What music should we avoid?

Question: How can we determine what music to avoid? Is it a matter of just avoiding music that makes us sad or that agitates us, or do we need to be aware of specific harmonies, rhythms, styles, or delivery of music – for example, electronic music or extremely loud music as in movie theaters? Are there any working parameters?

The simplest way, my beloved, to evaluate music is to train your ability to feel in your heart, as we have said before, whether something raises or lowers your energy. It is possible to determine this by tuning in to your heart chakra. This does not only apply to music, but basically when you increase the sensitivity enough to anything you encounter in the physical octave. You can go into a restaurant, and if you are attuned to your heart chakra, you can look over the menu and feel which items on the menu raise or lower your vibration. If none raise your vibration, then you could walk out and find another restaurant. The same thing with music.

Many people have adopted an attitude that they are supposed to listen to music, but where does this come from, other than from the industry that wants to sell you more music? You have no obligation to listen to music. You certainly have no obligation to always be listening to music. Why are you afraid of silence? Silence may just be the backdrop you need to hear your higher self or your ascended teachers. Now, if music and certain types of music inspire you and raise your energy, expand your consciousness, then by all means listen to it. But you can easily feel what music that is, and it can vary from person to person. It varies with the level of consciousness.

I know that in the past we have said that certain types of music are to be avoided. Those teachings are, to a large degree, still valid, and valid for many people. Nevertheless, there are exceptions to everything, so in this day and age we do not wish to come out with firm, set teachings of what to avoid, of what to listen to. There are, of course, certain types of music that most people should avoid: anything that takes your energy down, that has a syncopated beat, that beats the energies down into the base chakra and therefore stirs up the base chakra and can give rise to sexual fantasies or inordinate sexual desires.

But there are also certain types of what many spiritual people call positive or uplifting music that will not necessarily take your energies down, but they do not contribute to an upward spiral either. They can very well take your attention away from listening with the heart. The important point is: Feel what the music does to your energy in terms of raising or lowering it, but also determine to have some times where you listen to the silence.
