Question: I suddenly saw a belief today: “I should have known better”, and realized that this is the belief that keeps me trapped in the mortal sense of self. Can you explain and share deeper an understanding of how the decision I made when I separated from my teacher and therefore started to identify with the mortal self and the primal self relate or do not relate to each other?
Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2023 American webinar.
Well, I would recommend that you read Maitreya’s book Master Keys to Spiritual Freedom and consider what he says about why you left the spiritual teacher and then use your intuition to see what it is in your specific case. Most people have their own individual reason for doing this, but it is very true that you could say that many people left the spiritual teacher because they thought they knew better than the teacher what they needed to go through. It is not the case for all but it is the case for many. When you come to see this and see the (we might say) unrealistic aspect of this belief you can then come to swing to the opposite extreme and feel, “I should have known better”.
But do you see how these two actually relate to each other or at least form a dualistic polarity? You have the belief: “I know better” therefore I am going to go my own way. When you see that this is not working you are saying: “Oh I should have known better.” But you still think you know better because you think you should have known better. You see how this is the serpentine mind, the duality consciousness, subtle but inconsistent. In the mind of Christ, you made a choice. You have now come to see the limitations of that choice. Then you seek oneness with the Christ mind. Instead of blaming yourself that you should have known better, you are realizing: “But I experimented. Now I have seen the outcome of it. Now I want to go higher. I want to lock in to the Christ vision or the Christ consciousness that can help me see this illusion, transcend it and rise to the next level up.” That is how you use the Christ mind. The Christ mind does not say: “You should have known better.” This can only be a separate dualistic self or the fallen beings who are projecting this at you.
“You should not have known better.” You did what you did based on your level of consciousness at the time. You could not know better given your level of consciousness. You experimented, now you have seen the result of it. Now, you have the opportunity to know better. But you cannot know better with the outer mind, with the separate selves. You can only know better by locking in to the Christ mind and truly seeing the illusion that caused you to make that choice.
