Time vs. River of Life

Question: According to the masters we create through our Conscious You, making use of our conceptual mind, creating an image, projecting it into the Ma-ter light filling it with mental and emotional energy and acting upon it. We only can do this within a series of moments. We need time to be able to think, feel or do anything. Everything we do, even everything we are is directly related to this continuum of moments we are used to call time. However, what really is this moment now and the next and the next and so on? The moment of now is everywhere in this universe, now as well as all awareness is everywhere now. Is there a relation between consciousness and this continuum of nows in a way that it could be said that time is actually consciousness?

Answer from the Ascended Master Saint Germain through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2024 Easter webinar.

Well you are asking some questions that have rather complex answers but if we want to simplify it we can say that the concept of a now as related to the concept of past and future is really a division that exists only in the mind.

What is what you call the string of nows? Well, it is actually what we have called the River of Life—the forward progressive movement created by all beings who are raising their consciousness. So what happens is, when you go into separation especially, you cannot flow with this flow because you see yourself as a separate being separated from the flow. This gives rise in your mind to this division where you are at the lower level, you are only thinking in terms of past and future. Most people are not aware of a now. They are not even thinking in terms of the now. So they are either thinking about their past or thinking about the future. Either regretting what happened in the past or trying to analyze what happened or what should not have happened or they are fearing for the future or perhaps even looking forward to the future. But it is always this or that. They are rarely centered in the moment, rarely enjoying the moment.

Now you have these teachings that have come out from various sources of “now”, the importance of now or the power of now. And it is not that these teachings cannot be helpful in a certain way. But the problem is that most people simply cannot really apply these teachings and cannot really relate to them because again they have so many separate selves that pull them into the past or the future. There can be separate selves that are always regretting what happened in the past, separate selves that are always looking forward to something better in the future or looking to the future with dread and fear. These will be pulling most people out of focusing in the now.

And really we could say from a certain perspective is there any point in focusing on the now? Because which now are you going to focus on? It would seem, would it not, that the moment you focus on your mind on focusing on the present now, time has already moved on, so there is a new now. So, now you can be chasing the now all of the time. But of course, really what is meant with these teachings about the now is to come to a point where you are not pulled by the past or the future and therefore, you can experience a certain stillness. However, telling people to focus on the now without helping them resolve the separate selves that are pulling them towards past or future is not particularly helpful for most people.

That is why we have given these teachings on resolving the selves. And when you resolve certain selves then you can come to that point where you are not pulled towards the past or the future. It does not really mean that you should focus on the now as most people will see the now as a moment in time, in other words a certain still stand. It is almost like many people when they hear about the now they think it means stopping the clock. But of course this cannot be done, you cannot stop time. But what you can do is you can go within, be still and flow with the River of Life. In other words instead of being pulled towards a time that is no longer there or pulled towards the time that is not there yet or being focused on a time that supposedly stands still in the now, you can transcend the focus on time and focus on the flow, the River of Life. And this we have given many teachings and tools for achieving including of course our conference in Kazakhstan where we talked about flowing with the River of Life, but many other teachings we have given throughout the years including resolving the selves.
