Retirement planning for spiritual people

Question: Seeking a balanced perspective on financial retirement planning for spiritual people. Many spiritual people seem to believe that wealth follows practice, leading many to neglect retirement planning. As I approach my 50s in Korea, I feel the need to invest heavily in my future, even if it means living a tighter life now. My question is this: “Is preparing for old age in this way a manifestation of fear-based living, or is it a necessary and responsible part of a grounded spiritual life?” I would appreciate your advice on how to maintain a constructive and spiritual mindset while navigating these practical financial demands.

Well, it is a very common attitude among some spiritual people that you set aside practical considerations, having this idea that God will take care of us, the masters will take care of us, if we strive to raise our consciousness or give service to the ascended masters, they will somehow manifest a miracle in our lives. This, however, is not something that we have ever stated or encouraged.

We always encourage people to be practical: “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s and unto God that which is God’s.” If you live in a country where there is no public retirement, or if you feel that you want a higher standard than what public retirement allows you to have, you need to take whatever practical measures you can take, given your situation. We are encouraging our students to be practical about things, this of course will seem contradictory to this messenger who has not had a career and does not have a retirement plan. There are of course always exceptions, but in general, take the practical measures you can take and think ahead.
