Question: It seems that with a determined effort we can move up a great many number of levels of consciousness in one lifetime. If this is the case then why have we been in embodiment on planet earth for such a long time, and why have we had to have such an extraordinary number of physical embodiments?
Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2023 New Year’s webinar – Being a spiritual person in a chaotic world.
Well, if you are a spiritual student who reached a certain level of awareness in your previous lifetime, and if you engaged in the spiritual path and grasp what the spiritual path is about, then you have the potential to move up many steps in this lifetime. But this does not mean that in your first embodiment, or in many of your previous embodiments, you had the potential to move up many steps. This was all a matter of your individual growth process. And as we have said before, you need to have a certain amount of experiences before you can move up to the higher levels of consciousness.
You can say that for a long time after you come into embodiment you need to simply have many, many experiences, often repetitive experiences, before you transcend a certain level of consciousness and come one or a few steps up. But as you have moved up to a certain level where you can become consciously aware of the path and follow a spiritual teaching that is then when you have the potential to move up many steps.
