Resisting learning through hard knocks

Question: I seem to have this feeling of being afraid of hard knocks coming to me because I seem to not yet be learning what I need to learn. What is the master habit behind it? How do I make sense of this and transcend it?

Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary. This answer was given during the 2025 Holland Conference.

Well, the unwillingness or the reluctance to experience hard knocks is simply because you still have a subconscious self. That was created in reaction to a very traumatic event. And we have explained before that when you received your original birth trauma, this was very shocking to you because you did not expect it, you really had no frame of reference at an experiential level of how difficult it would be on earth.

The contrast between your expectation and what actually happened was very big and that was part of why the trauma became so intense. You had, as Kuan Yin explained, a certain idea of what should or should not happen to you as an avatar coming to earth. When something happened that you thought should not have happened, it was very shocking to you. And if you have not resolved such a self, then you still carry with you that sense that this was too much, this was overwhelming for you. And you do not want to be overwhelmed again and therefore, you are reluctant to experience another situation like that. But as we have explained before, you could actually never have as severe of a trauma as your original birth trauma because now that you have been wounded once, there will not be the same contrast as there was when you were, so to speak, innocent. Of course, in order to overcome it, you need to look for the self that was wounded. You can also work on switching your approach by realizing that your fear is actually irrational because it never could be as hard of a knock as it was originally.
