Question: In Chapter 7 of Connecting with Your Spiritual Teachers, Shiva says that the images in our minds about what it means to connect with the Masters can block our connection. He clarifies that if the Masters lived up to those images, they would validate that our images were correct so they do not live up to them. My question is, why cannot the Masters simply bypass those images and give us a true experience of connecting —just an initial experience—so that we can have a clear frame of reference of what connecting means? That should make it much easier for us to then let go of any false or limiting beliefs. Assuming we ask for such an experience, would this not still be in accordance with the law of free will? It seems very difficult to know what images are false without first having a more tangible experience of what is real. Why can’t it be easier to have that real experience? The same goes for an experience of ourselves as pure awareness.

I understand the question but it is based on a misunderstanding of what it means to connect. What we have explained, many of us, not only Shiva, is that we are always ready and willing to connect to you. We do not limit the connection, but your mental images do, and we cannot bypass those images because you would not be able to see it. A perception filter is a perception filter. It is like putting on yellow glasses and you are seeing the sky as green. We cannot appear to you in a pure form as long as you are holding on to the images because you would not be able to see it. Your images would color the appearance and therefore, you would believe that our appearance conforms to your images.
That is why the only way out of this is that you become aware of what images you have, see these subconscious selves, let go of the images and the selves. Then you can experience our presence as it is. And this is not beyond what can be done, which is why we have given all of these many dictations and tools in the book.
