Great wealth and our divine plan

Question: There is a saying related to the acquisition of wealth in this world that says: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all things will be added unto you.” Many of us have been seeking the kingdom of God for a very long time with varying degrees of success but find that not much has been added on. Can the ascended masters comment on this?

Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2024 Easter webinar

Well, the first thing to consider here is whether it is in your Divine Plan to have great wealth. There are people who formulate this belief that if they seek first the kingdom of God by focusing on spiritual pursuits then somehow automatically or magically great wealth will drop in their lap. You see for example many people who follow the law of attraction and expect that by focusing on the positive, giving affirmations, making a treasure map—suddenly, magically great wealth will be given to them.

They do not really have a practical idea how this can happen but this is the same with many spiritual people. You know you cannot have this magical thinking where you think that: “If I just focus on the spiritual and studying spiritual teachings and giving vocations and decrees then somehow automatically wealth is going to come to me without me doing anything.” I mean the law is the law in the physical octave. There are certain mechanics of how the law works in order to have wealth you have to provide a product or service that benefits other people. And you may say: “Well I am giving invocation and decrees and that helps raise the consciousness and purify the planet so that is benefiting other people.”

Yes, but in the current situation people are not going to pay you to do that because they do not see that as a value. You have to provide something that they see as having a value. We see many spiritual people who misunderstand this and go into this magical thinking. But many of you are spiritual people and so you have in your Divine Plans deliberately not that you want to achieve great wealth because in order to achieve great wealth in this world you have to do certain things that takes up your time, your energy, your attention and therefore it takes you away from your spiritual pursuits.

Most of you have that you want to make a comfortable living and have enough time left over for your spiritual pursuits. And this will mean that in most cases you will not accumulate great wealth. There are always exceptions here and there but in general. Consider whether it really is in your Divine Plan to have great wealth or just to have an adequate standard of living. Consider if you still have some remnants of this magical thinking where you think that somehow if you do God’s work God is going to drop money in your lap.

Then realize that you still have to work with the mechanics of an unnatural planet, of a dense collective consciousness and therefore you have to provide something that other people see as being of value. And you can combine the two: spiritual growth and making a reasonable living and this is what most of you have in your Divine Plan. You also, many of you have that you want to find some kind of work or career that is part of the expression of your spiritual attainment and growth. So that by doing this form of service you are expressing your spiritual attainment but you are also making a living doing so. There are some spiritual people that we see over the years in many forms of spiritual movements, when they go into this state of mind of thinking that they just want to live like they do in a monastery where they can focus all of their attention on the spiritual pursuits or spiritual practices and then somehow their physical needs are going to be taken care of. But they do not apply the practical thinking of how is this going to happen.

Surely if you have a spiritual movement that has some kind of retreat where you can live like a monk or a nun then perhaps this can happen. But is this really in your Divine Plan when you consider that we have said that in this day and age that people who are really going to raise consciousness are the ones who live a normal lifestyle, relatively normal lifestyle, but do not live it in a normal way because you are a spiritual person focused on your spiritual growth.
