Take a balanced approach to money

TOPICS: Nothing inherently wrong with money - attachment to money blocks spiritual growth - acquiring money without compromising spiritual laws - manipulated money system - cannot buy your way into heaven - two extremes concerning money - seek freedom through money -

Question: Yes I agree that it is better to lay up your treasure in heaven than to seek out material wealth. But what I see is that the true followers of Jesus the Christ in this world are subject to the control and manipulation of people that have money, and get tied in to these types of people’s negative energies, due to the fact they need material help from these types of people. I know what is happening; good lifestreams are subject to abuse.

Therefore is it not of some importance to have a certain amount of money supply and physical resources so that you are not subject to other people’s rules and manipulations at the physical level? It’s like this, “The owner of the house makes the rules of the house etc.” That controls the energy of that house. When you have some material supply does this not protect a person on the spiritual path from other people interfering with one’s personal freedom to pray the way they want to in their own space at home.

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels:

I agree with what you are saying. You raise several valid points. Many Christians have misunderstood my statement that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

There is nothing inherently wrong with money. Money is simply a physical representation of God’s energy. God’s energy is meant to be kept in circulation, and so is money.

What is wrong is the attachment to money. This attachment to money has had a profound influence on almost every aspect of life on this planet. When people become attached to money, it truly is very difficult for them to leave that attachment and pursue spiritual growth.

Let me remind you of my statement, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all else shall be added unto you.” Among other things, this statement means that you should never put any aspect of life in this world before your spiritual growth. Many people, whether they have money or do not have money, become so attached to money, or the pleasures of this world that can be bought for money, that they put the quest for money before the quest for spiritual growth.

I have no problem with spiritual people acquiring a reasonable amount of money that gives them personal independence and freedom. However, I must caution people that it is extremely important to acquire money without compromising the spiritual laws and the spiritual standard. This can be extremely difficult to do in today’s world, because the entire money system has been manipulated to such a degree that it is very difficult to acquire large amounts of money without compromising the laws of God. Furthermore, having a lot of money almost always leads to an attachment to that money.

Therefore, it is better to have less money than to compromise your spiritual growth in order to acquire money. This does not mean that I want people to live in poverty. It simply means that I do not want them to put the quest for money before the spiritual quest.

I see many Christians who have entered a state of consciousness in which they have put aside their personal spiritual growth, and instead they have focused on the quest for money and material possessions. Many of these Christians faithfully go to church every Sunday, and they somehow think that by going to church and by paying their tithe or giving other monetary gifts to their church, they can compensate for the fact that in their hearts they have ignored the spiritual path.

Let me remind you of my saying that it does not profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul. Let me remind you of the parable of the man who entered the wedding feast without a wedding garment. The wedding feast is a symbol of my Father’s kingdom. The wedding garment is a symbol of the Christ consciousness, the personal Christhood that all must attain before they can enter the kingdom of heaven.

If you think that you can ignore the need to put on personal Christhood and buy your way into heaven by giving to an outer church, then I must tell you that you are jeopardizing your lifestream. God is no respecter of persons, no matter what positions such persons may hold in a human hierarchy or organization. You cannot buy your way into heaven. Unfortunately, many wealthy people become so used to the fact that they can buy almost anything they want on earth that they think money will also open the door to heaven. This simply is not the case. This is truly one of the most dangerous illusions found in this world.

Once again, as I have said many times on this website, balance is the key to true spiritual growth. There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death. In reality, there are two ways that seem right to human beings, namely the two extremes created by the relativity of the dualistic mind. The dualistic mind causes people to think in terms of black and white and therefore take everything into the extremes.

In terms of money, both the way of abject poverty and the way on unnecessary abundance are extremes. Many Christians have used my statement about the camel and the rich man to seek total poverty. Poverty will not necessarily get you to heaven, just as money will not get you to heaven or keep you out of it.

What will get you to heaven is the Christ consciousness. For some people, poverty can be a way to achieve Christ consciousness, because having no money can give people a sense of freedom from material bonds. Yet, having a reasonable amount of money can, if you remain non-attached, also give you the freedom to pursue your spiritual growth.

The true way is the middle way in which a person seeks to take care of his worldly responsibilities without becoming attached to money or the pleasures of this world. Seek the middle way in all things, including all things related to money.

When I walked the earth, I said, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Since then I have grown, and today I say, “I am the middle way, the truth and the life.”
