly goals and somewhere on the website you said that in order to attain Christ consciousness we must be willing to let our goals die. I have met a man who in the centeredness of his heart was asking himself, “Who am I?” and after some time he discovered his true identity in God. Should we before any earthly things do something like this, asking ourselves “Who am I”?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

It is indeed a good idea to ask yourself who you are. Only you need to continue to do so while you are in physical embodiment. For who are you really?

Well, you are who you think you are and as long as you are in the duality consciousness, you have something you can transcend and become more. So even though it is good to ask yourself, “Who am I?” and even though you can receive an answer of who you are in God, do not fall into the trap of thinking you have received a final answer and now you no longer need to ask.

This is what has happened, indeed, to many people, who have had some spiritual attainment, who have received some vision or direction. Yet, they have then used it to think that now they knew everything they needed to know or they had climbed as high as they needed to climb. And thus, without any evil intentions, they have essentially become false teachers, deluding themselves and misleading others into thinking that they have attained some final state of enlightenment or attainment.

Thus, it is good to ask, but it is also good to continue to ask, for I must tell you that the answer you can receive right now is a reflection of your current state of consciousness, in the sense that the answer you can receive is limited by the openness of your mind and heart—the openness to receive the answer. And so as you receive an answer that is suitable for your current state of consciousness, if you fully internalize that answer, you can raise your consciousness. And then you are ready to receive an even higher answer.

That is why I will impress upon you that it is good to ask, “Who am I?” but you need to continue to ask it—and be realistic and realize that you cannot receive the full answer as long as you are in physical embodiment. This is the folly of some who have climbed the spiritual path to a certain level, who have done many outer things and now they think they know all—and they know who they are and so they have not anymore the humbleness of heart to continue to ask the question with the open mind of a little child, being willing to receive whatever answer comes to them.

They have then allowed their egos to take a previous answer – that was a valid answer for the level of consciousness they had when they received it – but which their egos have now turned into a closed mental box—that in some cases they have used to set themselves up compared to others or gather followers who now revere them as some kind of guru who has attained some final state.

My beloved, it is possible to attain some state of enlightenment while you are in embodiment. But do not be fooled into thinking that there has ever been a person who has walked the earth in a physical body while having attained the highest possible state of consciousness.

This is what I have commented on before—that there is no one who is God incarnate on earth in the fullest sense of that word. And therefore no one has the full absolute authority over anyone else.

Some creative people insist that taking drugs helped their spiritual growth

TOPICS: Learn from near-death experiences – risk versus reward – drug culture inspired by dark forces – drugs suspend your free will – your energy field is unprotected when you are “high” – draining your vital energies – false visions from dark forces – the contrast between peak experiences and daily awareness – how addiction starts – shattering your sense of identity – cannot fight force with force – a true guru will NEVER recommend drugs – outer will and inner will – brain chemistry can simulate spiritual experiences – drugs can destroy the circuitry of the brain – the ego lie that you can control drug use – God or mammon –

Question: Dear Jesus, You have many times in your discourses warned against the use of drugs and I agree many drugs are harmful. But what of hallucinogens such as psylocybin and LSD? There are many creative people such as Alex Grey, Alan Watts, Aldous Huxley, Ram Dass, etc. etc who have found these substances useful, and indeed the esoteric tradition of Mahayana Buddhism allows for the use of ‘substances’ in certain cases.

For an individual mired in the Kali Yuga, they can provide essential insights needed to assist the seeker on his/her way to Christ consciousness, I believe.
In my own case, I truly believe that had it not been for these substances, I would still have no awareness of either the spiritual world nor would I have an awareness of states existing beyond ego-consciousness. I speak as a long time meditator, student of religion, and chanter of mantras and affirmations.
In other words, I would certainly not be at this stage writing to you or entertaining ideas such as those posted on your site if it had not been for certain experiences I had negotiated on those substances. I would have no idea what you’re talking about and I would probably be out getting drunk and having indiscriminate sex and avoiding the issue of my spiritual growth entirely. I understand now that the doorway to Christhood actually is also the doorway to bliss. And the doorway to bliss opens the heart and endows one with unconditional compassion.
I believe this is a powerful incentive to those who want to progress beyond the limited ego. In short, why are ALL drugs bad? Is it because they cut out the middle man of the chela/guru relationship? Surely some drug experiences, like all confronting experiences, can dissolve the ego boundaries and hasten the seeker on towards christhood.
Please point out the huge fallacies in what I am saying, as my christ discernment has deserted me on this issue.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

First of all, let me thank you for asking a question that is important to many spiritual seekers—given that so many people in today’s world have taken drugs in some form. Let me also compliment you for demonstrating that you are willing to attain a higher understanding than what you believe based on your experiences to this point. This is the attitude of a true spiritual seeker. So let me give you some thoughts to ponder.

Thought 1
There is a large, and ever-growing, number of people who have had a near-death experience. For many of them, the experience was life-changing. While out of the body, these lifestreams experienced a level of reality that many of them had not known or had denied all their lives. They received profound insights and visions that transformed their lives. Obviously, for many people, having a near-death experience was beneficial to their spiritual growth. The only problem is that they had to die to have the experience.

Do you think I would recommend the creation of clinics where people were put to death in such a way that there was a high chance of resuscitating them? If you think so, watch the movie “Flatliners” and you will see why I don’t recommend this.

Thought 2
My point for this somewhat melodramatic opening thought is to show you that although I want all people to experience maximum spiritual growth, I want them to have this growth in a way that is completely safe. So you have to evaluate the risk versus the potential reward. If you have cancer, chemotherapy might be – given the current, rather primitive, level of medical science – your only chance of survival. Chemotherapy is an attempt to kill the cancer—if it doesn’t kill your body first. In other words, it is a very high-risk procedure, and if there was a safer alternative, no sane person would use it.

It is true that certain drugs can help people have experiences beyond their normal level of awareness. In some cases this can open a person to the existence of something beyond the material world, and this awareness can have a lasting effect. However, this recognition can be obtained in many ways that are far safer than using drugs. My point being that you have to evaluate the risks before you can asses the real value. The problem is that in today’s world there is little teaching about the spiritual risks associated with taking drugs. Therefore, most people have been misled into taking drugs without knowing what can happen. To me this is such an obvious violation of free will that spiritual seekers should be able to see that the entire drug culture could only have been inspired by dark forces seeking to steal people’s spiritual light.

What are some of the risks? Let us consider the reason most people don’t have spiritual experiences. As I explain throughout this website, the basis for having a spiritual experience is that you turn the dial of consciousness and tune in to a level of reality beyond the material universe. What prevents many people from turning the dial is that they identify so strongly with the material universe/physical body/outer personality that they cannot let go of their normal sense of awareness and identity. One might think this is in opposition to people’s spiritual growth, but that is not necessarily the case.

Everything in this world revolves around people’s free will. Your conscious mind is meant to be a guardian that protects your lifestream. One aspect of this protection is that you can decide that there are certain energies, ideas or forces that you do not want to allow into the energy field of your lifestream. Yet when you take drugs, you suspend your ability to make conscious choices, and thus your conscious mind – overpowered by the hallucinations produced by the drugs – can no longer make free choices.

In reality, free will is a gift that comes with responsibility—as does every other true gift. One might say that you choose to take drugs, so you are simply exercising your free will. However, the consequence of your choice is that you give away your ability to make choices. And according to the Law of Free Will, giving away the power to choose makes you vulnerable to the forces that roam this world, seeking whom they may devour. If you doubt that such forces exist, consider why most drug users eventually have a “bad trip.”

The ugly fact is that while you are under the influence of drugs, your energy field is no longer protected by your conscious will. So unless you have a high degree of spiritual protection, you are likely to be invaded by dark forces that steal your light. They can do this because while you are under the influence of drugs, you cannot consciously hold back your light and are much more likely to give it away. When you have a genuine spiritual experience, you will feel filled with light. This light might flush out unresolved wounds or even dark forces from your subconscious mind. While you are processing or letting go of this darkness, your body and mind can become tired, as when you are battling an illness.

Yet a genuine spiritual experience will not drain you of your basic life energy, your life force. Therefore, such experiences put you in an upward spiral. Taking drugs on an ongoing basis will drain your vital energy, and this puts you in a downward spiral. That is why you see so many of the “creative” people who use drugs looking older than their actual age. That is also why people gradually slip deeper and deeper into addiction—their resistance is eventually lowered beyond the point of no return.

You mention that some people have received spiritual insights as a result of using drugs, but how reliable were those insights? I can assure you that many people have, by taking drugs, invited dark forces into their energy fields. Such dark forces do not want to give you spiritual truth, because they don’t want to set you free, they want to control you for their own selfish ends. Yet they will often give people some spiritual insights in order to keep them coming back for more. Mixed in with the truth are subtle lies, and unfortunately many sincere spiritual seekers have, while under the influence of drugs, come to accept certain erroneous ideas that prevent them from rising above a certain level of the path. You see, the dark forces and your ego don’t mind that you rise to a certain level and feel like you are a very spiritual person—as long as you keep feeding them energy and never rise high enough to escape their control.

To evaluate the risk of using drugs, you need to carefully consider the danger of addiction. The problem here is that when you force an experience beyond ordinary consciousness, you might not be ready to integrate that experience into your daily awareness. You will not be able to handle the immense contrast between the “peak” experience and your normal daily awareness. This can happen also when people have spontaneous spiritual experiences or near-death experiences. However, when people have an experience as a result of taking drugs, the situation is different, because people produced that experience by their own will and by mechanical means, so they can repeat it any time.

This sets up an immense temptation to take another dose of drugs, and it can quickly develop into an attempt to run away from your daily state of consciousness. This leads to an emotional addiction that can quickly – depending on the drug used – develop into a chemical addiction. In other words, the emotions become addicted before the body does.

The problem here is that when you repeat the experience, you are not likely to integrate any insights you might have into your daily awareness. So you are not actually growing spiritually, because the true definition of spiritual growth is not the peak experiences you have (however they come about). In reality, having peak experiences is not nearly as important as many spiritual seekers make it out to be. The real driving force of spiritual growth is the intuitive insights that help you integrate spiritual ideas into your everyday awareness.

The true measure of growth is that you truly raise your “normal” state of consciousness instead of just being spiritual while having peak experiences. It is the goal of the ascended masters to raise the consciousness of humankind. To do that, we don’t need millions of people sitting in caves in the Himalayas, experiencing constant bliss. We need millions of people who participate in life with some degree of Christ consciousness, so they can bring Christed solutions to everyday problems.

Thought 3
One might think that any experience beyond the ordinary, materialistic awareness would be beneficial to spiritual growth. Unfortunately, that is not the case. If a lifestream is not ready for the experience, the lifestream can be so shocked that its sense of identity can be shattered. For many lifestreams, their sense of identity is very fragile. They need a solid, meaning materialistic, foundation for their sense of identity or they will be thrown into an identity crises. A forced spiritual experience – whether it is forced through drugs or other means (such as unbalanced use of spiritual exercises) – can have profoundly negative effects that can take years or lifetimes to heal. That is why I continually state that the spiritual path is a gradual process and that you need to approach it in a balanced manner.

My point is that forcing a spiritual experience will not necessarily lead to spiritual growth. It will often have the opposite effect, and the deciding factor is the lifestream’s level of spiritual maturity—or lack of it. As a general rule, I would say that if a lifestream is not ready, forcing an experience will delay the lifestream’s progress. And when the lifestream is ready, the spiritual experience will occur without forcing it. That is why I said:

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. (Matthew 11:12)

That statement is still valid, and one of the ways in which people seek to take a spiritual experience before they are ready for it is by taking drugs. One might say that I am contradicting myself by saying that everything revolves around free will but that you should not willingly force a spiritual experience. Yet this seems contradictory only when you are trapped in a dualistic way of thinking, which makes you susceptible to the belief that the ends can justify the means. When you think this way, you reason something like this:

  • The goal is a higher state of consciousness and this is a very important goal.
  • To attain this state of awareness, I need spiritual experiences.
  • I haven’t had any so far. I have tried spiritual techniques but they didn’t work. By taking a drug, I am guaranteed to have such experiences.
  • Therefore, taking a drug is a perfectly logical way to enhance my spiritual growth.

One could write a long philosophical discourse on the problems with this line of reasoning, but let us stay on target. The real problem here is that you are trying to use the dualistic state of consciousness to overcome dualism, and that simply cannot be done. You cannot fight force with force because doing so only drives you even deeper into duality. It is a spiritual catch-22.

The essence of the spiritual path is that you are trapped in duality and separation. The goal is to overcome duality and separation, yet the reasoning above springs from duality. One might say you are attempting to attain a worthy goal but using means that cannot get you to that goal. One might also say you do not fully understand the goal and the appropriate means to get there. Instead, what you really need to do in order to have genuine spiritual experiences is to surrender the elements of your current mental box. It is through surrender, not force, that you make real progress.

Thought 4
You ask whether taking drugs is an attempt to “cut out the middle man of the chela/guru relationship,” and the answer is that it depends on what kind of guru you are talking about. A true guru, one who is working under the lineage of the ascended masters, will NEVER recommend drugs for any student. It simply isn’t done by us, period! The reason is partly that the risks are too great, but the real reason is that drugs do circumvent the guru-chela relationship. Why would you need a guru when you can just take a pill?

In connection with the previous thought, here is the central dilemma in human existence and on the spiritual path. Everything is subject to your free will, yet most people are not exercising their free will. They are letting their egos make most choices for them, as explained by the Presence of God’s Will. So to truly walk the spiritual path, you must use your conscious will to decide that you will go beyond the outer will of the ego and connect to the inner will of your I AM Presence.

This process can be difficult and confusing, especially for the beginning student. That is why we offer the guru-chela, or master-disciple, relationship. The basic principle here is that the student surrenders his outer, ego-based, will to the master. This gives the student a temporary reprieve from the confusion of having to battle his outer will or discerning between the ego’s will and the higher will. The master is making decisions for the student, the master is more spiritually mature than the student and is outside the student’s mental box. Therefore, the master can gradually guide the student to a greater discernment between the lower will and the true will. The master knows how to guide each individual student, and this might entail not allowing a student to have a spiritual experience until the student is ready for it. For an excellent description of this process, read Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda.

Again, based on the previous thought, it should be possible to see that when you take a drug, it is the outer will that decides to do so. So you are making the essential error of thinking that you can use the outer will, the will of the ego, to escape the ego. This simply cannot be done. The only way is to transcend the ego, and to do that you must make contact with something higher. However, that something is not really a spiritual experience. The real escape is to contact your Christ self and gradually merge with that self so you have a permanent transformation of consciousness.

My point is that having a powerful spiritual experience will not necessarily and automatically enhance your spiritual growth. If you are not ready to integrate the experience, it can be a distraction or even a hindrance. When you work with an outer guru (physical or ascended) or the inner guru of your Christ self, you are essentially admitting that your ego will never know when you are ready for a spiritual experience. Thus, you are setting aside the will of the ego and submitting to a higher will, trusting that when you are ready, you will have the experiences you need. Instead of taking heaven by force, you are following my call:

In your patience possess ye your souls. (Luke 21:19)

The ego always thinks it knows best, even better than a spiritual teacher or God. But if you follow the ego, the ego becomes your guru, and how can it take you beyond the duality from which it was born?

Thought 5
You know from medical science that when a person has open brain surgery, it is possible to physically or electrically stimulate specific centers of the brain and produce certain experiences in the patient’s mind, including spiritual experiences. This fact has been used by some scientists as “proof” that all religion and spirituality is the product of brain chemistry. This is a flawed reasoning. In reality, the brain is the interface between the lifestream and the body. When your lifestream is in the body, it experiences everything through the brain, including a spiritual experience. As I said, when you have a spiritual experience, you turn the dial of consciousness and tune in to the spiritual realm. This can be done through the brain because the brain has centers that facilitate such an experience.

Because the brain has the physical machinery for a spiritual experience, it is possible to stimulate the brain into producing what seems like a genuine experience. This can be done through physical, electrical, magnetic and chemical stimuli. The problem is that this is not a genuine spiritual experience. It is an experience produced by the brain, and while it may seem very authentic, it is not the real thing. It is like the difference between watching a movie of a beautiful beach and actually being physically present on that beach. My point being that the majority of drug-induced “spiritual” experiences are not genuine.

In all fairness, it must be stated that a few people have actually had out-of-body experiences as a result of taking drugs. In that case, it is possible that a lifestream can travel to the spiritual realm and have a genuine experience while the brain is under the influence of drugs. In rare cases, the lifestream might actually have some memory of the genuine experience. The problem here is that there is a great risk that a lifestream can go to lower realms instead of the spiritual realm—and this risk is much higher for people who are willing to take heaven by force. If a lifestream has the spiritual maturity to go to the spiritual realm, that lifestream could easily learn to have genuine spiritual experiences without drugs. It would mainly take a correct understanding of the need to surrender the outer will of the ego and connect to the higher will. Obviously, spiritual techniques and studies can be a great help.

My point is that if a lifestream is mature enough to have genuine spiritual experiences from drugs without being trapped in the risks, that lifestream really doesn’t need the drugs. Unfortunately, there are examples of many such lifestreams who got caught up in the drug culture and ended up in addiction instead of having the spiritual breakthrough for which they were almost ready.

Thought 6
The fact that the brain’s machinery can handle the intense energies of a spiritual experience brings up the most severe risk concerning drug use. The circuitry in the brain that allows for a spiritual experience is very complex, and thus rather delicate. You know very well that if you take an appliance that is designed for 110 Volt and plug it into a 220 Volt outlet, you will destroy the circuitry. Likewise, hallucinogenic drugs can damage the circuitry that allows the brain to facilitate a spiritual experience.

That is why most of the people who take drugs will need progressively larger doses in order to get the same experience. The explanation is that the circuitry gradually becomes damaged, so it takes more “power” to get the “lights” to go on. This, of course, becomes a vicious circle that often ends up in chemical addiction. Many people have damaged their brains to such an extent that they can no longer have a genuine spiritual experience. Yet they can still force the brain to produce the look-a-like. Such people often think they are very spiritual, but “its all in the brain.”

Thought 7
What do you do if you have taken drugs? That depends on whether you are still taking them. If you are still using drugs, even on an irregular basis, I strongly urge you to STOP IMMEDIATELY. You might have heard the saying that when the student is ready, the teacher appears. If you are open to the teachings on this website, you are at a level where drugs will do absolutely nothing for your spiritual growth. Even if you thought you needed drugs in the past, you no longer need them.

Be aware that the ego thinks it knows everything, so it will tell you that you are one of the people who can take drugs and keep it under control—you can do what other people can’t do. This is the main reason why some “creative” people have used drugs for a lifetime, and it shows you they are controlled by the pride of their egos—which truly is not very creative.

I know there are people who are firmly convinced that they have not been harmed by taking drugs and that it has accelerated their spiritual growth. Let us assume this is true. If so, there can be only one reason, namely that you are an advanced lifestream and that you have great spiritual protection. If that is the case, you should realize that a truly advanced lifestream does not need drugs to have a spiritual experience, and it is time to throw away the crutch. If you can’t give up drugs, perhaps you are not really as advanced as you think.

You should also consider that spiritual protection is a grace that can be used up. If you have earned spiritual protection in past lives, you can get away with many things in this life. Yet if you continue to tempt God, your protection might run out and then I can assure you that drugs will suddenly have a very different effect on you—as you see in the lives of some “creative” people. Also, if you have protection, be very careful about getting other people to use drugs. If they don’t have the same protection, they will be affected differently and you will make karma by influencing them.

If you recognize truth on this website, it is time to come up higher by heeding Paul’s advice:

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. (1Corinthians 13:11)

If you have already stopped taking drugs, congratulations! Simply focus on making spiritual progress and don’t blame yourself. However, be aware that you need to seriously consider the need to surrender the anti-will of the ego to the higher will of either an outer guru or the inner guru of your Christ self. I recommend the Rosary to God’s Will for this purpose, especially a 33-day vigil. I would also highly recommend that you use spiritual techniques, such as Mother Mary’s invocations and the decrees, to repair the brain’s machinery by invoking spiritual energy. You can also use various methods to cleanse the body from the chemical residue of the drugs, which can linger in the brain for a long time and block spiritual experiences.

In conclusion, let me say that while a few people have become more open to the spiritual side of life by using drugs, these lifestreams could have attained the same – and in many cases better – results by following a genuine spiritual teaching. Therefore, I strongly recommend that anyone who is open to this website avoids drugs or does whatever it takes to escape their downward pull. You cannot serve two masters!

Thought 8
As far as the many creative people who have taken drugs, there is a fundamental difference between being a creative person and being a genuine spiritual teacher. You simply have to decide whom you will follow, whom you will make your guru. If you select a guru or role-model, that guru can take you no higher than his own state of consciousness. Do you really want to go where these “creative” people are in consciousness, or would you rather go where I am in consciousness?

To help you make that choice, I recommend you study my discourse, Follow me, not Peter! and absorb its inner meaning. You cannot serve God and mammon, and “mammon” is a symbol for the consciousness of this world, the desire to glorify the ego, which is what causes people to attempt to take heaven by force.

Do we need a structured outer path?

TOPICS: Creators and organizers – creators don’t like structure – both can become unbalanced – swinging between extremes – transcending the extremes – the need for structure – take what is useful – no need to throw away all beliefs – from a fear-based to a love-based approach – no beliefs are final – revelation and ritual – practice spiritual tools to find balance – practical steps to find balance –

Question: Dear Jesus, I have never had a structured outer path to follow. Instead I’ve picked up lots of ideas from this and that book, therapy, religion, whatever. I believe this has led to my having an unstructured and confusing belief system. I want to throw it all out. Where do I begin? I feel l need an outer path to follow before I can follow the inner path. What do you say to people in my situation?

People say I think too much. They’re probably right but I cannot seem to turn it off. Your thoughts?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

There is not necessarily anything wrong with not having a structured outer path. Some people are organizers and have a greater need for structure and stability. Others are creators and have a need to express creativity without being restricted by outer rules and regulations. There are many people in embodiment today who belong to the group of creators, and that is why so many people reject an outer religion or belief system.

I obviously belonged to this group, as do the mystics of all ages. However, this does not mean that creators are more important or somehow better than organizers. Both are equally needed because they are expressions of the expanding force of the Father (creators) and the contracting force of the Mother, as explained by Mother Mary in her discourses.

Both of the two types of people can become unbalanced, and when they do, they tend to go into one of two extremes. The creators refuse to accept any kind of rules and become rebels. The organizers want everything to conform to outer rules and they become judges.

The main idea I seek to get across throughout my website is that the key to spiritual growth is to rise above the relative extremes that spring from the dualistic mind. So when an organizer becomes trapped in the dualistic mind, he goes into the extreme of believing that there is only true religion and that by following all the outer rules of that religion, you will automatically be saved. This is what happened to the scribes and the Pharisees that I encountered 2,000 years ago, and there are many people with that mindset today. They are attracted to the fundamentalist branches of any religion. Or they are attracted to the fundamentalist religion called scientific materialism.

When a creator becomes trapped in the dualistic mind, he tends to reject all kinds of rules or structure. This can lead to the belief that there is no value in any organization or belief system and that any belief is as good as any other belief. In other words, there really is no truth and falsity because it is just a matter of what we want to believe. This is what you see in some people in the New Age movement or people who have rejected all forms of organized religion or structured beliefs.

When a lifestream is extremely unbalanced, it will go into one of the two extremes and stay there for the rest of its life, never questioning its basic approach to religion. When a lifestream has become more mature, it tends to go into one extreme, but it is not at peace with that choice. Pressure keeps building until the lifestream can no longer stand it, and then it flips to the opposite extreme. Such people can swing back and forth between two extremes for a long time, possibly for many lifetimes.

The main message on this website is that there is an alternative to these unbalanced reactions. That alternative is the Christ consciousness which takes you above and beyond the dualistic extremes. This does not mean that you compromise between the two extremes. It means that you rise to a higher state of consciousness than the dualistic mind which created the extremes. Instead of thinking that one extreme is right and must win, you simply leave both extremes behind.

The key to following the middle way of the Christ consciousness is to strive for balance in all things. This does not mean that all people should follow the same type of path or approach spiritual growth in the same way. If you are an organizer, you will need to have a structured path and you will need to be a member of an outer organization. Yes this does not mean that you need to find the most extreme or fanatical organization possible. And you don’t need to become rigid in rejecting all other beliefs than the official doctrines of a particular organization. You can be a member of an organization and still keep your mind open to other teachings and ideas. For example, I have no problem with someone who has been a member of a particular church or religion for a lifetime studying the teachings on this website while still remaining a faithful member of his or her particular religion.

If you are a creator, you might find that many religious organizations are too confining for you. You can then find an organization that is more open or you can follow the spiritual path on your own. Yet this does not mean that you reject all formal belief systems. It means that you study such belief systems and take the ideas you find valuable and practice the rituals that appeal to you.

To return to your question, I can assure you that there are many people who come to a point in their lives where they feel like they are at a crossroads. Their lifestreams realize that the approach they have taken so far cannot get them any further, so they see the need to do something different. This is actually a sign of spiritual maturity.

I understand that this stage can often be a burden to people, and that is why you might feel like throwing all your existing beliefs out the window. However, I encourage you to take a more positive approach. Everything you have done up to this point in your life was done because somewhere in your being you felt that you needed to have that experience in order to learn something and move higher on your personal path. So nothing has been a waste because everything has been a learning opportunity.

Therefore, you don’t need to throw away all of your existing beliefs and you don’t need to say that your previous approach to religion was wrong. Instead, you simply realize that your existing beliefs and your current approach to religion cannot take you any further. You have reached a certain level, and in order to come up higher, you need to change your approach and open your mind to new ideas.

If you look at the world today, you see that there are two main approaches to religion or spirituality. One is the extremist approach, and as I explained above, there are two versions of it. You might think that a Christian fundamentalist and an New Age person who rejects all structured beliefs are taking opposite approaches to religion. In reality, they both take the approach of believing that their current paradigm is absolute, infallible and complete—and therefore it never needs to change.

My point being that many people approach spirituality from a state of fear. When you are trapped in fear, you have a need to adopt a certain belief system, a certain world view, that can help you cope with your fears. This is what causes people to adopt a world view that they believe is absolute, that they believe could never change and that they believe there is no reason to question or look beyond. In other words, these people think they have it all figured out, and because they have it all figured out, they are saved. And because they are saved, they are able to live with their fears, even though they have done nothing to process and overcome the cause of those fears.

As a lifestream matures, it will eventually come to a crossroad. One on the most significant turning points on the spiritual path is when a lifestream is ready to abandon the fear-based approach to spirituality and move into a love-based approach. We who are the spiritual teachers of humankind are constantly watching all lifestreams evolving on earth. We watch with great anticipation and excitement for the point when a lifestream reaches the crossroads where it realizes that fear no longer works and that it needs to find an approach to spirituality that is based on love. This is when we get excited, for this is when we know that the lifestream is ready to take a major leap forward and open itself to our guidance and direction.

When you are ready to find a love-based approach to spirituality, the best thing you can do is to move into the conscious awareness and decision that none of your beliefs are final, absolute or beyond questioning. In other words, I am not encouraging you to throw away all of your existing beliefs because your lifestream needs a foundation to stand on. What I am encouraging you to do is to decide that you are willing to question any of your existing beliefs and to reach for a higher understanding of any aspect of life. And if you find that a certain belief stands in the way of you acquiring that higher understanding, you are willing to abandon that belief. This is the hallmark of a true spiritual seeker.

Besides adopting this attitude, I would also strongly encourage you to realize that as you need two legs in order to walk, there are two things that will help you walk the spiritual path. I talk about this in much greater detail in the book Save Yourself, but the basic idea is that what drives your spiritual progress is the two Rs, namely revelation and ritual.

Revelation means that you study spiritual teachings with an open mind and a willingness to question any of your existing beliefs, thereby opening yourself to revelation from your Christ self and spiritual teachers. However, in order to experience a stable and constant growth, you need to establish some form of ritual.

Nature is not chaotic and unstructured. Nature has order and rhythm, as you see in the progression of the seasons and in every other aspects of the design of the material universe. So if you think that you can wander through life without any kind of constancy, structure or ritual, you will not make maximum spiritual progress. You will too easily be driven hither and yon by other people or by certain energies or dark forces.

To experience constant progress, you need to find a spiritual technique and practice it on a regular basis. It needs to be an efficient technique that can drive your spiritual progress. There are a number of such techniques out there, and you should feel free to pick one that appeals to you at your present level of consciousness. However, for those who have found this website and are open to the teachings on it, I strongly encourage you to consider the old saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” If you have found this website, it is because your lifestream is ready for the teachings we give. So why not make use of the rituals I present on the toolbox website?

My recommendation would therefore be that you establish a ritual whereby you spend some time each morning invoking spiritual protection. I recommend that you give all or half of Archangel Michael’s Rosary every morning or give the decrees to Archangel Michael. Then in the evening spend some time using a ritual for the transformation of toxic energy. You can use the decrees to the Violet Flame, but for most people I would recommend Mother Mary’s rosaries and invocations. Also, use the decree to Astrea  to cut you free from all ties to dark forces.

I would also recommend that after having given a rosary in the evening, you seek to tune in to your Christ self. You can use the technique for inner attunement or the decree for communing with me.

I can assure you that anyone who would follow these recommendations would notice a positive difference. For some people it might take time before they experience a major breakthrough, for others the difference will be noticeable almost immediately.

I see many sincere spiritual seekers who have made great progress in terms of understanding spiritual truth, but because they have not adopted an efficient ritual and practiced it on a regular basis, they have not made maximum progress on their path. They have not fully internalized their understanding, and therefore they are not able to express it through their daily activities. So remember the two positive Rs, Revelation and Ritual. And avoid the two negative Rs, pRide and Rigidity.

Overcoming frustration on the spiritual path

TOPICS: Walking the path is like trying to assemble a jigsaw puzzle without knowing what the final result will look like – the basic qualities of a seeker – how to rise above frustration

Question: Dear Jesus, I have many questions about spiritual topics and I’m having a hard time grasping the reality of it. It seems that every answer I get to a question only generates a dozen more. I feel like I’m working on a complex jigsaw puzzle and every time I manage to fit one piece into the puzzle, a whole new load of pieces is dumped on the table. I try not to get frustrated, but sometimes I do walk away from the table for a breather. I always come back, though. If you could shed any more light on this subject, I would be very grateful.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

I deeply appreciate it when a question demonstrates that the person has thought about the topic by using his or her intuition instead of the analytical mind. I fully understand your feeling that every time you think you have found one answer, that answer leads to more questions. However, what you are going through is only a temporary phase, and as you grow toward Christhood, it will come to an end.

When you start the spiritual path, it is like trying to assemble a jigsaw puzzle without having the box. In other words you don’t know what the assembled puzzle is supposed to look like, so how can you tell where a piece is supposed to fit? Yet as you continue to study spiritual teachings and seek intuitive insights, you will one day be able to see the picture on the jigsaw puzzle even though some of the pieces might still be missing.

I can tell you that you are demonstrating the exact qualities that are needed for spiritual seekers on the path:

  • You are willing to consider a topic even though it is difficult and goes beyond your current knowledge and beliefs.
  • You are willing to wrestle with the difficult questions and you refuse to let them go until you find a higher understanding.

Even the fact that you sometimes walk away from the table is part of the process. You cannot resolve some of these deep questions with the outer, analytical mind. So once you have stimulated creative tension, it is necessary to walk away and give your outer mind a rest, so that the answer can surface through intuitive insights. The entire process is the process of discovering and applying the key of knowledge. You might recall that I said the lawyers had taken away the key of knowledge:

Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. (Luke 11:52)

The lawyers believed, as do many orthodox Christians today, that the truth can be found only in the outer scriptures, in the letter of the law. They were not willing to go beyond the outer scriptures and doctrines in order to achieve an intuitive understanding. They wanted only to consider what could be described in words and what could be interpreted literally.

Yet the simple fact is that words are linear, and the spiritual reality is spherical. Therefore, there is a limitation that makes it impossible to fully describe the spiritual reality with words. This becomes even more of a problem when people have descended into the dualistic state of consciousness that takes linear words and makes them relative on top of being linear. This makes it very difficult to explain spiritual truth by using words, because people will often interpret those words according to what they want to believe.

So the only way for spiritual seekers to know truth is to use words, such as an outer scripture or the words I give on this website, only as a stepping stone. The fallacy of so many orthodox religious people is that they believe the truth about God can be confined to a scripture composed of words. In reality, no scripture was ever released for the purpose of giving a complete and infallible description of the spiritual reality. It intended to give people a foundation that they could stand on as they reach beyond the outer words and open their minds to an intuitive experience that goes beyond words. So the words are only meant to be a tool that enables the mind to reach beyond the material universe and receive an insight that cannot be expressed in words.

This then is the key to overcoming your frustration. As you continue doing what you are doing, perhaps using some of the tools I give on our other website, LINK you will gradually become more attuned to your Christ self. Thereby, you will receive more profound insights about the spiritual reality. Many of those insights will be inner experience that are in many dimensions, almost like the difference between watching a photograph and experiencing the actual object in three dimensions. Some of these experiences simply cannot be expressed in words, yet they will still unlock your understanding of who you are.

The foundation for your growth is to transform the energies created by dualistic beliefs

TOPICS: How limiting beliefs generate misqualified energies that accumulate in your energy field – the foundation for growth is to transform the energies – gradual path of replacing dualistic beliefs – seek contact with your Christ self – practical tools for transforming energy and replacing dualistic beliefs –

Question: If we create reality trough our beliefs, then how can we change our current beliefs and adapt new ones in practice?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

As a foundation for my answer, let me insert a teaching from the book Save Yourself:

Jesus: I know there are many organizations that promote various spiritual techniques as a magic bullet that will solve all of your problems. Yet it simply isn’t possible to heal your psychological wounds exclusively through ritual. The reason is that everything is subject to your free will. What causes you to generate toxic energy is that you choose to engage in imperfect thoughts and emotions. This choice usually springs from the fact that you either have an incomplete understanding of life or that you have accepted certain erroneous beliefs. This acceptance of false beliefs likely happened in past lifetimes, so these beliefs might have become very ingrained in your psyche. Yet the acceptance of erroneous beliefs always begins with a choice. Therefore, it can be undone by making a better choice.

Let me attempt to give a visual illustration of this. I have said that what keeps a soul alive is a constant stream of energy flowing from the spiritual self. You might compare your consciousness to a river. If your thoughts and emotions are pure, the Water of Life can flow freely. You feel a great connection to your spiritual self and you have abundant energy. When you accept an incorrect idea or belief, it is like throwing a rock into the river. If you throw a rock into a stream, you impede the flow of the water. The water has to flow around the rock, and this creates a vortex behind the rock in which debris can accumulate. Once you make the decision to accept an erroneous idea, that belief will block the light from your spiritual self. The erroneous belief will misqualify the light, and the misqualified energy will begin to accumulate “downstream” from the erroneous belief. It is like silt accumulating behind the rock in a stream.

Now imagine that a soul has had many lifetimes in which it has accepted erroneous beliefs. Each belief is like throwing a rock into the river. Misqualified energy begins to accumulate behind the rock, and it starts filling up the river bed. This will impede the flow of the water and it might dam the stream. When the stream is completely clogged with rocks and silt, people lose all awareness of the spiritual side of life. They forget their spiritual origin and begin to believe that they are material, human beings. Because the conscious mind (and all levels of the soul) are downstream from the spiritual self, the blocks in the river prevent the conscious mind from seeing the I AM Presence.

How can you begin to improve the situation? You must start by removing the silt that has accumulated behind the rocks. The silt is misqualified energy. You invoke high-frequency spiritual energy and direct it into the misqualified energy, thereby raising the vibration of the misqualified energy. As you clear away the misqualified energy, you can begin to see the rock, meaning the erroneous belief, that started the process of accumulation. Once you uncover that erroneous belief, you have to undo the original decision that caused you to accept that belief. This must be a conscious process because you have to make a new decision to replace the original decision. [end quote]

As you can see, the practical way to replace your current beliefs is to engage in a twofold process. The foundation for your growth, and a factor that is often overlooked by spiritual seekers, is to transform the energies created by imperfect beliefs. These energies prevent you from seeing the underlying belief. Or they will result in an emotional attachment that makes you feel like you either cannot, will not or do not have to replace the limiting belief. By transforming these energies, you will make it much easier for yourself to uncover and replace the often subconscious beliefs that are holding you back on your spiritual path.

The other element is that you must uncover your deeper beliefs and replace them by consciously making better decisions. As you go through this process, you can gradually replace all limiting beliefs until your entire world view is based on Christ truth. This will not happen overnight, and for many people it will be a lifelong process. Yet there will be many rewards along the way in the form of a greater sense of spiritual freedom and peace of mind.

In order to uncover your limiting beliefs, it is extremely valuable to sharpen your intuitive faculties and expand your conscious contact with your Christ self. When you use your intuition while studying spiritual teachings, your Christ self can use an outer teaching to give you many insights that will help you replace limiting beliefs. However, you can achieve even better results by deliberately going into the subconscious mind through various forms of therapy aimed at uncovering your hidden beliefs.

As a very practical measure, use the many decrees and invocations we have released. The invocations are designed to transform imperfect energies and to help you resolve the dualistic beliefs that cause you to misqualify energy. By using all of the tools that are available to you in today’s world, you can quickly make progress toward a greater sense of freedom. I can assure you that even though this will require work, it is well worth the effort.

One might say that spiritual growth and salvation is all about replacing your dualistic beliefs. It is truly your dualistic beliefs, the beliefs that make up your human sense of identity, that keep you out of heaven. As I said, “The kingdom of God is within you,” meaning that the key to entering the kingdom of God is to attain a higher state of consciousness, namely Christ consciousness. The key to attaining Christ consciousness is to transcend all imperfect beliefs.

The role of humor on the spiritual path

TOPICS: Taking yourself too seriously – laughing at your ego – humor turns away dark forces – higher and lower humor – heaven is full of joy – can laugh your way into heaven; cannot cry your way into heaven – humor is liberating – humor has a high vibration – joy and laughter – Jesus did not laugh often – become as joyful as little children – God is the most joyful being of all –

Question: Dear Master Jesus, thank you for your insightful advise. It has really helped me make some important choices about my path. This has resulted in some “dark nights of the soul.” After reading The Christ Is Born in You and reading many questions and answers on this website I was wondering about humor. It seems that spiritual growth is serious, but can the growth incorporate humor too? The image that many Christians (including myself) have of you is a quiet, reserved person. Do you have also a playful side? They say that the best medicine is laughter. Any insight about incorporating laughter as we sometimes struggle to reach higher.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

I can assure you that there is much humor and joy here in heaven, and therefore there should be room for humor on the spiritual path on earth. In fact, let me say that if you cannot laugh at yourself, you are taking yourself too seriously. And if you cannot laugh at a particular topic, including your religion, you are taking that topic too seriously.

Humor is indeed a liberating force that can have a powerful impact on setting people free from the prison of the human ego and the dualistic mind. The human ego is very serious about preserving its image and its sense of being in control. When you identify with the ego, you cannot laugh at yourself. If you think someone is making fun of you, the ego feels threatened, and it attempts to squeeze all joy from your life. Therefore, one of the best ways to neutralize the ego is to use humor.

As Saint Thomas More once said, “The devil, the evil spirit, cannot endure to be mocked.” There is indeed no better way to turn away dark forces than by using humor. The dark forces are consumed by their egos, and therefore they take themselves very seriously—and they want all human beings to do the same. If you refuse to take them seriously, or even use humor to deflate their egos, they will find it difficult to find an inroad into your consciousness.

Obviously, as with everything else on this planet, there is a higher form of humor and a lower form of humor. I am sure everyone interested in spiritual growth can tell the difference, and it is truly a difference in vibration. Some forms of humor are gross or base, and they cause your energies to flow downward. Other forms of humor are light-hearted and cause your energies to move up. I am not encouraging anyone to engage in any lower form of humor, which is basically any form of humor that degrades other human beings. However, I strongly encourage people to use humor as part of the spiritual path because it truly can liberate you from becoming trapped in the illusion created by dark forces, namely that everything is so serious and should be taken so seriously that there is no room for any real joy in life.

Let me say that many Christians have developed the attitude that it is necessary to walk around with a sad face in order to make it to heaven. In reality, this is an illusion. God has no desire to force people to enter heaven. God wants people to enter of their own free-will choosing, and why would you choose to enter heaven if you see it as a place with no joy? God created human beings so they are naturally attracted to that which is light and joyful, and they are repulsed by that which is dark and dreary. God created you that way because heaven is full of light and joy, and God wants you to be attracted to heaven. So if your religion makes you take life too seriously, then you are not headed in the direction of heaven. If not, you might want to lighten up and take your spirituality and your religion less seriously. It is quite possible to laugh your way into heaven but it is not possible to cry your way into heaven.

We of the ascended masters often use humor to diffuse a tense situation. Although heaven is a place with great joy, those of us working with human beings often find ourselves in somewhat tense situations because it is difficult to determine exactly how to help our unascended brothers and sisters move forward on the spiritual path. Truly, there are so many problems and so much darkness in the earth that even an ascended master can become tense when dealing with these situations. We often used humor to lighten a meeting or discussion, because we know that when things get too tense, the tension itself will block the right solution.

Up here, we never make fun of people or each other in a malicious or degrading way. But we will make fun of each other in a good-natured way, and we will make fun of ourselves because we do not take ourselves too seriously. We will often use our past mistakes or shortcomings in a humorous way to prove a point. If you want an example of our form of humor, read The Jesus Koans. It contains some sayings that bring a smile to the face of an ascended being.

Let me say that humor and joy is truly a vibration. It is a vibration of great light, and it can lift your spirit more than anything else. Humor is not necessarily the same as laughter. Laughter is a physiological reaction, and although it can relax your muscles, it does not necessarily lift your spirit. Base humor does not lift your spirit.

It is quite possible to use humor and joy without making people laugh. Joy can be a quiet glow that suddenly makes everyone realize that behind all the serious appearances on earth there is a deeper sense of joy. That joy can be released through the heart center of every human being, but those who are truly joyful can become electrodes of this inner glow. They can lighten up a room simply by walking into it and without cracking any jokes that make people laugh. They can open the door for a flood tide of the energy of joy simply by looking at someone with a blink in the eye or by smiling.

As you grow on the spiritual path, heal your psychological wounds and open your mind and heart to spiritual light, you will naturally become an electrode of joy. You will be able to dispel the gloom of a situation by just being the flame of joy in action.

You say that many Christians have an impression of me as being quiet and reserved. I do not know where that impression came from, because if you read the scriptures, you will see that I was not quiet or reserved when I challenged the scribes and the Pharisees. I was, and I am, a very direct Master, and I can assure you that I was quite outspoken. In fact, many people were offended by my outspokenness and directness. It is, however, correct that I did not often smile or laugh during my embodiment in Galilee. I knew I had a serious mission to fulfill, and from the point of no return at the wedding in Cana, I was so focused on meeting the daily tests and challenges that I had little attention left over for being joyful.

In retrospect, I wish I had been more joyful but at the time my attention was focused on dealing with the heavy energies and the outer challenges I faced. Today, I would have been far less serious but then again it is easy to look back at the past and think you could have done better.

Nevertheless, I see no reason Christians today should take themselves, their religion or the spiritual side of life too seriously. Make an effort to bring joy into your spiritual life, because unless you become as joyful as little children, how can you enter the kingdom of joy? Make an effort to become an electrode of joy and dispel the cloud of gloom that currently hangs over this planet. So many people in today’s world take themselves and their causes so seriously that they believe joyfulness is a sin, a crime or an offense to God. I can assure you that God is never offended by true joy. On the contrary, God is the most joyful being you will ever meet. How can there be anything but joy in the presence of God?

You might ask why I do not use humor on this website. The main reason is that in heaven we have a universal form of humor, but on earth humor is so dependent upon different cultures. On a website that can be accessed by people from every culture, I do not want to offend anyone’s cultural sensitivity. And I do not want to offend the many people who do take their religion too seriously but who might still be helped by the teachings on this website.

How to live in the now

TOPICS: You long for contact with your Christ self – a new identity – why life seems like a struggle – you can only change in the now – removing the blocks to being in the now –

Question: I have a problem and want to know if there exists any special practical tool which can help me.

I worry and I feel that I need a deeper realization of my
life. Once in a while I stumble, and I feel I must be more sensitive. I want to perceive more deeply in a way that allows me to somehow change the course of events, situations, relationships with people and so on.
As they say, each moment is valuable. How do I learn to appreciate each moment, each instant? I don’t want to wait until my old age to become more conscious, because life passes so quickly.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

What your lifestream is truly longing for is to establish a clear and conscious contact with your I AM Presence. The best practical tool to help you achieve this is the technique for inner attunement that I have given on the toolbox website. I also recommend that people invoke spiritual protection by giving decrees to Archangel Michael.  I especially recommend that people perform the 33 day vigil recommended here.

If you will perform this vigil, you will become more sensitive to your Christ self and through that you will get directions for how you can actually change events and relationships. As you begin to tune in to your true individuality as a spiritual being and begin to express that individuality in your outer consciousness and actions, you will begin to see change. At first the changes will be subtle, but they will gradually become more obvious and more significant.

If you will study my teachings given throughout this website, you will see that the true purpose of the spiritual path is to change your sense of identity. You must let go of the limited sense of identity as a mortal, human being and gradually build a new sense of identity as a spiritual being who is here on earth to express your God-given individuality.

The key to appreciating the moment is to be attuned to your Christ self and I AM Presence. When you have that sense of inner attunement, you feel whole and through that wholeness you will naturally appreciate each moment as a unique opportunity to express your God-given individuality. As a practical tool, use the invocations for transcending past, present and future.

The reason so many people have lost the connection to their I AM Presence is that they have descended into a lower state of consciousness. This state of consciousness is based on the illusion that the lifestream is separated from its source, separated from God. As long as you remain in this state of separation, life will inevitably seem like a struggle and you will be unable to appreciate the moment. Instead, you will see life as a continuous stream of challenges and struggles, and you will always look forward to some magical moment in the future when your struggles cease. Yet that magical moment in the future will never come. The change in your life, the change in your consciousness, cannot come sometime in the future—it can only come in the now.

You cannot change your life, you cannot change your consciousness, in the future. You can only change things in the now because it is in the now that you must make choices. Therefore, you will not appreciate the now until you come to a point where you decide to accept your true identity as a spiritual being. When will you make that decision? When you decide that it is time to make that decision NOW.

It is important to understand that many people are not currently at a level of consciousness where they can make the decision to live in the now. They have too many blocks or wounds in their psychology that prevent them from making that decision. That is why the ascended masters have always offered a gradual path which leads you towards the point where you are able to finally accept your true identity and begin to live in the moment.

Depending on the psychology of each individual lifestream, this path might be long or it might be short. However, if you will diligently follow the path, as outlined on this website, you will eventually arrive at the point where you can make the decision to be who you are, to be in the now. Simply use the tools to gradually resolve the blocks in your psychology and at the same time spend some time contemplating the need to make the decision to be. If you will be diligent, you will arrive, and one day you will suddenly realize that you are fully awake and alive in the eternal now.

Are we traumatized from our original spiritual birth?

TOPICS: Original birth was birth of the I AM Presence – Conscious You choose to go into separation – caused it to feel abandoned and this affected creation of soul – this trauma can be healed by following path to Christhood – this path also key to expressing your unique individuality without clashing with other people – key to peace of mind –

Question: Are we still traumatized by the original birth when God gave us free will and could we still feel abandoned from that? What was he thinking when he created us so uniquely…seems we clash because of it.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Your lifestream is not traumatized from your original spiritual birth, because that was the birth of your spiritual self or I AM Presence. That birth happened before your lifestream came into existence.

The Conscious You was created by your I AM Presence as a vehicle for experiencing and acting in the material universe. Your Conscious You was not traumatized when it was created, but the Conscious You does have a challenge that is inherent in its existence. It has to figure out how to maintain a sense of individuality while at the same time being a part of a larger whole, including the I AM Presence and the entire body of God. This is a challenge that the Conscious You usually takes a long time to resolve. This happens gradually as the Conscious You matures as a result of the experiences it has in the material world. This challenge is not fully resolved until the Conscious You attains personal Christhood, as described in my discourse on the levels of spiritual attainment.

As explained elsewhere,  the Conscious You creates a vehicle for expressing itself through a physical body. This 4-fold vehicle is what many people call the soul. Your soul can be traumatized from what some people call the original birth, but which was in reality the fall into a lower state of consciousness. This happened when the Conscious You stepped into the consciousness of separation and duality, whereafter it began to see itself as separated from the I AM Presence. This event did cause the Conscious You to feel abandoned by God, and this feeling then set certain basic parameters for the make-up of the separate self and the soul. However, the reality of the situation is that you were not abandoned by God. You turned away from God and the I AM Presence, and because God respects your free will, it could do nothing to interfere with your choice.

Once separated from God, it is possible that a lifestream can believe that it did not exist before this separation. Therefore, the lifestream might see the separation as its original birth. However, the separation from God was not the birth of the soul; it was the birth of the separate self or ego.

God created you uniquely but there is no competition and no sense of conflict between your I AM Presence and the I AM Presence of any other lifestream. The clash that occurs between many people is not a clash between their spiritual selves or even between their Conscious Yous. It is a clash between their human egos and the 4-fold vehicles or souls that are based on separation. To gain a deeper understanding of these concepts, read the second part of the book The Inner Path of Light. It explains in great detail the relationship between the soul and the human ego and how the soul can overcome the sense of abandonment and all sense of conflict by leaving behind the ego.

God created your lifestream as a unique facet in a beautiful diamond. Each facet is unique but it is also part of the diamond. Each facet enhances the whole, yet the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Therefore, the facet is complete only when it sees itself as being both unique and part of a larger whole. In other words, the differences between you and other lifestreams do not degrade or compete with your uniqueness. The fact that other lifestreams are different only enhances your uniqueness.

As long as a lifestream is connected to its I AM Presence, it can see itself as part of a larger whole without feeling threatened by differences. When the lifestream loses this connection, it no longer sees a connection between itself and other people, and that becomes the open door for the sense of competition and conflict.

God created your lifestream with unique characteristics because God wanted you to bring a gift to this universe that no other lifestream could possibly bring. You have the potential to be a co-creator with God here on earth and to bring a unique and uniquely precious gift to the forward movement of humankind.

I admit that once the lifestream has descended into a lower state of consciousness, individuality can pose a major challenge. Yet it is the sense of separation that creates the challenge, and by walking the spiritual path and attaining personal Christhood, a lifestream can reestablish its connection to the spiritual self. Thereby, you will begin to focus your attention on expressing your unique individuality and become less concerned about the actions and beliefs of other people. You will focus on being who you are, and you will let other people be who they are—or who they choose to be at the moment. You will be and let the. That is the key to peace of mind.

Your personal master

TOPICS: Your personal master – use tools for inner attunement –

Question: Thank you lord Jesus for being one of the greatest examples of the living Christ. I thank you Kim, and I acknowledge your spiritual dedication. I would like to know if the ascended master Kuthumi is my personal master, also what my mission is.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

There are certain things on the spiritual path that should be revealed from and inner source instead of an outer source. One of these things is the identity of your personal Master. It has been said that when the student is ready, the teacher appears. This is true, although the student doesn’t always recognize the teacher.

If you feel a strong inner connection to a particular ascended master, then it is most likely because that master is serving as your personal teacher, at least temporarily. Therefore, focus your attention on that Master and do not worry about whether it is your permanent Master.

Many people study under a certain Master for a period of time and then switch to another Master. After having gone from Master to Master for some time, you might eventually come to the clear recognition that a particular Master is your main Master. However, it is important that you come to this realization through an inner knowing, an intuitive experience. The reason being that when it comes from within, it will have a deeper meaning for you and it will be internalized in your being.

Several other people have asked about their mission and this is another example of knowledge that must come to you from within.

My goal for this website is to raise up those who are willing to walk the path to Christhood and become spiritually independent and self-sufficient by getting their personal directions from their Christ selves. I therefore hope you will understand why I do not give personal directions on this website. If I were to do so, people might look to me for answers, and therefore they would not manifest their independence. Because I am a true spiritual teacher, I would never prevent people from having their personal victories.

A balanced approach to life

TOPICS: Transcending relative extremes – taking heaven by force – non-attachment to outer results –

Question: Dear Jesus, I have often heard you speak about taking a balanced approach to life. As you described that Buddha chose the middle path between two extremes. I have even heard that many Buddhist monks make a journey on foot through some mountain terrain to reach enlightenment. If the are unable to finish the journey they then commit suicide. I find this to be extreme.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

The reason the Buddha stressed the middle way was that he realized that the relative extremes are not the true path to spiritual progress. As I have explained throughout this website, the dualistic mind causes people to become polarized towards one of two relative extremes. Many people do indeed waste all of their energy and attention on endeavors that do not contribute to their spiritual growth but simply contribute to maintaining an unbalanced state of mind. Therefore, the Buddha wanted to set forth the example that by consciously striving to avoid these relative extremes, a lifestream can make much swifter progress toward a higher state of consciousness. So it is indeed extremely important for all evolving lifestreams to strive for balance in their spiritual endeavors.

You mention lifestreams that set out on the spiritual journey and commit suicide because they cannot complete the journey. These lifestreams are not advanced lifestreams. They are, in fact, immature lifestreams who are trying to take heaven by force. They subscribe to the belief that by doing certain outer actions, they will automatically attain spiritual progress. So by taking their actions to the extreme, they should experience extremely quick progress. This is indeed what you see in some extremist religious groups whose rituals have no balance whatsoever. Such lifestreams ascribe to the belief in an automatic salvation. This is a fallacy. This is taking heaven by force. This is the way that seems right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of the death of the lifestream [Proverbs 16:25].

You see, the real key to spiritual progress is not outer rituals or outer accomplishments. The true road to spiritual progress is an inner path, and you will not attained a high level of spiritual consciousness until you become non-attached to outer results and practices. You must cultivate the non-attachment that the Buddha and I advocated.

Let me also say that once a lifestream has achieved a high degree of spiritual mastery, the lifestream does not necessarily have to remain balanced in all things. At that advanced level of consciousness, a lifestream can indeed engage in certain types of extreme behavior. Yet when the lifestream has reached Christ consciousness, such behavior will not cause a lifestream to lose its sense of harmony and balance. That is why you see some Masters who engage in behavior that would be too extreme for students at lower levels of the spiritual path.

Defend your spiritual awakening

TOPICS: Most people trapped in a prison of the mind – people in spiritual coma – defend your spiritual experiences – there are forces opposing your growth –

Question: Thank you, thank you, thank you. . . for creating this website and for writing the books. I am in the process of reading The Christ is Born in You. I feel my life changing within because the truths that have been revealed to me from these 2 places. I have been a mainline Christian from 20+ years and within the last couple of years or so have dissatisfied with the church in general because I have felt such hypocrisies and inconsistencies with the teachings from the church and the church people’s attitudes toward each other. It all just didn’t add up to what I felt you, Jesus, tried to teach 2000 years ago. So therefore, I have been on a spiritual search for some time now.

I now feel I have had a lot of my inner lifestream searching and questions answered by this website and reading the book. I fully see that I am a daughter of God (father/mother) and that I am a Christed one, that I have a Christ consciousness inside of me. However, I am a very young Christed one (spiritually); I am striving to develop my Christ consciousness ever so more deeply.
I just wanted to take some time to actually thank you, two. I know that I can thank Master Jesus in my inner self and I do and have, as I know He knows this, but I just wanted to do it openly and to also thank you, Kim, for being a willing vessel for the Master to use and speak through. Thank you very, very, very much.
The more I read the website and the book, the more I want to read; I can’t seem to get enough of it. Don’t want to put the book down. I have the other book, The Inner Path of Light and can’t wait to start that book either. I feel my spirit is truly being set free. I am 47 years old (young) and feel I am coming alive for the first time. Maybe I am actually being born again in a most true spiritual sense. Is this what it means to be born again, Master Jesus?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

My beloved heart, I can assure you that nothing warms a Master’s heart more than seeing a person go through the transformation that you have just described. This is truly the reward that we who are in heaven are looking for in our work with those of our brothers and sisters who are still on the earth. I truly wish that every human being on earth would go through the same transformation of being spiritually reborn.

You see, when you ascend to heaven, you lose the sense of division and competition so common on earth. You accept your true identity as a spiritual being, and you only want too see all of your unascended brothers and sisters accept their true identity as sons and daughters of God.

Despite the fact that so many Christians are attached to the idolatrous image of me as the only Son of God, I have no desire to be seen as an exception. I only desire all human beings to accept themselves as the sons and daughters of God they truly are. The Christian idolatry of me springs from the relativity of the dualistic mind, which gives rise to a sense of competition and exclusivity. Christians want to make me the only Son of God so that they can feel better than the members of other religions. Yet as you accept your Christhood, this sense of competition fades away and you can begin to follow my admonishment to love your neighbor as yourself. You eventually begin to see that your neighbor is a child of the same God who is your spiritual father/mother.

The sad reality of the situation on planet earth is that the vast majority of human beings are trapped in a spiritual, mental and emotional prison. They are so boxed in by erroneous beliefs about God and about themselves that they have literally become spiritually blind. Many of them do not even realize that there is a God or that life has a spiritual side. Therefore, they cannot formulate intelligent questions about God or about the spiritual side of life, and they go through life almost as in a coma, a spiritual coma.

As a spiritual teacher I am always hoping that people will wake up from this coma and realize that they are not mortal human beings but immortal spiritual beings. This is truly what I work for and what I have been working towards for thousands of years.

So I congratulate you with your spiritual awakening, and I encourage you to hold on to this awakening no matter what happens. In fact, I would like to issue a warning here that you be very careful and defend your spiritual rebirth against the onslaught of the forces of this world. You might see from the scriptures that my 40 days in the wilderness brought me to a new level of spiritual awakening. Immediately upon returning from the wilderness, I was tempted by the devil, which can be seen as a symbol for the forces, even the state of consciousness, that dominate this world.

The collective consciousness of humankind will work against your spiritual awakening because there will be people around you who do not want you to get ahead of them and do not want you to demonstrate that it is possible to awaken from the coma.

So I strongly encourage you to keep studying the teachings, including the teachings I have given about spiritual defense. It is very important that a spiritual seeker defends his or her progress on the path by using the proper tools for spiritual defense. However, the essential key is that you are aware that there are forces, including forces in your own psychology, that will work against your spiritual progress. Use the tools we have given elsewhere.

When you are aware of such forces, you can follow the admonishment to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves, and that is half the victory. It is an inescapable fact that you cannot defend yourself against an attack that you do not see coming. But as soon as you recognize the threat, you can immediately defend yourself.

Please do not let this warning dampen your enthusiasm for your new-found freedom. Simply be alert and aware and hold on to the sense of joy and enthusiasm. Also be aware that the joy does not come from the fact that you have found this website or the books. These are simply outer teachings, outer tools. The real joy comes to the fact that you have now made conscious contact with your personal Christ self and with me through that Christ self.

This is the connection that you need to maintain and expand. It is the connection to the inner teacher that is the essential key to spiritual growth and spiritual freedom. Hold fast to that connection, and do not let any of the forces of this world take away that connection. Let no force of this world take the crown of the inner connection to your Christ self.

Everything is a concept until it becomes an experience

TOPICS: First you see a concept, then you have the experience – using a concept to create a trail to the experience – using a concept to block the experience – people relate to everything as concepts – pure awareness is pure, the Conscious You is simply a name – you have limited yourself through concepts – the ego is also a concept and cannot be overcome at the level of concepts – creating a spiritual ego – pure awareness is the ultimate frame of reference –

Question: Jesus’, or perhaps this is Kim’s interjection, lists 19 Concepts on the November 16, 2010 posting. You describe the spheres and the Conscious You as concepts. This is confusing to me. Prior teachings lean toward changing the frame of reference intellectually and most importantly inwardly spiritually to use the world less and less as a point of conceptual measure and focus on the I AM within. Shakespeare said, ‘life is a stage.’ Is it not life in the material world that is the concept of the individual and the spiritual spheres and Conscious You are One’s truth and origin? Are you saying that our Creator’s sphere is a concept of his/her Creator’s?

So far, I have learned through You, that my true self is stationed in my Conscious You. If my Conscious You is a concept within the sphere, wow! Please clarify for me and others, whether we are more than conceptual free willed beings.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels: (December 1, 2010)

Everything is a concept until it becomes an experience.

You first relate to something by allowing it to enter your outer/conscious mind as a concept.

A concept is an idea that you hold in your mind. The idea relates to an object that you have not yet seen, yet the idea is not the same as the object.

For example, if you pick up a travel brochure for a remote vacation destination, what you get from the brochure is a concept about the destination. The concept may give you a desire to travel to the destination. Yet it is only when you actually go to the destination that the concept is replaced by a direct experience.

We in the ascended realm experience everything we are telling you about, but we cannot give you that experience. The only way to communicate with you – in your current state of consciousness – is to give you concepts. Our hope is that giving you the concepts will awaken in you the desire to have the direct experience.

The direct experience can be yours when you understand that the core of your being is pure awareness, which means you can project yourself into the spiritual realm—as you have projected yourself into your body and current life experience.

We have taught about the I AM Presence since the 1930s, but all we have ever given people has been concepts. Some students have used the concepts to create a “trail” in their minds, and the Conscious You has then followed that trail until it experienced oneness with the Presence.

Other students have not been willing to do this, so for them the I AM Presence remains simply a concept. The first group are relating to their I AM Presences directly through experience. The second group are not relating to their Presences; they are related to a mental image – a concept – of the Presence that they have created in their minds.

The danger of giving people on earth any concept about the spiritual realm is that they might use the concept to block the experience. However, that is simply the nature of the task we are facing.

You are all spiritual beings who are not trapped in or defined by any form. Yet in the here and now, you “are” what you think you are. This is because you have forgotten that you are pure awareness and have instead created a concept of who you are.

You are trapped in this “world” in which you relate to almost everything as concepts. So our only way to reach you is to give you more concepts—hoping that some of them will awaken in you the desire to experience more than concepts.

If you have not experienced pure awareness, then the Conscious You will simply be another concept. When you do experience pure awareness, you see that the Conscious You is simply a name. In a sense it is meaningless to assign a name to pure awareness because pure awareness cannot be accurately described by any name or concept—it can only be experienced. Yet as long as you are trapped in the world of mental concepts, well…

In terms of your last question:

Please clarify for me and others, whether we are more than conceptual free willed beings.

You are more than conceptual beings in the sense that you are beyond form. Yet you are the ones who have superimposed certain concepts of who you are upon the pure awareness that your I AM Presence extended into the material universe. Thus, you are the only one who can take yourself out of that self-image by once again experiencing pure awareness. As long as you have not reconnected to pure awareness, you are – for all practical purposes – no more than conceptual beings.

If you deal with your sense of identity at the level of concepts, you will simply create another concept. That is why we have given the “concept” of the Conscious You that is pure awareness and thus cannot be confined to any concept.

You see, after we started giving teachings on the ego, it became clear that many students attempted to overcome their egos at the level of concepts. But you see, the ego is simply a concept. So attempting to get rid of the concept of the ego by creating another – more spiritual or nice – concept will only cause the ego to morph into a new form.

That is why many people who have followed the spiritual path for decades are no closer to being ego-free. They have simply created a new ego that is very adept at appearing good or spiritual. Such people think this ego is so spiritual that it is sure to be allowed into heaven—but they are completely wrong. I described this in my parable about the wedding feast.

So the only way to truly overcome the ego is to find some frame of reference that is beyond the world of concepts in which the ego exists. And the only way to go beyond concepts is to make use of your ability to return to pure awareness, where you see that all of the concepts found on earth – all of the concepts that make up your ego – are simply unreal.

You also experience that the YOU that is pure awareness is indeed real and is an extension of the I AM Presence. And this is the only thing that will allow you to dis-indentify yourself from the ego.

There really is no other way, and although they have described it in different ways, mystics of all ages have experienced pure awareness and have used it to awaken themselves from the dream that a spiritual being could ever be trapped in or defined by form.

If you treat the Conscious You as another concept, it will only imprison you further. If you allow yourself to experience pure awareness, it can be your ultimate awakening.

As always, we can only give a tool and then set people free to choose how they will use it. That is why we continually seek to come up with new tools that say the same thing in a different way—hoping that each new expression will awaken more people.

“Signs from God” means your Christ self is trying to reach you

TOPICS: Do not interpret a sign – look for hidden message – using forms of divination to make decisions – many fail to hear their Christ selves – outer sign means Christ self trying to get your attention – do not interpret sign with outer mind; use intuition to go beyond outer mind – why divination limits you –

Question: Jesus, Is there such a thing as signs from God? If we notice what they call power animals in our lives, repeated noticing of certain numbers or in my case feathers, is this a confirmation of the right path? It seems to give me peace when a feather shows up in an unusual place.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Yes, there are indeed signs from God, and they can take many different forms. However, it is important to understand that the sign itself is not the message. Therefore, you will not get the message by seeking to interpret the sign itself, and this has confused many people throughout the ages.

You will see that some people get almost obsessed about looking for an outer sign and won’t make important decisions without having a sign. You will see that some cultures have taken this to an extreme, such as seeking to divine the will of the gods by reading the entrails of sacrificed animals. Even many modern spiritual seekers can go too far in terms of seeking to interpret astrology, tarot cards or outer signs with the analytical mind.

My point is that it is important to understand that the concept of signs from God has a built-in contradiction, and if you do not understand this, it is easy to misinterpret a sign or even create signs with your own mind. I have explained the tendency of the human mind to look for patterns elsewhere.

As I explain throughout this website, you have a Christ self that acts as your spiritual teacher. Most people cannot hear their Christ selves directly – although this ability can be developed – so they hear their Christ selves in the form of intuitive insights. Unfortunately, most people in the western world were not brought up with an understanding of the existence of the Christ self or the value of intuition. The consequence is that the Christ self finds it difficult to communicate with the conscious mind of the person.

Many people go through life and hardly ever get a message from their Christ selves, and this usually causes them to miss important opportunities for growth. Yet as a lifestream begins to awaken to the spiritual side of life, the lifestream becomes more sensitive. If a lifestream has not yet sharpened its intuition to the point of having clear contact with its Christ self, the Christ self can indeed seek to communicate with the person’s conscious mind through outer signs. Yet take note that the Christ self is always willing to give you a clear intuitive insight that does not rely on or need an outer sign.

My point is that if a person has a clear intuitive connection, the outer sign is unnecessary. The person’s conscious mind can receive the direction from the Christ self without any outer sign. Therefore, when you receive an outer sign, it is most likely because you have not yet developed your intuition to the point of hearing your Christ self directly. Your Christ self is therefore using an outer sign to get your attention.

Do you see the important distinction? Your Christ self is not actually trying to send you a message through the outer sign. It is trying to get your attention and make you aware that you need to use your intuition to tune in to your Christ self. Your Christ self is not using the sign to say, “Do this!” It is using the sign to say, “Wake up and listen to me in your heart, and that is where I will tell you what you need to know!” In many cases the directions you need are far too complex to be communicated through an outer sign.

The difference is essential because you now see that it is fruitless to try to interpret a sign with the outer, analytical mind or with your emotions. You will never be able to use the outer mind to get the message behind the sign. And here is the central problem. A sign is necessary because a person is too caught up in the analytical mind or is overwhelmed by negative emotions. Therefore, the Christ self cannot reach the person’s conscious mind directly. As an act of last resort, the Christ self seeks to give the person an outer sign that is noticed by the conscious mind. Yet it is so easy for the person’s overactive analytical mind or unbalanced emotions to take over and seek to interpret the message behind the sign. This has lead numerous people to misinterpret a sign and use it to justify what their intellects or emotions want to hear.

So if you are sensitive to signs, be aware of this tendency and seek to reach beyond the outer mind. And in the long term, use the tools I give on the toolbox website to build your attunement with your Christ self.

Take note that this teaching applies to all forms of divination. Your Christ self is always willing to tell you what you need to know, as long as you will tune in. Therefore, it truly is unnecessary to use any form of divination to uncover the will of God, or whatever people might be seeking to know.

As a transition phase, it can be valid to use some forms of divination to trigger intuitive insights. Yet you always need to be aware that there is no form of divination that can give correct results through the outer mind. Instead of seeking to sharpen your ability to use a form of divination, it would give far better results to put the same amount of effort into establishing a clear contact with your Christ self. Let a word to the wise be sufficient.

The relationship between the I AM Presence and the soul

TOPICS: I AM Presence is only a concept given to help people relate to the spiritual realm – Conscious You has free will and can deny its connection to its source – Conscious You acts based on its sense of identity – Conscious You a self-aware being – it can become self-sufficient, self-contained but only through Christ consciousness and the ascension –

Question: Dear Jesus, I have some questions about the relationship between the I AM Presence and the Soul. Many people today are aware and accept that they are spiritual beings, however, I would guess that most do not realize they are actually a creation and extension of an I AM Presence, not a creation directly of God. Is it fair to say that we humans are not actually spiritual beings, or rather, that we are not whole spiritual beings, but only a part of another spiritual being and we remain only that part until we achieve Christ consciousness? For a long time I believed that my true spiritual identity, the identity I forgot when I descended to the material realm, was my I AM Presence. I’m now beginning to think that my I AM Presence is not, in fact, my true identity. My true identity is my Soul identity which is a spiritual being, self-contained, self aware and one with God. Would it be incorrect to state that, in a sense, I am separate from my I AM Presence, at least in regards to my individuality?

When a Soul’s earthly lifetime ends and the Soul returns temporarily to the Spiritual Realm, awaiting reincarnation, what then is the relation between the Soul and the I AM Presence. I assume the Soul remains an individualized extension of the Presence, even though not incarnate. Does the Soul and the I AM Presence get together and talk about things face to face, so to speak? And what about when a Soul reaches full Christ consciousness? Can the Soul in some way shed its I AM Presence and become an I AM Presence unto itself, capable of creating its own Souls?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Let me comment on the points you raise:

“Many people today are aware and accept that they are spiritual beings, however, I would guess that most do not realize they are actually a creation and extension of an I AM Presence, not a creation directly of God.”

That is true. Yet the value of knowing that you are not created directly by the highest expression of God is that it is easier for the Conscious You to gain a sense of connection and oneness with the spiritual being that is right above it in the spiritual hierarchy. In other words, all spiritual beings are part of a hierarchy that reaches all the way back to God. Although this hierarchy has innumerable individual beings, they are not separated from God. They are individualizations of and extensions of God, but they do form a hierarchy that has many layers. So for your lifestream, it is far easier to relate to the I AM Presence out of which you sprang than to relate to the highest manifestation of God which is many levels above you.

This is why the ascended masters released the concept of the I AM Presence. When you consider that words are linear and the spiritual reality is spherical, you will see that no matter which concept we use to describe the spiritual reality, there is always an inherent danger. If people take our description literally, the description can become a hindrance to people’s understanding rather than being an aid to it.

My point is that the concept of an I AM Presence is just that: a concept. It is one way to describe the spiritual being out of which you came to life. It is not the only possible way, and it is not an absolute and unchangeable concept. One could as well say that your I AM Presence is actually a spiritual being. You are therefore an extension of, an individualization of, a spiritual being.

The problem with this concept is that because of the intense idolatry surrounding God and myself for thousands of years, most people will find it difficult to accept that they are extensions of an immortal spiritual being. That is why the ascended masters released the concept of the I AM Presence as a neutral way to help people relate to a being in the spiritual realm. For example, there are indeed people in embodiment today whose lifestreams were created out of a spiritual being, which we might call an I AM Presence, that has the status of an archangel. Yet how many people can accept that they are extensions of an archangel? How many people could accept that they are extensions of an ascended master, such as myself or Mother Mary?

“Is it fair to say that we humans are not actually spiritual beings, or rather, that we are not whole spiritual beings, but only a part of another spiritual being and we remain only that part until we achieve Christ consciousness?”

That is correct, and you have expressed it very eloquently. Although it must be added that because the Conscious You has free will, it has the potential to separate itself from the spiritual being that created it and therefore begin to see itself as being separated from that spiritual being.

One might say that because of free will there is the potential for a split in the Conscious You’s self-image and sense of reality. Nothing will change the fact that the Conscious You originated as an individualization of a spiritual being. Yet at the level of the Conscious You’s sense of self-awareness and identity, the Conscious You can create its own temporary reality. Because the Conscious You has free will, it will act according to how it perceives its own identity. In other words, if the Conscious You denies its spiritual source, then the Conscious You is no longer acting as an extension of that source. It has the potential to walk the path to Christ consciousness, and in so doing it will regain its connection to its source.

It is like my parable about the prodigal son (Luke 15:10). The son was lost in a strange country, so the father did not know if the son was still alive. He did not know if he had a son, and there was no guarantee that the son would ever return. One might say that for a time the son acted as if he had no father.

For a long time I believed that my true spiritual identity, the identity I forgot when I descended to the material realm, was my I AM Presence. I’m now beginning to think that my I AM Presence is not, in fact, my true identity.

This is where we run up against the limitations of words. In a sense you are correct, because, as I just said, the Conscious You is who it thinks it is. One can also say that the Conscious You has a sense of identity that is separate from the I AM Presence. That is why you can choose to build a sense of identity as a mortal being instead of an individualization of a spiritual being.

On the other hand, the Conscious You has no inherent individuality; it is an extension of the individuality of your I AM Presence. Your true spiritual individuality is permanently anchored and preserved in your Presence until you achieve full Christ consciousness. In other words, even when the Conscious You descends into a lower state of consciousness, your individuality is not lost or permanently altered. When you attain contact with your Christ self, you can reconnect to that true individuality, and you can then begin to build upon it based on your experiences in the material realm.

My point is that the Conscious You was created as an extension of the I AM Presence, and it was sent into the world with the command to multiply and take dominion. You are to take dominion over your own sense of self, over your physical body and the outer mind and over your personal circumstances. You are then to use that dominion to multiply your talents, to multiply the individuality given to you, so that you become more than you were created to be by your I AM Presence.

My true identity is my Soul identity which is a spiritual being, self-contained, self-aware and one with God.

Your statement is correct for a lifestream who has attained Christ consciousness. Until you attain Christ consciousness, the lifestream is not truly a spiritual being. The Conscious You is not self-contained and it will not feel complete until it reestablishes contact with the I AM Presence. The Conscious You is self-aware, but it does not have full or true self-awareness. Therefore, it cannot see itself as an extension of a hierarchy of spiritual beings reaching all the way back to God.

Would it be incorrect to state that, in a sense, I am separate from my I AM Presence, at least in regards to my individuality?

Again, this is where linear words cannot quite describe the reality of the situation. Let me attempt to use a metaphor.

A couple goes to the beach with their young child. They spread out a blanket and after they have eaten lunch, the child begins to move away from the parents and ends up digging in the sand close to the water’s edge. The child is an individual human being, yet the child is not separated from its parents and could not survive without them. The child does not feel that he is separated from the parents, because even though he is some distance away from them, he knows they are right there when he needs them. So although the child is a separate human being, he does not feel separated from his parents.

Now imagine that the child became caught up in playing in the sand and forgot about his parents for a few minutes. When he looked up, he discovered that the parents were gone and nowhere to be seen. At that moment, the child will feel a fear-based sense of separation from its parents. Yet if the parents had not disappeared, the child might never have developed this sense of separation.

Likewise, the Conscious You is meant to venture into the material world without ever developing a fear-based sense of separation from its spiritual source. It is meant to roam the material universe while feeling the security of knowing that its I AM Presence is always there for it. In the natural scheme of things, the Conscious You would remain in this childlike innocence and trust until it gradually attained a mature sense of self-awareness that enabled it to become a truly self-sufficient, self-contained spiritual being. This is what I call full Christhood, and in other religions it has been called other things, such as enlightenment.

The sense of being separated from the I AM Presence comes when the Conscious You identifies itself with the 4-fold vehicle that is has created based on the duality consciousness, as I explain in another answer.

This all depends on the state of consciousness of your 4-fold vehicle and how much the Conscious You identifies itself with the soul vehicle. Most people on earth have descended into such a low state of consciousness that they have lost the connection to and the memory of their I AM Presence. If the Conscious You is very identified with the 4-fold vehicle after it leaves embodiment, it cannot reach high enough to communicate with the I AM Presence. Some of these lifestreams go to etheric retreats, where they are assisted by spiritual teachers. Others end up in the mental or emotional levels between embodiments, as I explain elsewhere.

Yet it is true that between embodiments most lifestreams have a broader sense of awareness than they have while they are in a physical body. The Conscious You is no longer as restricted by the 4-fold vehicle or the outer mind and brain that are a product of the physical body. Therefore, many lifestreams do have a higher sense of awareness and understanding than while they were in embodiment. It is like the difference between looking at the landscape from inside a house, where you can look through only one window at a time, and standing on the roof of that house where you have a panoramic view.

And what about when a Soul reaches full Christ consciousness? Can the Soul in some way shed its I AM Presence and become an I AM Presence unto itself, capable of creating its own Souls?

When the Conscious You reaches full Christ consciousness, it becomes a self-contained spiritual being that radiates light directly from inside itself. In other words, before the Conscious You attains Christ consciousness it can exist only because it receives spiritual energy from the I AM Presence. That energy is truly God’s light and it is not produced by the I AM Presence. The Presence simply serves as a conduit through which the light of God streams from the universal source. Yet because the Conscious You has not become self-sufficient, it cannot absorb the light from its source. Therefore, it must receive that light from the Presence.

When the Conscious You attains full Christ consciousness, it realizes that because it is an extension of the I AM Presence and because the I AM Presence is an extension of the universal source, the Conscious You can call upon the light of God directly from the source. At that point it becomes an immortal spiritual being, just as its I AM Presence is an immortal spiritual being. The immortalized or ascended being can then create a Conscious You out of itself.

This does not mean that the Conscious You technically sheds its I AM Presence. It means that the Conscious You becomes a spiritual being in the chain of hierarchy, and the I AM Presence is right above the Conscious You in that hierarchy.

Always remember the difference between trying to understand something with your outer mind and understanding it with the multidimensional mind of Christ. So the real key to understanding these issues is to let this mind be in you, which was also in me. You will then be able to understand and internalize what cannot adequately be expressed in words.

Why did lifestreams take embodiment?

TOPICS: You were created to co-create – this is not a form of temporary insanity – only separation is insanity – co-creation is the highest form of joy – you will know it when you reconnect to your I AM Presence –

Question: In your answer to another question, you explained that rescue is a reason for some I AM’s to send soul’s into this world. The original souls, though, didn’t have that reason. There seems to be an unexplainable reason why originally a soul would be attracted to and prefer the material world, the dualistic consciousness and a separate and limited identity. A Course in Miracles seems to leave it as an illusory/temporary insanity. ACIM, and I think you on this site, have also indicated that only souls that had that mad concept of separation come here to earth to heal that mistake. If so, is it the I AM that has that idea and so is a reason why it creates souls to experience the illusion of separation? In yesterday’s answer you mention the other common theme I encounter, that we are co-creating and experiencing from within matter, I guess just for the sake of it. Those, from my perspective, don’t seem to have been worth the risk (somewhat humorously meant).

Thank you again, and Ro, whose question yesterday inspired me that these questions can be formulated and asked.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

It is not difficult to explain why the original lifestreams chose to descend to planet earth. Before the Fall of Man, this planet was an incredibly beautiful and harmonious platform for growth. The lifestream was born out of the desire of the I AM Presence to become more than it was, and this desire is born out of love, which is the very love that caused the Creator itself to create this universe. There is nothing illusory about this, and it was not the result of a temporary insanity. It was the result of the very force that drives creation.

One might say that the gradual process that caused the lifestream to fall into a lower state of consciousness, and therefore build a sense of identity as being separated from the I AM Presence, was and is the result of an illusion and a form of temporary insanity. One might also say that lifestreams are here on earth – on the imperfect planet they have helped create – in order to overcome that insanity and heal the mistake.

So the I AM Presence did not create lifestream because it wanted to experience the sense of separation. The lifestream was never created to be separated from the I AM Presence; it was created to continually grow in awareness until it attained the full God consciousness and saw itself as one with, yet as an individualization of, the I AM Presence.

When God started the process of creation, there was nothing but God. So God created everything out of its own substance and Being. Without him was not anything made that was made. So in order to create anything that had form, the Creator had to take a part of its unlimited Being and “imprison” it in a limited form. When God created self-conscious beings, it embedded a part of its own Being and consciousness within them. That is why they have the potential to self-transcend and attain full God-awareness. Only in doing so, they do not simply merge back into the all and are erased—as some religions claim. Instead, they win full God awareness as individual, God-free beings who have the same creative powers as the God who created them. This is the ongoing chain of creation, and I described in when I said, “Ye are Gods.”

When the lifestream is in alignment with its I AM Presence, it is not simply co-creating for the sake of it. It is co-creating for the joy and the love of being a part of God’s magnificent plan and expressing its individuality and creative abilities. I can assure you that the true feeling of co-creation is the highest form of what so many people call bliss, yet it is beyond what any human being can experience as bliss.

I can understand that while people are burdened by their own past choices, they might feel like it wasn’t worth the risk. Yet as soon as you start climbing the spiritual path and reconnect to your I AM Presence, you know with absolute certainty that it was well worth the risk. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. “The trek upward is always worth the inconvenience,” as one of my beloved colleagues is fond of saying.

The difference between the Holy Christ Self and the I AM Presence

TOPICS: Your spiritual individuality – your God flame has a crystalline structure – forgetting your spiritual origin – the role of the Christ self – direct communion with your I AM Presence – being the Presence – oneness higher than communion –

Question: When working on inner vision/communion, how does one know the difference between the Holy Christ Self and the I AM Presence? I understand that the Christ Self is the mediator between our lower self and our I AM Presence. Some refer to the Christ Self as the higher self. Is this correct, and if so, what would we call the I AM Presence, the God-self? Would you please give me a greater understanding of these two terms/concepts?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

It would be correct to call your Christ self for the higher self and your I AM Presence for the God self or the spiritual self.

When your spiritual parents created your lifestream, they created your I AM Presence. This is the part of you that anchors the unique individuality with which you were endowed by your spiritual parents. It is called the I AM Presence because it anchors your individuality and makes you who you are.

Your I AM Presence can be viewed as a spiritual flame, but it is more like an electronic fire than a normal fire. Your God flame has a unique structure that is similar to a crystal, only it is not made from matter but from vibrating, pulsating energy. When the pure light of God shines through the crystalline structure of your God flame, it is shaped and colored by your unique individuality. This does not degrade the light of God; it simply individualizes that light.

Your I AM Presence is constantly anchored in the higher levels of the spiritual realm. From the level of your I AM Presence, you can experience the lower realms, including the material world, as an outside observer. However, most lifestreams created by God are not content to simply observe life from the outside. They want to experience life from the inside as well. In fact, that is why the Creator created individualizations of itself. God wants to experience its creation from the inside, God wants to take part in its creation and expanded it from the inside. God does so through its sons and daughters.

At some point, your I AM Presence decided that it wanted to descend into a lower level of God’s creation and experience life at that level. To do this, the Presence created an extension of itself, which is what we call the Conscious You. The Conscious You then created what many people call the soul, but which I prefer to call the 4-fold vehicle or soul vehicle. It is this vehicle that allows the Conscious You to interact with the physical body.

Many lifestreams descended to the lower spiritual realms and still abide there. However, a number of courageous lifestreams decided to descend into the lowest realm created by God, namely the material universe. When you enter the material realm, you enter a realm of lower vibrations than the spiritual realm. In the spiritual realm it is easy to see that everything originated from a higher reality. Because the material realm is the latest part of God’s creation, it has not yet been raised to a level of vibration where is possible to see material energy as an extension of God. Therefore, when the lifestream descends into the material realm, it runs the risk of forgetting it spiritual origin.

A lifestream in the material realm can remember it spiritual origin only through a direct inner experience, because there is little in the outside world that reminds the lifestream of the spiritual reality behind material appearances. This experience can happen only when the Conscious You steps outside the 4-fold vehicle and directly experiences itself as pure awareness, thus realizing you are not the lower vehicle.

As explain throughout this website, many lifestreams did indeed descend into a lower state of consciousness in which they have forgotten their spiritual origin. To prevent these lifestreams from becoming lost, the ascended masters have sent each lifestream a mediator, a teacher, a comforter, namely the Christ self. Your Christ self can be seen as an angel who is assigned to help you regain your conscious contact with your I AM Presence. In other words, your Christ self was not originally part of your lifestream. It is a helper that comes to you from outside yourself, and this being has a personality and individuality that is different from the individuality anchored in your I AM Presence. Obviously, your Christ self is compatible with your individuality, but it is not identical with it.

When you begin to attain inner communion, you will first attain communion with your Christ self. In the beginning, you will experience this in the form of intuitive insights. This will often come as a sense that something you read in a book is correct and applies to you. As your communion becomes clearer, you will eventually hear or sense the still small voice of your Christ self within your heart. This is not a physical voice, an audible voice, but an inner voice. Yet you will still recognize it as a voice that speaks to you from somewhere outside your conscious mind.

As you grow on the spiritual path, you can go through the process of the alchemical marriage, whereby you attain spiritual union with your Christ self. Yet that Christ self is still separate from you, just as your marriage partner is different from yourself even though you can attain a great sense of union with your spouse.

You Christ self can give you directions from itself, or it can pass on directions from your I AM Presence. One might say that your Christ self acts as a translator for the directions from your Presence that your outer mind cannot hear or understand directly. So as you sharpen your attunement, you might be able to identify a direction from your Christ self and a direction from your Presence. This can give you the sense that you are hearing the voice of your Presence.

As you move to higher levels of the path, you can eventually attain direct communion with your I AM Presence. Many people have attained some communion with the Presence, but most people fail to recognize it for what it is. One reason is that it is easy to identify the voice of your Christ self because it comes to you as a voice from outside yourself. Communion with your I AM Presence is not a voice speaking to you from outside yourself. The reason being that your I AM Presence is not outside of or different from yourself. It is yourself. It is your Self.

One might say that you cannot receive communication directly from your I AM Presence because communication implies distance. To make contact with the Presence, you must surrender and overcome the mortal sense of identity. You give up the outer personality that has been created during your many embodiments in the material universe. You overcome the sense of separation so that you begin to identify with the Presence. Therefore, your Presence can now act through you. You are literally being the Presence in action in this world. Therefore, you can say, as I did, “I and my Father are one.” When you achieve this oneness, you are not technically communicating with the Presence—you are being the Presence.

One might say that when your Christ self gives you a direction, you experience it as coming from an outside source. You therefore have a decision to make as to whether you will heed the voice. The impulses from your I AM Presence do not come from an outside source, and therefore there is no room to make a decision. One might say that while there is a space between you and your Christ self, there is no space between you and your I AM Presence. You cannot decide to follow the voice of your I AM Presence, you can either be or not be your I AM Presence in action. To be the Presence in action, you must surrender the will of the ego and outer personality to the higher will of your God self. You must decide to be who you really are instead of who your outer mind thinks you are.

I realize this is difficult to understand intellectually, and the reason is that the intellect always thinks in linear terms. Therefore, it wants to see a separation or distance between your lifestream and your I AM Presence. As long as you think in linear terms and think in terms of separation, you will find it difficulty to commune with your I AM Presence. You need to think in different terms and see that your lifestream is not somehow separated spatially from your Presence. Your lifestream is more like a wave which is not separated from the ocean but is simply a manifestation of the ocean.

Higher self or Holy Spirit?

TOPICS: Two aspects of your being – your basic challenge – the Christ self – expanding contact with your I AM Presence – use our tools but do not be rigid –

Question: What is the Silent Observer that hovers over thy person that seems separate from thy being yet is the totality of thy being. Is this the Higher Self or the outpicturing of the Holy Spirit? How can one retrieve this living experience that has been lost or seems hidden?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

This is a very poetic description of a spiritual experience that many sincere seekers have had and that all sincere seekers should strive for. Every religion or spiritual philosophy aims to describe this experience, and there are many ways to express this experience in words. Let me offer just one of many possible expressions of this experience.

As explained elsewhere,  your being is an individualization of God’s being. You were created in the image and likeness of God, meaning that your spiritual parents individualized themselves as your I AM Presence. However, God has two aspects, as outpictured in the Taoist symbol of the Tai-Chi. Your I AM Presence forms the masculine or Yang polarity of your lifestream, and the Conscious You forms the feminine or Yin polarity.

Your I AM Presence is made of energies of a very high vibration, much higher than the energies of the material universe. Therefore, your I AM Presence cannot descend into the material universe. What descends into this universe is the Conscious You, and to do so the Conscious You takes on the outer garments of the lower self and the physical body. However, the challenge for the Conscious You is to maintain its contact to the I AM Presence while it is immersed in the dense energies of the material universe.

If the Conscious You descends below the 48th level of consciousness, LINK it  can maintain this contact only through another aspect of your being, namely what many spiritual teachings call the higher self. I would like to call this part of your being for the Christ Self, because I was sent to you to show you that every human being has the potential to unite with that Christ Self even while residing in a physical body.

The key to any kind of spiritual experience is to go within and seek to gain contact with your Christ Self. Most people have some degree of contact with this self, and it is commonly called intuition. However, as you expand the contact with your Christ Self, it is possible to experience your I AM Presence. In the beginning, the I AM Presence will seem like a silent observer. However, as you expand this contact, you might “hear” your Christ self or I AM Presence speak to you in the form of words, thoughts, images or even a vibration.

Your I AM Presence is an individualization of the greater Being which humans call God. It is possible to have a direct experience of God’s Being. This has happened to many spiritual people throughout the ages. It has even happened spontaneously to some people who did not consider themselves to be spiritual people.

Therefore, the term “silent observer” can refer to both your personal I AM Presence, the individualization of God, and the greater being of God.

How can one retrieve this experience? By increasing your intuition and thereby increasing your conscious contact to your Christ self. As you begin to increase this contact, and begin to shift your sense of identity away from the dualistic mind and towards the Christ mind, you will have an increased contact with your spiritual self.

What are the practical steps towards this goal? Basically, every true spiritual philosophy or system is aimed at achieving this goal. Use your intuition, the technique for attunement, the invocations and the decrees we have released.

Use a system or technique diligently for some time. When you feel the time is right, seek inner direction to see if you need to find a higher system or refine your practice of your present system. Do not become rigid and fall into the trap of thinking that if only you keep applying a certain technique or system for the rest of your life, you will automatically be saved. The purpose of any system should be to increase your connection to your Christ self so you can receive a living, progressive revelation of your personal path to God.

Your Christ self is a comforter that can appear in a vision

TOPICS: Comfort is always offered – some people reject comfort – some want to continue feeling powerless to change – angels and masters give comfort – your Christ self is the comforter –

Question: In times of grief, do we get comfort from the spiritual realm in visions? Do you appear in various ways or does help come from specific beings assigned to that?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Every human being is a unique individual, so not everyone is open to a vision from the spiritual realm. In fact, some people do not truly want to be comforted during a crises because they want to continue to feel like a victim or to feel sorry for themselves. Thus they reject the comfort that is always offered from the spiritual realm. No person is ever left comfortless, but as with any other gift from Above, comfort is subject to the free will of the individual.

To receive comfort, you must open your mind and hear to it. Some people will not do this because they want to remain in a state of mind in which they feel powerless to change their circumstances. Comfort from above is different from human sympathy. The ascended masters are dedicated to helping people transcend their limitations. So when we comfort someone, we seek to empower the person to change the situation for the better. If people are not willing to change, we must leave them alone.

There are certainly many people who do receive comfort from spiritual visions or from other forms of communion with the spiritual realm. There is indeed a band of angels, called the Holy Comforters, who are assigned specifically to comfort people in times of grief and crisis. However, if a particular lifestream has a strong spiritual tie to a master, such as myself, that master might indeed appear and comfort the lifestream. I have personally appeared many times to lifestreams who prayed or called to me in times of grief.

Your Christ self is also a comforter that can appear in a vision, and it often takes on the appearance of Christ because it is an individualization of the universal Christ consciousness. In fact, it was your Christ self that I spoke about when I promised my disciples to send them a comforter [for example in John 14:16]. Many Christians interpret this comforter to be the Holy Spirit. And while it is the energy of the Holy Spirit that brings comfort, that energy must flow through the open door of the Christ self, which is an individual being assigned to help you grow.

How the ego can use a spiritual teaching to stop your progress

TOPICS: Many think they are open-minded, but they are closed to a higher understanding – the path has stages – at one level you need certainty – you must deal with contradictions in order to go beyond that level – fear or intellectual reasoning – discerning between truth and dualistic doctrines – feeling threatened by a higher understanding – at level of words, contradictions can always be found – if it agrees with the ego, it is true; if not, it is false – recognizing Christ and then wanting him to fit into the mental box of the ego – too rigid or too scattered – giving your ego a spiritual education – some contradictions can be resolved only through a mystical experience – words cannot bring resolution – learning to read vibrations – masters use Zen koans to confuse the ego –

Question: Can you please comment on why so many spiritual seekers find a certain teaching or guru and then use this new teaching to close their minds to anything else? I mean, I found my first spiritual teaching because I was searching. I left that teaching when I suddenly realized “but now I am not searching anymore.” So I decided to open my mind to something new and soon found a teaching that could answer many questions that the old teaching could not answer. So why do so many seekers stay in a certain mental box for years or decades, when they clearly are not growing from it but only feeling they are “holier than thou” because they have such a high teaching or advanced guru.

I have especially noticed that some people are very focused on contradictions. If they see something that contradicts their present beliefs, they will immediately reject an entire teaching, using it as an excuse to cling to what they have. Or if they see a contradiction in their existing teaching, they will refuse to consider it instead of seeking for a higher understanding. Can you suggest a better way to deal with contradictions?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

One of the greatest problems we face as spiritual teachers is that so many people are deceive by their egos into closing their minds to a higher understanding of some aspect of the spiritual path. And I am not hereby talking about people who openly reject religion. You will see people who have been on the spiritual path for decades and who think they are very open-minded. Yet they have certain viewpoints, certain beliefs, that they think are beyond questioning, so it becomes impossible for us to give these people a higher understanding of those particular issues. Such people are simply not willing to let us “disturb” them with a higher understanding. This is explained in greater detail in another answer.

As I explain throughout this website, the spiritual path is a gradual process. Many people start out in a traditional religion, which claims that an outer doctrine presents an absolute, infallible or unquestionable truth. They gradually open their minds to something beyond the doctrines of their (former) church, but many retain the belief that in order to evaluate the validity of a spiritual teaching, it is necessary to compare it to a particular doctrine or philosophy. Even many New Age people accept one particular teaching as the authoritative source, and they compare any new teaching to it. At the beginning stages of the path, this is necessary because the lifestream needs a foundation. However, there will come a point when, in order to make further progress, the student needs to transcend this approach.

The reason is that when you evaluate a new teaching by comparing it to an old teaching, it is very easy to base your evaluation on the words or a particular interpretation of those words. This can block your acceptance of higher concepts that go beyond the old teaching—and the entire idea behind progressive revelation is that we continually release higher concepts.

As I explain in the answer mentioned above and in the book Beyond Religious Conflict, words are inherently relative, and no absolute truth can be expressed in words. The consequence is that if your understanding of a spiritual teaching does not go beyond the level of the words, you will inevitably find contradictions between different teachings, which is one of the major causes of religious conflict. It was precisely the mindset of basing all beliefs on the outer word that caused the scribes and the Pharisees to reject me and my new teaching.

When you look only at the words, you will often find contradictions within a single spiritual teaching. Take for example the following statements made by me:

  • He that is not against us is for us. (Luke 9:50)
  • He that is not with me is against me. (Matthew 12:30)

To the analytical mind, these statements are contradictory, and the conflict can be resolved only by going beyond the words and considering the context in which each statement was made. The problem is that many people are not open to such a higher understanding:

  • Some people approach the spiritual path based on feelings, often fear. They reason that if two statements are contradictory, one must be true and the other false.
  • Some people approach the path intellectually, and they often reason for or against an issue without finding an absolute answer.

Both groups of people close their minds to the fact that there is an absolute truth but that this truth cannot be confined to words. If people are trapped in fear, they tend to become very judgmental toward any teaching beyond their chosen one. A perfect example is how the scribes and Pharisees deliberately sought to find contradictions in my teachings or between my teachings and the old law.

If people are stuck in the intellect, they often reason that there is no absolute truth or that they cannot know such a truth (and they cannot know truth through the intellect). Thus, they tend to see any teaching as being as valid as any other teaching, meaning that they can pick the one that appeals to them. They can become judgmental toward anyone who states that there is a truth beyond what the intellect can detect.

The problem with both approaches is that they are based on a refusal to discern between God’s truth and man-made – dualistic – doctrines. This often makes people feel threatened by a higher understanding than what they currently accept. In order to avoid being disturbed, they often go into a defensive frame of mind that makes them judgmental toward new ideas. As a way to justify staying in their present belief system, some people deliberately look for ways to reject new ideas, including looking for contradictions in the teaching or between the new teaching and the person’s preferred teaching.

When a person is deliberately looking for contradictions and is only looking at the words, contradictions can always be found. The reason being, as I also explain in the previously mentioned answer, that words belong in the realm of duality. When a mind is stuck in duality, it decides what should be true and then judges every new idea based on that decision. Thus, such people are no longer looking for a higher understanding; they are only looking for confirmation of what they have decided must be true. They are no longer approaching the path with the innocent and inquisitive mind of a little child, and thus they cannot enter the kingdom of true knowledge.

Instead, the person has now formed a belief system in the outer mind, a belief system influenced by, perhaps completely based on, dualistic thinking. Because such a belief system is relative, the person can always interpret a teaching or situation in such a way that it seems like the person or his/her belief system is right. The ego can always control people in this state of mind because it can so easily make them believe in ideas that block their growth.

For example, the ego will reason that if I say something through a given messenger that agrees with the person’s belief system, then it is the real Jesus speaking. Yet if I say something that is not in agreement, then the ego says I cannot possibly be the real Jesus. You see this in many fundamentalist Christians who reject my website because I say things that contradict their literal interpretation of the Bible. Sadly, even many New Age people reason the same way—they simply have a different dualistic belief system as their reference point.

Many people keep looking for a teaching or messenger until they find one that says what their egos want to hear, rather than saying what their lifestreams need to hear in order to transcend the ego. They somehow reason that they know better than the ascended masters what we should or should not say. An extreme example of this mindset is found in the following passage,

21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (Matthew, Chapter 16)

Although Peter recognized the Christ, he was not willing to let go of his dualistic ideas about how a Christed being should live or die. Thus, I could merely lead him to the well; I could not get him to drink my Living Waters.

It remains a fact that if you are not willing to be disturbed by a spiritual teacher, you are not truly on the spiritual path. You are following the way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death (Proverbs 14:12). That is why I called the scribes and Pharisees for hypocrites; they thought they were the most pious and religious people, yet their minds were closed to the Living Truth.

At an even deeper level, it is a fact that when most people find the spiritual path, they are still partly in the duality consciousness. Thus, they will inevitably be in a state of consciousness that attracts the dualistic opposites. With that I mean that many people are open to progressive revelation, but they fall into one of the two extremes of either accepting only one teaching as valid or accepting all teachings as equally valid. Either way, they will be targets for false teachers, who will seek to manipulate them to either close their minds to new ideas or open their minds to any new idea, including false ideas. People then tend to become either too rigid or too scattered and confused.

Even if you find a teaching that is truly from the ascended masters, your ego will still use your dualistic beliefs to distort your view of that teaching. As you become more familiar with the teaching, your ego is also educated in the concepts and lingo used by the teaching. Thus, your ego and any external false teachers can actually use a true teaching to slow down your growth by causing you to close your mind. The only way to avoid this is to constantly be open to being disturbed by your Christ self and the ascended masters, which means that you are willing to let a new idea take you beyond your comfortable beliefs. If you are not willing to be disturbed, you will turn even a true teaching into a mental prison.

When you come up higher on the path, you can completely transcend the level of duality, and thus false teachers and false teachings will no longer be a threat to you. The prince of this world will come and have nothing in you. How can a person rise above duality? It is captured in my statement,

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

In the spiritual realm, there are no contradictions. Thus, when a person reaches beyond duality, reaches for the Spirit of Truth (which is the person’s Christ self), all seeming contradictions will be resolved. Yet in some cases, the contradictions between two outer teachings cannot be resolved in a way that can be expressed in words. The resolution can be experienced in a nonverbal, nonlinear way that cannot be translated into words.

In the end, the validity of a spiritual teaching can be determined only by reading the vibration of the message—not by reading the words. You can learn to read vibrations by developing a conscious relationship with your Christ self. When you have contact with your Christ self – with the Spirit of Truth – you can compare the vibration of an outer teaching to the vibration of your Christ self, and this is the ultimate measure of truth. In some cases you might even sense the validity of a teaching even though your outer mind does not agree with the words used.

When you have contact with your Christ self, you will not fall into the trap of comparing new ideas to a fixed doctrine and you will not judge the people bringing forth such ideas. Your approach to new ideas will be love-based, instead of being based on fear, judgment or a sense of being threatened—which leads to anger. Thus, when a person points out a seeming contradiction, it is always valid to read the person’s vibration and see whether it is based on love or other emotions. If the person is not coming from love, there is often little hope of helping the person reach resolution, and thus further discussion is best avoided. I often said, “Let those who have ears hear,” because some people simply do not have ears to hear a higher expression of truth.

Finally, let me say that it is not uncommon for the ascended masters to deliberately make certain statements that will seem contradictory for people who are trapped in the consciousness of duality. This is the principle used in Zen koans of confounding the analytical mind, and you will see that I often employed it 2,000 years ago. I use it occasionally on this website, although I generally seek to give a very straightforward explanation.

The bottom line is that all contradictions spring from the consciousness of duality. Contradictions are like beauty; they exist only in the eye of the beholder. They can be resolved only by transcending duality through oneness with the Spirit of Truth. Likewise, spiritual safety can be found only by transcending duality. The least spiritually safe are those who in their pride think they know it all and who are not willing to be disturbed by a spiritual teacher. Woe unto ye lawyers . . .

At some point, you will have to break the pact your ego has made with the devil

TOPICS: Consider why you see things a certain way and what that says about your psychology – all seekers need to deal with concept of a devil – you must deal with your view of dark forces in order to be free of them – 99% of all people influenced by dark forces – being aware of dark forces without giving them energy – why the New Age movement has not fulfilled its potential – how can you see the atrocities in the world and still deny the existence of dark forces? – divine love challenges imperfections in order to set people free – some New Age people are as judgmental as fundamentalist Christians – the duality consciousness and the ego – the ego causes people to define their own “absolute” truth – perversion of the father and the mother – some people judge Jesus as being unloving when he does not live up to their ego-based standard – do you resonate with true love? – being loving in a human way will not get you to heaven – judgment stands till whereas divine love seeks to transform – talk versus walk – denial of dark forces springs from fear, not love – at some point, you can make no further progress without overcoming dark forces – overcoming your pact with the devil – if you don’t seek Christhood, the devil will leave you alone – when your seek to rise to a new level, you will be challenged – Jesus will give you understanding, but you need to supply the will to overcome the ego –

Question: Dear Jesus, Why is it that there is so much focus on the Devil, which I choose not to believe in, and on dark forces on this website? Why not bring the message of focusing on the light, the love and joy? We certainly could use more of that! I have read much channeled material from many “New Age” books and tapes that want to focus on the light and positive energy, the information given rarely talks about “negative energy”. Why is that? I thought whatever you focus your attention on you create, so if we read about dark energies, wont we create this in our lives ? Ever since I have been visiting this website, I have sensed negative spirits hanging around me, did I create this by reading about it on this website or is it what you say that it is dark energies trying to keep me from GOD. Perhaps I’m naive in thinking everything is hunky dory over here? The information on this website is different from what I have read from the “New Age” books and tapes, it has thrown me for a loop. That’s all I’ve got to say for now. Thank you God for this information even if my ego doesn’t like it.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

Being willing to let a spiritual teaching “throw you for a loop” is an essential character trait of a true spiritual seeker. Being willing to ask for clarification – instead of outright rejecting what conflicts your existing beliefs – is equally essential.

I ask you to begin by considering that this is a very large and very complex website. Many people would disagree with your assessment that the focus is on the devil and dark forces. Some of them would say that the focus is on bringing light and love. So consider why you look at this website and see a focus on dark forces? As a true spiritual seeker, you should consider that everything you encounter carries a potential message and an opportunity to learn. So it was not a coincidence that you found this website at this point in time. Could it be because you are at the point on your personal path, where you need to deal with dark forces in order to rise above their influence over your life?

You see, spiritual growth is all about rising above human illusions. So whether the devil is real or not, it is inescapable for a true spiritual seeker that you deal with the concept of a devil. You need to get to a point of resolution where even the concept has no hold on your mind. And by running away from or ignoring the concept of a devil, you will not free yourself from it. You will only remain trapped in whatever concept of the devil you hold in your mind—even if you hold the concept that the devil does not exist. Only when the mental concept is replaced by inner knowledge, will you have risen above all illusions.

From my perspective, the focus on this website is on personal Christhood. And in order to manifest personal Christhood, it is inevitable that you must deal with dark forces. If you do not deal with them, you cannot overcome the dualistic lies that give them power over your mind. And thus, you cannot reach the stage where you can say, “The prince of this world cometh and has nothing in me!” And, quite frankly, if the prince of this world – meaning the consciousness of duality, the consciousness of anti-christ – has something in you, you cannot possibly manifest your Christhood.

You say, “Ever since I have been visiting this website, I have sensed negative spirits hanging around me, did I create this by reading about it on this website.” Have you considered the possibility that dark forces have always been “hanging around you” but that you simply were not aware of this before you found this website? It was not long ago that scientists discovered bacteria and realized they could cause disease. Did scientists create bacteria through their discovery, or have they always been around?

The brutal fact is that 99% of the people on this planet are negatively affected by dark forces. The saying that “what you don’t know can’t hurt you” did not come from the ascended masters, so guess who inspired it? As the discovery of bacteria proves, what you don’t know about can indeed hurt you. And thus you face the choice of whether you will continue to allow your spiritual growth to be limited by dark forces or whether you will “take the devil by the horns” and raise yourself above the influence of dark forces.

You say, “whatever you focus your attention on you create, so if we read about dark energies, wont we create this in our lives?” This is an understandable question, but on this website I am not asking you to focus on dark forces and give them energy. I am asking you to be aware of how they influence you, so that you can free yourself from them. You know bacteria exist, but you are not allowing this knowledge to consume your life. You simply take the necessary precautions to avoid an infection and live happily in the knowledge that bacteria cannot harm you when you are protected.

I am quite aware that many New Age teachings focus on bringing, light, love and joy. Let me make it very clear that the ascended masters consider New Age people among our best potential for bringing about a large-scale spiritual awakening on this planet. The reason is that most of these people are open to the need to bring forth new spiritual teachings in this age, which unfortunately is not the case for most Christians. However, it is a fact that currently the potential of the New Age movement is just that; a potential rather than a reality, as I explain elsewhere. One of the main reasons is that too many New Age people refuse to do the “dirty work” and only want to deal with what is pleasant, comfortable and easy.

A young child naturally plays in the dirt and then sticks its fingers in its mouth. As a responsible adult, you try to discourage this because you know about harmful bacteria that can make the child sick or even kill it. Small children are not able to understand the concept of bacteria, so adults use other methods to prevent a child from sticking its fingers in the mouth. These methods can limit the natural development of the child and instill various forms of fear. Would a person with a typical New Age attitude say that we should not curb the child’s tendency to play but should simply let them eat dirt, and if it kills them, that is just part of life? This, of course, would not be a responsible reaction.

It is completely unfathomable to me that people can live in today’s world and look at the atrocities committed by human beings and at the same time deny the existence of dark forces and the fact that they can influence, even possess, human beings. How can you possibly look at child molesters and serial killers and think that a benevolent God created people with the propensity to commit such acts? How can you possibly believe that if we ignore evil and focus on light and love, people will one day wake up and be perfect? Why do you think I challenged the powers that be, including casting out evil spirits, instead of telling my disciples to just love everybody?

What I did tell my disciples to do was to respond to every situation with love—meaning divine love. I demonstrated what divine love means, but unfortunately many people in the New Age community have not understood the nature of divine love. They have created a graven image, a golden calf, of what they want love to be like, yet what they dance around is a form of human love that is always gentle and thus never challenges any imperfections, including dark forces and people’s egos. The simple fact is that if you are not willing to look for the beam in your own eye – to challenge your own ego – you don’t want anyone else to do so either. Thus, you create the standard that a true spiritual leader should be “loving” and never challenge anyone’s ego. Yet if a spiritual teacher is not challenging your ego, how can he help you overcome that ego?

Divine love is the basic force of creation, and thus it is the most powerful force of the universe. Divine love is what gave your Creator the drive to create, because it impelled the Creator to become more through creating you. Thus, the very nature of divine love is that it wants everything to become more; it never wants to leave anyone or anything in an imperfect or limited state. Thus, if you are not willing to challenge dark forces, people’s egos or the imperfections in human society, you are not centered in divine love. How can the Golden Age – that many New Age people correctly envision – possibly be manifest unless we first clean up the mess on this planet? And how can we clean up the mess until a critical mass of people decide that there are certain things they simply will not tolerate on this planet, as I explain elsewhere?

The brutal fact is that many people in the New Age community are not fulfilling their true potential to be a positive force for change on this planet. And the reason is that they have not risen above the very same state of consciousness in which so many orthodox and fundamentalist Christians are trapped, namely the tendency to judge everything based on a human, dualistic, fear-based standard.

I constantly see Christians who find this website, but as soon as they see me talking about anything beyond the Bible – or their interpretation of the Bible – they say I could not possibly be the real Jesus. I constantly see New Age people who find this website, but as soon as they see me being challenging or talking about anything beyond their image of love, they say that I could not possibly be the real Jesus. The reactions of these two groups of people are essentially the same, only from opposite directions. Allow me to explain.

The essential message of this website is that the vast majority of human beings are trapped in the duality consciousness, the consciousness of anti-christ. This consciousness is based on a sense of separation from God, which creates a basic duality that makes people believe God is not where they are. As I explain elsewhere, the duality is defined by two relative opposites, such as good and evil. The problem here is that the duality consciousness comes up with its own definitions of good and evil, and both definitions are out of alignment with the reality of God, which you can know only through the Christ consciousness. The Christ consciousness is the ”only begotten son of the father” because it is the consciousness of being one with God and God’s truth.

The effect of the duality consciousness is the creation of the human ego, which, by its very nature, judges everything according to a dualistic standard, a standard that is based on the “things of this world” rather than the truth of Christ. That is why religious people can believe it is justified in the eyes of God to kill those who oppose their (only true) religion. Quite frankly, if you have not seen or if you deny this tendency for people to define “truth” to suit their ego-needs, you have not seriously started walking the spiritual path.

As Mother Mary explains, everything is created by the expanding force of the Father and the contracting force of the Mother. My point is that the fundamentalist Christians have taken the tendency to judge into one extreme, namely a perversion of the Father. They say that anything which is not in compliance with a literal interpretation of the Bible is of the devil and they see it as their duty to eradicate it. This is what caused the crusades, the inquisition and other atrocities perpetrated by those who claim to be my followers but have not been willing to embody my teachings.

Many New Age people have taken the tendency to judge into the opposite extreme by perverting the Mother. They have created a false image of love as being gentle and never challenging anything, including, of course, their own egos. They believe that as long as they never challenge any imperfections, and in fact ignore anything not positive or pleasant, they will be saved and they will raise the planet. Likewise, the Christians believe that as long as they ignore or run away from the devil, they will be saved and bring the kingdom of God to earth.

I trust the more perceptive seekers can see that this is essentially the same reaction taken into the two relative extremes defined by the duality consciousness. Whether you say everything not in the Bible is of the devil or say there is no devil, you are refusing to reach for the mind of Christ that will empower you to discern between Christ truth and dualistic lies. My point is that many New Age people think that because they are always being gentle, they are not being as judgmental as fundamentalist Christians. Yet the New Age people are just as judgmental, they have simply adopted a different standard, namely human love, as the standard by which they judge everyone and everything.

So when they come across this website, and run into my fiery divine love – that will not let anyone stay trapped in their illusions – they immediately judge me, my words and my vibration. If I do not live up to their standard of being “loving,” I cannot be the real Jesus and they “don’t sense the love” or think this cannot be a divinely inspired message. Well, you don’t sense the divine love because you have allowed the flame of divine love in your heart to be replaced by a golden calf of human love. There is nothing in you that resonates with my divine love, and thus I cannot reach you as I could not reach the scribes and Pharisees. They too thought they knew everything but they had only intellectual knowledge and “had no truth in them.”

There are indeed many people in the New Age field who have studied a variety of teachings. They have understood much on an intellectual level, and they have adopted an attitude of being “loving” toward everyone. Therefore, they can come across as being very knowledgeable and very loving, so how could they possibly be wrong? Well, my friend, there were many Jews who reasoned the same way 2,000 years ago when I challenged the scribes, the Pharisees and other hypocrites who believed they knew everything yet had not been willing to look at the beam in their own eyes and challenge their egos.

These people were doing everything right according to the outer religion, as many New Age people today are doing everything right according to their own, dualistic, standard. Yet if you look behind the surface, you will see the subtle judgment of anyone or anything that does not live up to their standard. You will see the rigidity of the mind and the unwillingness to admit that their beliefs are not infallible. This simply is “the way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

Why is it the way of death? Because death is still stand, whereas life – love – is a process of never-ending self-transcendence. Divine love never judges—but it always seeks to transform. Judgment seeks to impose a dualistic image upon others, even seeking to make the entire universe live up to a dualistic image. Once the judgment is passed, the person is often unwilling to reconsider and revise the judgment—as is evidenced by the people who reject this website on the first occurrence of a statement with which they disagree. In contrast, divine love never holds any fixed image of anyone. It sees only the vision of Christ and it sees everything and everyone in a process of constant self-transcendence. Thus, both fundamentalist Christians – who will not transcend their interpretation of the Bible – and New Age people – who will not transcend their image of love – are trapped in the consciousness of death.

Take note that the spiritual path is a vertical process. Some people think they can climb it by acquiring outer, intellectual, horizontal knowledge, but it is not so. If you talk the talk without walking the walk, you are getting nowhere, even though you may manage to convince yourself and others that you are very advanced—according to your own, dualistic standard.

Let me be completely frank with you. There are people who do not need to concern themselves with dark forces. There can be two main reasons for this:

  • One is that they are still at the lower stages of the spiritual path. Therefore, they have not yet reached the level where they need to confront dark forces. This does not mean that they are not influenced by such forces, it means that they are not yet strong enough to tackle them.
  • The other possibility is that people have risen above the stage of being influenced by dark forces. Yet anyone who has truly risen to that level, will never deny the existence of dark forces nor the need for spiritual seekers to rise above them.

People who deny that dark forces exist or tell everyone they don’t have to deal with them, demonstrate that they have not truly overcome dark forces. They are either operating from ignorance or they are deliberately seeking to deceive people.

The simple fact is that the best weapon in the devil’s toolkit is ignorance. If you don’t know about or accept the existence of dark forces, it is as difficult to escape their influence as it is to avoid infectious diseases when you don’t know about bacteria. Deliberately ignoring something is a fear-based reaction that springs from the fear that you cannot protect yourself from a danger. Yet what we do on our websites is to give people the understanding and the practical tools they need in order to protect themselves from dark forces—until they have overcome the dualistic beliefs that make them vulnerable to dark forces. Thus, if you are willing to acquire the understanding and willing to use the tools, you can recognize the existence of dark forces without fear.

The basic fact is that there will come a point on your spiritual path where you can make no further progress until you overcome the dark forces – meaning the dark spirits without and the ego within – that are seeking to prevent you from manifesting Christhood. The brutal fact is – and this is why I have chosen to answer this question at this time – that the human ego is based on a pact with the devil, with the duality consciousness. And in order for you to rise to the higher stages of the spiritual path – and manifest your Christhood – you have to consciously and deliberately break your personal pact with the devil. Take note that you cannot “consciously and deliberately” break this pact as long as you ignore or deny the existence of the devil. He loves nothing more than people who choose not to believe in him, because they automatically deny their potential to rise above the consciousness of anti-christ (which is the true meaning of the devil) and manifest Christhood.

Many spiritual and religious people on this planet think they are doing all the right things, but they have actually put their spiritual growth on hold because they have made a pact with the devil. Obviously, these people do not consciously realize that they have made such a pact, and many of them made that pact many lifetimes ago. Nevertheless, the brutal fact is that they have made the pact that if they do not rise beyond a certain level of the path – if they do not truly manifest their Christhood (by challenging their own egos) or express that Christhood (by challenging the consciousness of anti-christ wherever it is found) – the devil and all dark forces will leave them alone. And truly, when you do not seek to become the Christ, the devil will leave you alone because you are no threat to him or his control over planet earth. You can thus focus on bringing light and love, making yourself believe you are a truly spiritual person without realizing that your spirituality is contained in a very small box.

This is the real reason so many people – both fundamentalist Christians and New Age people – feel they are not bothered by dark forces. It is a false sense of security that keeps them trapped in a small box that gives the devil control over their lives. And this is the real reason you will “attract” such forces when you try to go beyond the boundaries defined in your pact with the devil. As soon as you try to break out of the cage defined by this pact, the dark forces will rush in to challenge you in any way they can. This can be through fear or it can be through the very subtle deception of making you accept a false image of love. These forces will use any means possible to prevent you from stepping out of the mold and reaching for your Christhood—the prince of this world will use whatever he has in you.

The key to overcoming them is to realize that they have no power over you except what you give them through your free will. Yet to overcome dark forces, you must use your free will consciously. Many people have given away their power to make conscious choices by ignoring the existence of dark forces and their own egos. This only keeps you trapped behind a veil of illusions, and you will not break free of it until you take back your conscious will and start making enlightened choices, choices based on the discernment of the Christ mind that separates the lie from the truth.

Unfortunately, many people refuse to do this and cling to a man-made (or even a devil-made) definition of truth, be it a literal interpretation of the Bible or a New Age definition of love. This is worshiping a graven image, and although it might make you feel good and make you believe you are saved, it will do nothing to raise you above the dualistic illusions. And escaping these illusions is the only road to salvation, a higher state of consciousness, enlightenment, or whatever you want to call it.

You need both understanding and a firm will to overcome your ego and the external forces seeking to keep you trapped. I will provide you with the understanding on this website, but you need to supply the will power. I am not in the business of making choices for you—I leave that to the devil who will gladly take over your free will, even without you knowing what is happening.

My point for this long discourse is simple. I make no excuse whatsoever for the fact that I talk about many things on this website that are challenging to both traditional Christians and New Age people. It is my goal to assist anyone who is ready to move on to the higher stages of the spiritual path by giving people the understanding and the tools they need. This website is not for those who want to remain in whatever illusion makes them feel comfortable. This website is for those who are willing to break the pact their egos have made with the devil and reach for the Christ consciousness—thereby taking the only true way out of the dualistic illusions that spring from the consciousness of anti-christ.

When I walked the earth 2,000 years ago I said, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Today, I am here to make sure that anyone who is willing to look beyond duality can find the “strait and narrow” way that leads to Christ consciousness.

I have already shown you the beginning stages of that path on my website and will continue to reveal more of it. Yet your job is to realize that I cannot take you beyond the prison of the ego without challenging both the illusions of the ego and the lies of the devil that keep you in that prison. If you are not willing to let me challenge your beliefs, you have a right to stay where your ego is comfortable (because it knows it has you under control).

Yet consider one of the laws that guide spiritual growth: “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” The fact that you have found this website means that you are ready to make use of what it offers and take yourself to an entirely new level of the spiritual path. The only question is whether your outer mind is willing to acknowledge the inner reality and act accordingly. Thus, I consider that all who read this message seriously consider what pact their egos have made with the devil. Ask myself or your Christ self to reveal that pact to you and then make the effort to break it once and for all.
