Question: The masters have said before that they will give teachings on the lost continents we have. We have Atlantis, but I am confused about the Mu and the Lemuria continents. Are they the same one, or one of them is in the Pacific and the other in the Indian Ocean? If they had advanced civilizations, why did they sink? Why can they have advanced technology when the inhabitants have not transcended their low level of the collective consciousness?
Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2026 Kazakhstan Conference.
You need to recognize, first of all, that our teachings are based on progressive revelation. As we have said many times, we adapt a specific teaching to a specific group of people at a certain level of consciousness. The teachings about lost continents were given in previous decades, still in the Piscean Age, where people were very interested in the past. Of course, you can say: “Many people today are still interested in the past.” But still, there has been a shift. We gave teachings back then about these lost continents as we gave teachings, for example, about the prophecies of Nostradamus and other prophecies to attract people’s attention.
You can ask yourself a simple question here. Let’s say: “There was an advanced civilization 10,000 years ago or 70,000 years ago. What practical value does it have for me personally on my personal path to know this?” And you will find that the answer is: very little, personally. Now, you may still gain some value in understanding why a civilization disappeared, because it could have relevance to the current civilization, but still, if you look at your personal path, how important is it to know about these past civilizations?
This is one concern. The other is the question of how can a civilization have advanced technology when the inhabitants have not transcended their low level of consciousness? And this actually has an impact on present civilization.
You need to understand here, as we have explained, you can go from the 48th level to the 96th level of consciousness and on to the 144th. And by doing this, you are raising your level of consciousness. But raising your level of consciousness is not the same as acquiring knowledge of the material, physical world. And most spiritual people find that they need to focus on spiritual growth rather than mastering the physical world. What you see, as we have also explained, is that if you do not pass the initiation at the 96th level of giving up the self-focused self, you will continue to expand upon and seek validation for that self. And this can cause you to then go towards lower levels of consciousness. But in that process, you can still acquire greater and greater understanding of how the material world works. You can see that there are some fallen beings even, who are far below the 48th level, but they have a great understanding of the physical universe, even of human psychology, even of certain spiritual ideas and concepts, which is why they can become false gurus parading their wares before the unexpecting crowd. But there are also those who have used their certain mastery to gain power in the world or produce some technology that can give them power.
What I am pointing out here is that in these past civilizations, there was a lack of balance between what we have called the top 10%, mainly avatars and the bottom 10%, mainly fallen beings. The fallen beings had used their knowledge of the material world to create advanced technology that even with today’s technology you would call advanced. And this had given the people the idea that: “If they followed these fallen beings, well, it would be heaven on earth.” And therefore, the people had ignored the top 10% and the potential to raise your consciousness towards higher levels. But of course, everything the fallen beings do from the duality consciousness creates an imbalance. Even as a civilization is developing more and more advanced technology, it will at the same time develop greater and greater imbalance in the emotional, mental and identity levels. It seems like the civilization is doing very well at the physical level, but it is really a colossus built on clay feet because it does not have a solid foundation. And that is why there can come this point where the imbalance becomes so great that the entire structure starts falling over like the Leaning Tower of Pisa or the Tower of Babel. It cannot anymore sustain its own weight and there is a collapse. It might take the place or take the form of war. It might be natural disasters or a combination of both. But this is, really, the important lesson to take away from this is that there is a possibility of developing advanced physical technology without having the corresponding level of higher awareness.
You can see that this presents quite a dilemma for the ascended masters because what we have explained is that we made a calculated decision, a calculated risk, by releasing nuclear technology while knowing that humankind had not reached the level of awareness where they would only use it peacefully. But we made that determination based on realizing that if that had not been released, there would have been an almost continuous string of conventional wars that would have been fought with more and more powerful conventional weapons. And by releasing the technology for nuclear weapons, that most people can see would lead to the destruction of whatever civilization used it, even the destruction of civilization as a whole, we put a lid on this development towards more and more powerful conventional wars.
It is not a given that a nuclear war will not happen even though the further we move along the less the probability becomes, and it is already fairly small. It is not something we are projecting, that this will happen. But you see how in past civilizations there was not that proper balance between people who had developed higher levels of awareness and people who were trapped in selfishness. That balance is better today partly because we have released ascended master teachings but also because many other spiritual people have raised their awareness by following other teachings, many of which were, of course, inspired by us even though we did not directly make ourselves known through those teachings.
