Question: Where, by whom, and for what reason are animals created? I heard that animals also have group souls. What does group mean here and how is it formed? And does the animal soul disappear when the group is destroyed, or does it reincarnate?
Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2025 USA Conference.
This is a nuanced question, because we have given teachings, even in previous dispensations, that animals were not created by God, so to speak, as it says in the Bible. However, when you take the teachings we have given in this dispensation, you will see that the material world has four levels: the identity, mental, emotional and physical.
If we focus on earth, to make it simpler, when the earth was first created by the Elohim, the first group of self-aware beings that took embodiment, so to speak, on earth, took embodiment in the identity realm, not in the physical. But the Elohim did start a process in the physical. That is what science has identified as the process of evolution. It is just that this process is not mechanical, it is not unconscious, it is not based on chance. As Maitreya even explained in his book quite a number of years ago, there are certain stages in the evolutionary process. At a certain point, the ascended masters step in, take the process to another level, but then they allow the process to gradually unfold at that level.
There was the creation of the physical earth, there was the creation of the first life form. But when the first life form was created, there was a period, a very long period, where the single-celled organisms were allowed to develop gradually. Then multi-celled organisms were brought forth through a revolutionary shift, and several shifts occurred until more sophisticated animals were brought forth. This does not mean that the Elohim created the animals in their present form, or for that matter, in previous forms like the dinosaurs. It means that they were allowed to develop, to evolve gradually. And this was done partly as a backup plan. If the beings who incarnated in the identity realm would sink into a lower state of consciousness, or if those who took embodiment first in the mental realm, or those who took embodiment first in the emotional realm, would sink into a lower state of consciousness, so that they needed to embody in the physical realm. Meaning that the evolutionary process gradually brought forth human bodies with a sophisticated enough brain and nervous system, and sophisticated enough dexterity, that self-aware beings could take embodiment in them.
Now back to the question about animals and group souls. Well, a human being has an individual soul, because it has an I AM Presence in the spiritual realm that sent an extension of itself, the Conscious You, into embodiment. The individual being comes from above. We generally do not use the word soul about human beings, but just to stay with the concept in the question.
Animals, even though they have individual physical bodies, they do not have individual souls. But as we have explained, each animal has an elemental being, and the elemental being can evolve and grow. And especially those animals who interact with humans, especially cats and dogs, but also certain others, the elemental can grow to where it eventually can receive self-awareness and embody in a human body. But when you look at an animal population, especially the animals that do not have contact with humans, there is just a group soul, a group matrix for that kind of animal. Which basically means that, if you look at a herd of wildebeest on the African savannah, there is not much room for individual behavior. They are all pretty much following a certain matrix. And that is what we mean when we say they have a group soul, because there is a matrix that they all follow, and they do not deviate very much from it. Higher primates can have more of an individuality, because they have a more advanced nervous system.
But the individuality comes from the elemental being. You could say, does the animal soul disappear when the group is destroyed? Well, yes, it does not reincarnate. But the elemental can move on and potentially take on creating the physical body of another animal, potentially a higher form of animal. But there are also elementals that do not evolve, and therefore, can even go lower, and, for example, take on a plant form. Again, there is no absolute answer to this question. It depends on certain factors.
