Why do many rich and famous people self-destruct?

TOPICS: Being critical of Israeli policies is not anti-semitic - the Jews have not caused all wars; the power elite have - many Christians have negative attitude to Jews - the psychological mechanism that causes people to self-destruct - prioritizing spiritual growth over worldly things - owning your own soul - comparing yourself to others - a schism in the psyche takes away wholeness - nothing is ever enough - the ends can justify the means of killing others - dealing with having killed others - glorifying violence as a way to solve problems - making a movie about Christ in order to justify the philosophy of anti-christ - more difficult to uphold the belief that the ends justifies the means - even some Christian churches believe this -  seeking earthly membership by promoting the philosophy of anti-christ -

Question: On Friday, July 28, 2006, the actor and director Mel Gibson was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Malibu, California. According to media reports, Mel Gibson made certain comments about Jews, including: "F------ Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Why does it so often seem as if these rich and famous people who have everything cannot simply enjoy life, but they have to go to some kind of extreme that causes them to self-destruct?

Answer from ascended master Jesus through Kim Michaels: (August 7, 2006)

I realize the arrest of an actor in Hollywood is not the most important issue facing the world right now, but I wanted to comment on it because the story reveals an important underlying issue. I am using Mel Gibson as an example to illustrate this issue because his life has become very public and thus I do not violate his right to privacy.

Let me first state that although the media has made a big issue of Mel Gibson’s supposedly being anti-semitic, I champion his right to freedom of speech. I am not agreeing with what he said; I am agreeing with his right to say it—drunk or not. Expressing an opinion that is not in agreement with the policies of the state of Israel is not in itself anti-semitic.

Concerning the above quote, let me make it clear that Jews are not responsible for all the wars in the world. The power elite – in its many different factions – is responsible for all the wars in the world. Some members of the power elite are and have been Jews, but many are not. One might even say that most members of the power elite are beyond race, nationality or religion and define themselves as an elite based on other criteria. They believe they have a right to control the general population and to plunge nations into war at will, as if the world was their private chess board.

I would also like to point out that Gibson’s attitude towards Jews is not that different from the attitude of many Christians, be they Catholics or Evangelicals. Many Christians make the Jews responsible for killing Christ, but in reality – as pointed out in the book I Love Jesus, I Hate Christianity – those who killed me did not do so because they were Jews but because they took a specific approach to religion. They had become rigid and refused to change, thus being willing to do anything to silence the messenger who demanded change. Unfortunately, many modern-day Christians have fallen prey to the exact same attitude, which is why they reject this website and the message of change that is presented here.

Now for the underlying issue I wanted to address. It is described in a statement I made 2,000 years ago:

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36)

In Mel Gibson we have an example of a person who seemingly has everything that worldly success has to offer—a person who has in some sense “gained the whole world.” Mel Gibson is famous, an oscar winner and has all the money anyone could want—especially after the financial success of the movie, The Passion of the Christ. Yet as this latest incident – which is just one episode in his life-long battle with alcoholism – reveals, Mel Gibson does not own his own soul. Several of his friends have remarked that when he drinks, he becomes an entirely different person, which is a common occurrence for all types of addicts.

Mel Gibson's life has followed a pattern you will see in many rich and famous people, who simply cannot enjoy their fame and success but end up destroying themselves. I would like to now explain the psychological mechanism that is behind this syndrome. And let us start out with an example from my historical life:

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. (Matthew, Chapter 4)

In this respect, it does not matter whether you believe in a personified devil that aggressively tempts people. The important issue here is that the world itself presents people with a temptation, namely whether you want to pursue success as defined by the world or success as defined by God’s reality. This is the eternal human dilemma, that I described as follows:

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew, 6:24)

Mammon is a symbol for worldly success, whether you define it in terms of fame, fortune, power or pleasure. Here comes an essential but subtle point. I am NOT saying you cannot have any of what the world has to offer. It is a common misconception that being a spiritual person means that you have to renounce ALL worldly attractions. This is not the case. The material world is made of the Mother Light, which is God’s own substance. You are a co-creator who is meant to have dominion over the earth, and you cannot exercise that dominion by withdrawing from the world. As I said:

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. (Luke 12:32)

Although this refers primarily to a state of consciousness, it does include the material aspects of God's kingdom. The important point is that you have your priorities straight, so that attaining things in the material world does not become more important to you than attaining the “things” of the spirit:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

The kingdom of God is a symbol for the Christ consciousness, and this is a frame of mind in which you have attained psychological and spiritual wholeness. You are not a house divided against itself because you have no conflicting or mutually exclusive desires or attachments. Thus, you can be said to own your soul in the ultimate sense.

What has happened to many of the rich and famous people is that – usually in a distant past life – they fell prey to the temptation of refusing to seek first the wholeness of their lifestreams, instead wanting their reward on earth:

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. (Matthew 6:2)

In doing so, they fall prey to the temptation of the ego to compare themselves to others and thus develop the desire to be “better” than others according to a worldly standard. This inevitably leads them to accept the primary temptation of the ego and the devil, namely that the ends can justify the means. The ends of attaining something on earth can justify ignoring the laws of God.

This leads people into a downward spiral of seeking to glorify themselves in comparison to other people. They now seek to raise up themselves by pushing other people down or at least raise themselves without considering the consequences it has for others. The inevitable result is that a division is created in these people’s psyches, and the more they seek to raise themselves, the deeper the schism becomes. That is why you see many of these people cross the line to insanity, despite the fact that they seemingly have everything the world can offer.

They do have everything the world can offer, but because they do not have wholeness of the psyche, they cannot attain peace of mind. Thus, no matter how much they attain, it never seems enough and they can never feel at peace. This drives them to always want more, which eventually leads them to go too far and precipitate a crash of some kind. Sometimes they wake up and change their lives, but in many cases they simply keep going until they destroy themselves completely. I think Hollywood has produced a fair share of perfect examples, but even more are found in the history books.

Now, my real aim here is to point out that Mel Gibson exemplifies a specific version of the belief that the ends can justify the means. If you will look at Mel Gibson’s movies, you will see that he often portrays a person who can be characterized as follows:

  • He is on the border or has crossed the border to insanity.
  • He is in a situation where it seems like killing other people is the only way to solve a problem.
  • Once he starts killing, he cannot stop, much like a fox in a chicken coop that kills more than it could possibly eat.

My point is that Gibson has often portrayed a person who believes in the most extreme version of the philosophy that the end can justify the means, namely that under certain conditions it is justified to kill other people. Yet once he starts killing – as in Braveheart and The Patriot – he cannot restrain himself. It is as if he crosses the line to insanity and is turned into – or taken over by – a being that kills indiscriminately, kills for the sake of killing or kills for no apparent reason.

In reality, such people are often taken over by demons who kill in order to shed the blood and thereby force a release of spiritual light that they need in order to survive. When the demon has had its fill, it leaves the person (for a time) and the person then reverts back to his or her normal state of consciousness. The person then realizes what it has done and now has to struggle to live with his actions. This then causes him to seek to justify his actions by rationalizing that the killing was somehow necessary or justified after all. And this becomes an ongoing struggle that can eat up a person’s life.

Let me assure you that killing another human being is crossing a line that leaves no person untouched. Once you take a life, you cannot simply ignore it. You must find a way to deal with this. The easy way out is the philosophy that the end can justify the means, and one of the most effective ploys of the devil is to get people to lose control for a moment and kill someone, and then have them spend lifetimes seeking to reinforce the belief that the end can justify the means. Incidentally, the real way out is to acknowledge that the killing was not justified in the eyes of God but was the result of you having been influenced by an extreme form of the consciousness of anti-christ. You can then then reach for the Christ consciousness in which killing becomes impossible.

My point is that Mel Gibson is one among many lifestreams on this planet who has spent lifetimes seeking to justify – in private and in public – the philosophy that the ends can justify the means. Most of his movies in this lifetime are designed – largely subconsciously – to glorify violence and portray it as the only way to solve certain problems.

This now leads me to Gibson’s ultimate attempt at this goal, namely the movie that was – supposedly – about me, The Passion of the Christ. The underlying message of this movie is that the killing of Christ on the cross was ultimately justified because it was ONLY through the spilling of my blood that humankind could be absolved from sin. In other words, as a subtle attempt to justify the primary philosophy of anti-christ, Mel Gibson makes a movie about Christ. And the movie’s message is that the philosophy of anti-christ is justified by the necessity of absolving humankind from sin. Christ has now – seemingly – redeemed anti-christ.

There are numerous problems with this message, but let me mention the two most obvious ones:

  • • It is incorrect. The spilling of my blood on the cross was NOT a necessary or ultimate sacrifice to “buy” humankind absolution from sin. I know many Christians will say this contradicts the Bible, but I challenge them to find one statement made by me that supports this viewpoint. There are statements by Paul that support it, but they were given specifically to get the Jews – who believed firmly in blood sacrifice – to give up their practice of sacrificing animals.
  • In reality, the ONLY road to salvation is that each human being must attain the Christ consciousness – the wedding garment – that is the ONLY way to enter God’s kingdom. That is why I said that the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21), meaning that NO OUTER CRITERIA are necessary for or can guarantee your salvation. In other words, even my death on the cross is an outer event that will not necessarily change your state of consciousness.
  • It portrays God as an angry, vengeful and cruel God who requires the killing of his only son as a payment for humankind’s sins. This is such a blasphemy against the true God of Love that it is unfathomable to me that modern people can still believe this fallacy, let alone preach it from the pulpits or movie screens.

In reality, my death on the cross was not ultimately necessary or mandated by God. I came to earth to give people – and especially certain recalcitrant lifestreams – an opportunity to meet the Living Christ and either accept or reject him. If certain lifestreams had accepted me as the Messiah, it would not have been necessary that I be crucified. Yet because these lifestreams remained closed-minded, I volunteered to let them kill me in a last attempt to open their minds to the fallacy of their actions, including their belief in the philosophy that the end can justify the means:

Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people. (John 18:14)

I hope you can see my underlying point. The very idea that the killing of one person – whether or not you believe he was God’s son – is necessary for the salvation of humankind justifies killing as a necessary evil. Thus, it justifies the primary lie of the devil, namely that the end can justify the means. The end of attaining something in this world (to save humankind) can justify violating God’s law (Thou shalt not kill).

My point being that the reason you need to be saved is that you have partaken of the consciousness of anti-christ, as I explain in great detail in my ego discourses. Thus, the ONLY way to salvation is to transcend the consciousness of anti-christ and put on the mind of Christ. YOU SIMPLY CANNOT OVERCOME THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF ANTI-CHRIST BY USING THE PRIMARY LIE PRODUCED BY THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF ANTI-CHRIST. You cannot escape the temptations of the devil as long as you believe in and seek to justify the philosophy of the devil.

In Mel Gibson’s case, his primary motivation for making this movie was a subconscious belief that it would absolve him of his past actions by proving his beliefs to be correct. In past lives Gibson actually was the kind of person portrayed in his movies and he has been struggling to justify his actions of killing or causing the killing of thousands of people. Obviously, he is not the only person in embodiment who has been responsible for the death of many people, which is why many people have sought to justify that the end can justify the means.

Mel Gibson thought he could "buy" peace of mind by making this movie, yet because he has done nothing to resolve the underlying issue (freeing himself from the lies of anti-christ), he has not attained that peace of mind, as his latest actions clearly demonstrate. This, of course, proves my point that you cannot attain peace of mind until you seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, namely the Christ consciousness in which you fully and finally rebuke the lies of the devil.

Of course, my purpose is not to focus on Mel Gibson but to use his situation to make a point that applies to the entire world. Many people are trapped in the belief that the ends can justify the means, but we have entered a transitional period where these people will find it increasingly difficult to hold on to this belief. They will either have to transcend this belief or they will act it out in an extreme manner that hopefully makes them see its underlying fallacy.

An obvious example – and what contributed to Gibson’s statements – is Israel’s war in Lebanon. As I have already explained, Israel’s leadership believes their political ends can justify the means of killing indiscriminately, and they will continue to act this out to the extreme, until it finally becomes obvious to the Israeli people and they elect another leadership.

I would also like to point out that the movie, The Passion of the Christ became successful only because several Christian churches acted as Mel Gibson’s marketing machine. They knew that the movie glorified violence and bloodshed, but they did not care because they believed it would promote their cause. In other words, they too believed the end can justify the means. They were willing to use a violent movie in order to shock people to “come to Christ.” Yet let me tell you that this movie did not make a single person come to the Living Christ that I AM. It only made people come to the false christ that has been built by the false religions that take the Lord’s Name in vain.

If the leaders of such churches were at all open to the Ascended Jesus Christ that I AM, it should give them grave concern that their churches supported a movie that spreads the philosophy of anti-christ. Yet the reality is that most of them are so blinded by that very philosophy that they can no longer see reality. Thus, they have become the blind leaders, and both them and their followers will surely fall into the ditch and destroy themselves from within. One obvious example is the statements made by Pat Robertson over the past several months.

It is not to my liking that the movement that claims to represent me on earth has become so blinded by the consciousness of anti-christ that it is willing to seek earthly glory – in the form of members, money and power – instead of seeking to remain true to the Living Christ. Yet my immediate purpose for this article is to help sincere spiritual seekers see through the fallacy of basing your life on the search for earthly glory of any kind.

Take note that I am not hereby saying you should renounce owning or doing anything in this world. Do not fall for the black-and-white or the gray thinking of the ego. Seek instead the inner wholeness of the Christ mind and then let God give you the earthly things that you need in order to fulfill your mission in this lifetime. It is the ONLY way to attain peace of mind. No possession or accomplishment in this world will buy you peace on earth or entry into heaven.
