Question: The ascended masters very often say that we cannot be attached to earthly pleasures, but I really like dancing, it makes me happy. I do not want to quit dancing, how can I combine dancing and my spiritual growth without attachment?
Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given during the 2024 New Year webinar.
Well, I know this will sound like a silly answer, but you have to not be attached to dancing, continue dancing without being attached to it. What is dance? It is movement, right? If you are holding onto the wall of the dance hall, how can you dance? Find a way in your mind to do the dancing, enjoy the dancing without being attached to it.
An attachment is an obsessive compulsive need to do something, which actually prevents you from doing it with a neutral or peaceful state of mind. It really prevents you from enjoying it from a higher level of enjoyment. You can also be attached to the spiritual path, and this prevents you from enjoying walking the spiritual path, as many ascended master students have demonstrated over the years, including this messenger when he was younger. Whatever you do on earth, if it is not harmful to other people, try to attain that state of non-attachment where you do not feel a compulsion to do it, you do not feel that you could not pause it for a time or even give it up for a time.
You could say that one way to approach this is to set your priorities. What is most important to you? Dancing or the spiritual path? If you decide that the spiritual path is most important, then you can ask yourself the question: Could I give up dancing? And if the answer is no, then you have an attachment to dancing. When you can say, completely neutrally: Yes I could give it up, then you do not have an attachment, and then you do not have to give it up.
The old ascetic view of the spiritual path is not what we are promoting in the Aquarian age. You do not have to give up all worldly activities in order to make progress on the spiritual path. But you do of course have to give up some worldly activities that are detrimental to your spiritual progress. It does not matter how much you enjoy smoking pot or drinking beer, it will not be compatible with your spiritual progress. But dancing is not one of those activities unless it is something that forces your energies into the base chakra and therefore, creates an imbalance in your base chakra.
