Ego vs. separate selves

Question: How is the ego defined in relation to all of the separate selves? Is it made up from a conglomeration of all the separate selves or does it exist as a separate and distinct entity in itself?

Answer from Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2023 Easter Webinar

I believe they have commented on this both in dictations and maybe also some questions but I’ll give a brief summary. The ego can be seen as kind of like a container for all of the separate selves but you can also say that there are some of the separate selves that are more general in terms of going into separation, seeing ourselves as a separate being. That can also be said that the ego that makes us think we are separate beings or the self that makes us think we are separate beings is what the masters have also called the ego.

You have the original ego discourses in the three books by Jesus that talk about ego and some of them talk about specific separate selves but it can also be seen as there is that one self that really makes us feel separate and that is what can be called the ego. It is just that what the masters have done is they have taken this, it can seem like a big and overwhelming task to overcome the ego so they have broken it down into these separate selves so that it is easier to overcome one self at a time.
