Question: As I understand it, the I AM Presence is first created as a light image and then the Creator animates this light image by investing it with the Conscious You. Further, when the I AM Presence extends itself into the material world, does it extend its Conscious You or is it something else?

Yes, your understanding is not what we teach. The I AM Presence is created as a mental image in the mind of ascended masters. In your case, being in the seventh sphere, your I AM Presence was created as a mental image in the mind of ascended masters in the sixth sphere. And they are the ones who are animating the I AM Presence. You can say it is the light of the Creator ultimately, but it is not the Creator who directly creates your I AM Presence. It is the ascended masters who formulate the mental image and they imbue it with the light that they have internalized, which of course ultimately comes from the Creator, but there are many steps in between in the cosmic hierarchy.
When the I AM Presence decides that it wants to experience the unascended sphere from the inside, it sends the Conscious You as an extension of itself. In other words, while the I AM Presence is developing only in the sixth sphere, there is no Conscious You. The I AM Presence has its own self-awareness. You can say it is similar to the Conscious You, but it is, of course, it has a much more complex individuality than the Conscious You. When the I AM Presence decides it wants to experience the unascended sphere from the inside, then it sends an extension of itself, which is the Conscious You, into embodiment.
