Is there a clear explanation for dreams?

No, there is not a single clear explanation for dreams. Many dreams are just produced by the brain, processes in the brain that are constantly going on. It is just that while your attention is focused on the waking state and the outer activities you are engaged in, you are not tuned in to this brain activity. When you go to sleep you become more aware of this, whatever awareness you have in the sleeping state. But a lot of dreams are simply random. That is why I am saying there is no clear explanation for it. Because it is just random firings of the neurons in the brain that are translated into visual images in the visual cortex. There is no clear cause-effect explanation. It is just in most cases random.

But there are of course dreams that are often called lucid dreams that can be where you in the sleeping state, instead of having your attention drawn to the brain, your attention is drawn beyond the brain and therefore, you are contacting your Christ Self, your I AM Presence, the ascended masters and you are receiving a message through a dream that you could not receive in your waking state because you are too focused on outer activities or thinking or your emotions. There can be a message coming through, but when it comes through in a dream it is again filtered through your four lower bodies and therefore, can be distorted to varying degrees.

Again it is difficult to say, yes here was the message and this is how your four lower bodies distorted it. Because again this is a mechanical process, but it is not that you can see a clear cause and effect sequence, it is therefore, unpredictable. And that is why I am saying there is no clear explanation for this. That is why a lot of dreams you just do not pay attention to and you are very discerning about even lucid dreams and how to interpret them.
