Question: My brother-in-law and his wife had a baby a few weeks ago. The baby was unexpectedly born with a congenital heart condition, pulmonary stenosis, which required very serious open heart surgery. He is still alive today, but the situation remains critical. What are the most common spiritual reasons for babies to be born with conditions like this? Or alternatively could this just be another example of how the cookie crumbles on a planet like earth?

In many cases this is simply because of inherited traits, genetic mutations, or specific physical conditions in the child. But there are certainly cases where it is more of a karmic condition and where it is an outpicturing of the consciousness of the individual. I am not making any remarks about this specific case. I am talking in general terms. There are people who have these serious heart conditions because in past lifetimes they have not developed the heart, the ability of the heart. I am here talking about the heart chakra, but this has a correspondence to the physical heart. It can of course also be what you might call a karmic condition in the sense that they display heartless behavior towards other people in the past life and therefore, have this karma of having a weak heart.
I am not saying this is the case in all cases, as I said, sometimes it is just simply conditions, physical conditions that are difficult to predict. But there is of course, it is safe to assume at least that there is always some connection between the physical and the spiritual conditions. There is something to be learned from it.
