Alan Watts

Question: Recently my path has led me to the teachings and lectures of Alan Watts, a philosopher who masterfully blends Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. His insights resonate deeply stirring thoughts of profound understanding within me. Though he modestly identifies more as a philosopher or an entertainer than a guru or spiritual teacher, his words often carry the weight of deep spiritual wisdom. As I navigate through his teachings seeking to integrate his philosophical insights through my spiritual journey, I find myself curious about the broader perspective from the Ascended Masters about the life and works of Alan Watts. Could the ascended masters guide me how to approach the teachings of Alan Watts? Are there particular aspects of his life or teachings that stand as pillars of wisdom to be embraced or perhaps cautionary elements one should know to maintain discernment? How might one best harmonize his valuable perspectives with the eternal truth and teachings of the ascended masters?

Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels.  This answer was given during the 2024 Easter webinar

Well, as we have said before, there are many, many people on earth who have reached a level of consciousness where they can tune in to some higher level and therefore, bring forth some ideas from there. What you need to do in such situations is simply use your intuition. Tune into whether this helps you gain insights and then you use it. But you do not have to use the outer mind to decide that this means you have to accept everything that a person brings forth. You use your intuition when it gives you insights, then you take that if the person brings forth an idea or teaching that does not resonate with you intuitively, then you ignore it. It does not have to be an all or nothing.

Now, Alan Watts had some genuine insights, but he still had not gone beyond a certain focus on himself and a certain, we might say, more intellectual than spiritual pride of feeling he could grasp these concepts. In other words, he had not really surrendered the focus on himself. There is a limit to what he could see, how high he could reach. And he only occasionally was able to receive something from the ascended masters, but most of his teachings came from the lower identity or mental realm, not from false masters or imposters, but from beings there who had a higher insight than the average person on earth, but not at the level of an ascended master.
