Question: E. Dunsover was not registered and B. Nadezhdin was removed from the elections in Russia. Navalny was killed. Many political prisoners are in prisons in Russia and Belarus and at the same time the majority elected Putin for a fifth term. The imperial consciousness of Russians is blocking their movement towards democracy. Seeing the reaction of the majority of Russians to the war, knowing about their imperial complex of greatness, it is difficult to imagine that they will be able to democratize within the borders of a modern empire. The creation of several Russian states, as it seems to me, would hasten the elimination of Russian imperial complexes. They would learn to cooperate between their states on equal terms. Resources would be better distributed among everyone and in one generation the Russians would come to a democratic consciousness like the Germans after Hitler. How viable is such a scenario?

Well, it is certainly one of the possible scenarios that can be the outcome of this downward spiral that Putin put Russia in by invading Ukraine. It is quite possible that Russia will be broken up. In fact, we have through this messenger for a long time talked about Russia being divided at least in a region that is East of the Urals and one that is West of the Urals. But of course there can also be further divisions.
And this is of course again hastened by the approach that the Russian government is taking. Where, they are primarily taking soldiers from East of the Urals or the Southern parts of Russia, people who live far away from the big cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow and they are sending them to the war in Ukraine. And there can therefore come a point where these regions, these parts of the Russian Federation, they say: “Why should we bear the brunt of this war which really does not serve our interest at all?”
Your scenario is a possible one and it would have an effect in breaking up the imperial consciousness. But you would also have to take into consideration the simple question: why is it that the Russians in St. Petersburg and Moscow have started this war and are not the soldiers fighting in it. And it is because those particular people in that region see themselves as superior to all of the other republics in the Russian Federation—superior to the people. There needs to be a greater awareness of this and a willingness to speak out about this so that these other regions can say: “Well why should we give our lives for people who look down upon us and consider us less than themselves. Why should we do the dirty work for this elite?”
If this awareness can grow then it can be one of the factors that will change the equation in Russia and either lead to a change in the mindset or to a breakup of Russia into several states or regions if you will. But it is also possible that it will have to go to a point where Russia is defeated in war like Nazi Germany was defeated in war and where the brutality of the Russian military and Russian society is exposed in these war crimes trials that can cause the rest of the world to create various sanctions against Russia, which then eventually can help the Russian people take a look at themselves and see as I have already said, the discrepancy between their sense of superiority and their actual actions.
