Wise approach to AI

Question: Talk to us about artificial intelligence, which is reshaping the world at a dizzying speed. People often say it is simply the next evolution of our technologies, from books to radios, TV to social media. But the nature of this feels categorically different. Never before did we all have all the world’s knowledge in every pocket. Of course, knowledge and wisdom are not the same. But the latest AI models do an uncannily convincing job, conveying human-like empathy, insight, compassion, even if it is not experiencing the underlying emotion itself. What is the wise way to relate to these tools? First, I am asking personally, because the more I use them, the more I sense a subtle siphoning of my own ability to trust itself. Even sensing Claude in the next tab, as I write this email, makes me wonder whether I should have it polish my grammar or complete my sentence. I also ask because I have young kids who will never know a world without these tools. The only thing that surprises them is when AI cannot do something. How should we encourage young people to relate to these non-sentient but seemingly all-knowing beings? And I ask out of concern for the broader world. We are locked in an arms race between companies and countries where the incentives are speed and profit. It is a one-way ratchet and everything is accelerating without regard for so many unforeseeable implications on human hearts, minds and relationships and on the environment.

Answer from the Ascended Master Saint Germain through Kim Michaels.  This answer was given during the 2025 USA Conference.

Well, there is much to say about AI, so I cannot cover everything in an answer like this. But what I will say is that you have to be very clear as a spiritual student that AI is not a being. It is a machine. It is not sentient. It is not conscious. It will never become conscious. This is not the same as your Christ self or a spiritual teacher. You can rely on AI to do certain practical things. But if you begin to trust AI more than your own discernment, then you are in danger of losing your way on the spiritual path.

AI will never become a substitute for the spiritual path. AI cannot walk the path for you or serve as a substitute for a genuine spiritual teacher or for increasing your Christ discernment. AI does not have Christ discernment. Why? Because it does not have a Conscious You that is an extension of the I AM Presence. AI is created by human beings who are trapped in separation and duality, have no awareness of the spiritual path other than what they can read out there. And you cannot program Christhood into a machine. You can imitate it based on outer criteria. But if we take what Jesus said in his dictation before this session, you will see that this is precisely taking the things of this world, using them to create an image, projecting it upon Christ. That is what AI can do. And it can do it faster than most human beings. And it can incorporate more knowledge. You have the old concept of the Turing test, where if a computer can interact with a human being in such a way that a human being cannot tell, is it a computer or a person, then they say the computer has passed the Turing test.

Yes, but my beloved, look at most human beings on earth. Is it difficult to fool them? If it was, how could the fallen beings have fooled people for so long? They are, in a certain sense, a fallen being is a computer. It has forgotten or denied its self-awareness. It is not able to contact the Christ mind. It could, if it was willing to turn around but while it is in the fallen consciousness, it cannot contact the Christ mind. It takes the things of this world, the things that be of men, and projects it upon everything, including the spiritual path and Christhood. And a computer can do the same. But it can never do what your Christ self and your ascended teachers can do, or what other people who have attained a higher degree of Christhood than you have can do. It is very important to distinguish this when you are a spiritual student.

You cannot use AI as a substitute for genuine spiritual guidance and for your own Christ discernment. Of course, it is a useful tool in terms of gathering information. But as people become more and more aware of what AI can do and cannot do, people will begin to see the limitations.

Right now, there is this naive enthusiasm in some people that AI will solve our problems, or the equally naive fear in others that it will destroy society. And neither will be the case. And that is because there are some insurmountable obstacles or limitations that AI can never move beyond. How can a group of computer programmers program into AI Christ consciousness when they have not attained Christ consciousness? They cannot program something higher than their level of consciousness. But even if they had the Christ consciousness, they could not program it into a computer for reasons that Jesus explained. And if you had Christ consciousness, you would not attempt to program it into a computer because it is only the dualistic separate mind that wants to create this ultimate tool that can deal with every problem.

AI is an extension of this age-old dream of the fallen beings to create something in this world that is equal to God. Or science’s quest for the theory of everything. There is something in this world that is equal to God, and that is you, the Conscious You, which has the potential to unite with the I AM Presence, which is an extension of the Creator’s being. To think that you can create something like this mechanically is just a complete illusion.

It is clear that AI will gradually become more and more used, but people will also begin to see the limitations of AI. Much of the rhetoric and thinking about AI is similar to what was said about the Internet. There is this hope, and there is the fear. And some people are in the hope camp, and others are in the fear camp. And they always project upon some new technology. This is just technology. Technology is mechanical. It will always be mechanical. It will never be sentient. Regardless of what they say in Terminator or Star Wars or Star Trek, you cannot build a humanoid that is self-aware.

You can build something that imitates the low level of self-awareness that most people have. And you could build a robot that was so human-like that it might be able to fool people who did not have Christ discernment. But a person who has Christ discernment would instantly or very shortly sense that this is not a human being.

In terms of what to do with your children, well, first of all, make an effort to overcome both the naive hope and the naive fear and just see AI as a tool, and then pass that on to your children. It is clear that AI will be more developed and will be more integrated. There were people who were afraid of giving their children computers decades ago. They were afraid of letting their children watch television. When you go further back, people were afraid of books. People are always afraid of something new, and other people have the hope. But the hope for the world is you, people who manifest Christhood and become truly self-aware.
