How to know that the ascended masters are real

Q: If I was to see the masters in physical embodiment, so to speak, that would give me the reassurance that they are real, but it would also hinder the reality that we are not physical. And it might actually make me think that we’re it, we are already there, when we are not. So I have to go beyond the outer senses. That would probably reinforce the fact that, hey, we can stay here, and I don’t think that would be beneficial. But it would be reassuring if you could actually see them. Even for myself I don’t see the masters. I have always wondered as to how other individuals might see them, and at this conference I’m determined to keep my eyes open, so to speak.

This answer was given by Kim Michaels at a conference in Holland.

Kim: Yes, I understand what you mean. When you become an ascended master student, you are going against the mass consciousness, which denies that there is such a thing as ascended masters or a spiritual realm. Or they might not deny that it’s there, but then they say, as for example the Catholic Church says: “Ordinary people can’t experience it. Only the priests and those who are special can see this directly, so you just need to believe what we tell you.” And that’s what we’ve been brought up with.

You are really going against the mass consciousness, and so, of course, it would be nice to have some kind of confirmation. I feel I have had lots of confirmation that the masters are real. It just hasn’t been at the level of the physical senses. I think most of you probably also have had an inner confirmation that is beyond the senses, but that you still know is real. I feel that this is an important part of the stage we are at on earth.

I think there probably will come a time in the future when the masters will manifest physically or will be visible physically. But that will happen when most people no longer need it because the consciousness will have been raised. The challenge right now is that we who are the spiritual people need to demonstrate that we are willing to go beyond the physical proof, the physical senses, and still accept that something is real.

I am reminded of something that’s parallel to this. In Denmark there was a book published this spring, and the title of it is: “I Met Jesus.” This was a Danish lady who was a journalist, and she grew up in a sort of Marxist family that denied any spirituality. She had never gone to church and never been interested in anything spiritual. On a work trip in Spain she went into an old church, and all of a sudden she had a vision of Jesus standing next to her. It was a vision. He wasn’t physically there, but it was so real. It was like she saw him, like a window opened and she was seeing him standing in Israel dressed the way they were back then. He spoke to her in Aramaic. She realized later that it was Aramaic, and she couldn’t understand the words, but she still understood what he was trying to communicate with her.

Despite the fact that she was brought up to deny anything spiritual, she couldn’t deny this vision. For the first couple of years she didn’t tell anybody about it. As a journalist she went around and interviewed all of these experts in brain chemistry or how the brain works. I personally feel, although she doesn’t say this in her book, that she was just looking for somebody who would tell her: “Oh, it was just a complete hallucination. Forget all about it.” But nobody did, to her surprise.

They all kept saying that there are lots of things about the brain and the mind that we don’t understand. Some would even say that there has got to be more to the mind than what we can physically explain in the brain. It was like they all guided her along to this point where she finally said: “Okay, well, I have to write about this experience.” So she wrote this book that was published by a well-known publishing house and became a best-seller.

I thought that this was very interesting, because it’s the same dynamic. She had an inner experience, but it was so real to her that she couldn’t deny it. She actually dared to stand out in front of all of the skeptics. She expected that she would be attacked, but to her surprise she wasn’t. I think it was because she was so genuine about it. She wasn’t trying to preach to anybody. She wasn’t saying anything about what this means. She was just saying: “I had this experience, and I can’t deny it. And this is how it affected me and how I felt about it.” She described the whole process she went through.

I think that this, in a sense, is what we are all going through. We are here to demonstrate to other people. We are not here to necessarily attract people to the ascended masters’ teachings or to a particular group or philosophy or teacher or anything like that. But we are here to witness to the fact that there is something beyond the physical, and it’s still real and has value for us.
