Why do we need to let the selves die (instead of loving them)?

Question: I feel confused about how one should let the separate selves of the ego die once the corresponding illusion has been identified. What about all the healing work we have been taught to do – such as forgiveness, comforting the inner child and accepting, even loving the darkest parts of ourselves. That is what I have been invited to do all of my life in my quest for healing my wounds. And now that I am a therapist myself, I was trained to actually deal with the separate selves with respect – acknowledging their basic good intention and never trying to make them go, and even when I try to let them go, they resist it very hard. Is it an illusion to try and influence a positive transformation of a separate self? What should one do with a separate self that keeps emitting a lot of negative energy even after acknowledging that its basic belief is an illusion and acknowledging that this sub-personality is not the real self? How should a good therapist process the separate selves of people and their wounds?

Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2023 Easter Webinar.

Well, you say you have been told to love the separate selves and not ask them to go, but you have not been told this by the ascended masters. If you really pay attention and read our books carefully, you will see that we are not telling you to try and deal with a self the same way as they tell you to deal with your inner child. Basically, the inner child is, of course, a self, but we have never told you to love the self or to work with the self and not make it go.

I have given a teaching where there comes a point where you have worked with your psychology, seeking to overcome the ego, where there is nothing left but loving the ego. But that is a different thing and if you read this carefully, you will see the difference.

The thing is, what we are basically saying is this: The core of your identity, the core of your soul as some people say it, is the Conscious You. The Conscious You has created the selves for various reasons but you have not become the selves. The selves have no independent existence, they cannot exist without you feeding them energy and upholding the illusion. The profound aspect of this teaching is that a self always projects that there is some kind of problem that you need to solve. What we have said is: You do not need to solve the problem, you just need to see that this is a self, it is based on illusion and it is not you. Then, instead of solving an outer problem, you are letting the self die. Because it is the self that is projecting that there is a problem and how you should look at it and how you should solve it. If you are focusing on a self – whether you call it an inner child or something else – and giving it your intention, not wanting it to go away, what are you doing? You are keeping it alive by feeding it energy over your attention. The question is, do you want to get rid of it, or do you want to keep it around? If you want to keep or get rid of it, that is your free will. But we have given you the tools and the teachings for how to overcome these selves.

And you can say that: “I have seen through the illusion that a self is based on.” But there is a difference between intellectually seeing an illusion and actually really seeing it in a holistic intuitive way. It is the old story that if you are holding something and you think it is a rope, then you will hold onto it. But if you suddenly see it is a snake, you do not have to go through a long reasoning process to decide to let go of the snake, you just spontaneously let it go. So the moment that you truly see an illusion, you let go of the illusion. And if you have done the work of using decrees and invocations to transform the energy that is accumulated in the self, you can also let go of the self. Why keep around the self that is based on illusion when you see that the illusion limits you?

Again, you have to be careful in any endeavor, but especially as a therapist that you are always looking at: “What is my background, where am I coming from?” And then you are asking yourself: “Does my background limit me? Does it limit my own ability to grow? Does it limit my ability to help other people?” And especially when you have found ascended master teachings, you need to consider whether your background is based on a certain approach that actually limits what you can do both for yourself and others. That is why we give these teachings to help people overcome these limitations that you have been brought up with, that you have been educated with, and therefore you have taken them on and you think this is the only way to do it.

The inner child teaching is a valid enough technique for people at a certain level, but when you come to a higher level, you need to see that the inner child needs to go. Why would you as an adult drag along with you an inner child that was created at the age of five? Why would you need that as an adult?

You need to recognize here that when you are on the spiritual path, when you are on the path to Christhood, it is a matter of letting go of all of the things that tie you to earth. They need to go. They just need to go if you are to make progress. Now in the context of what we are talking about at this conference, there are many people – and it is not just therapists, but there are many people – who have been educated in some profession and who may have an accomplishment in their profession, they have grasped what the profession is all about and applied it, but they have been crucified by their profession. Because their profession is based on a certain approach, which today is often the materialist approach, and they because of that, have a certain way of defining a problem, looking at a problem and defining where and how you can look for solutions. And this crucifies you: It prevents you from helping yourself, but it especially prevents you from helping other people. You need to take yourself down from the cross of your profession, then you can take your healing work to a higher level.
