Question: I have a question about the future development prospects of Armenia. The Republic of Armenia is located in the Caucasus region and borders Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia. In 1915, the Ottoman Empire, Turkey, carried out the Armenian genocide and killed 1.5 million Armenians. In 2020 and 2023, Azerbaijan conducted military operations at Nagorno-Karabakh, and around 100,000 Armenians from Artsakh were forced to leave their homes and flee to Armenia. What are the prospects for Armenia’s democratic development and possible accession to the EU in the near future? Will Nikol Pashinyan be able to continue the course towards European integration, or will pro-Russian forces come to power in the elections? What are the spiritual causes behind the Armenian genocide carried out by the Ottoman Empire? What qualities are characteristic of the Armenian people as a whole? Personally, I can point to their humanity, kindness, willingness to help others, strong family values and creative potential.

Well, it is a good development that you are seeking to approach the EU. It is not realistic in the near future, partly because there are certain demands for gaining membership of the EU that you are not meeting yet, and partly because there is a very strong opposition from Russia. You are talking about pro-Russian forces, but let us just talk about Russia itself who are directing these forces, and there is a very strong opposition to this. As long as the Putin Empire is intact and the current empirical attitude of Russia is intact, there will be that strong opposition, and they will simply attempt to inflame the conflicts within the country and with its neighbors so there will be more of these conflicts.
In terms of the spiritual causes behind the Armenian genocide, well, it is really—I understand the question, but it is not really realistic to talk about spiritual causes. You are talking more about karmic forces that go way back beyond recorded history. Really, what happens in these situations is that there is a group of people who in a distant past created karma by attacking another group of people, and now the roles are reversed. And it may seem that in the meantime, the Armenian people have made progress and become less aggressive, and I will not disagree that they have, but in 1915 it was not enough to stop the development. Today they have made more progress.
What you still see in these regions, not just in Armenia, but in the regions in general around them, is this wanting to hold onto something old, traditional values, a certain lifestyle, a certain way of looking at life. And many among the people still hold onto this, especially those who live outside cities in rural areas. And this goes for the entire region, including most of Turkey, where there is still this holding onto the old, and that prevents the unfolding of the creative potential.
Really, the situation could change once the Putin regime is no longer in power. But it depends on whether Russia can make the transition to abandon its ambitions of becoming an empire and its willingness to use force. In that case, both Georgia and Armenia could potentially, including Moldova, become members of the EU, and it could happen relatively quickly. But so far, it is not realistic in the near term.
