Question: Can the masters comment on the practice or requirement of tithing?
Answer from the Ascended Master Mother Mary through Kim Michaels. This answer was given at a conference in Washington, D.C. (USA) in 2019.
Well, it is a tradition that goes back very far into biblical times. It is always referred back to Abraham. But nevertheless, in the modern age, in the aquarian age, we do not encourage it. We have not asked anybody to give 10% of their income to this movement. You give what you feel is appropriate, and you do not jeopardize your personal economy. It really is a concept that from time to time has been manipulated by the fallen beings. The Catholic church, for example, has used this to manipulate people into giving money to the church. And this has allowed the church to continue far longer than it really should have, and therefore, the people tithing have actually made karma by prolonging the life of the church or preventing changes. The same can be said by other churches that are not sponsored or supported by the ascended masters.
You always have this situation where some spiritual movements that are guided by this epic mindset will use this to get people to give a lot of money to the organization. And this is not a healthy situation. It is not something we encourage here. An ascended master organization, first of all, it is not a profit making venture. It is not about money. It is not about making money. And you can always say: “Well, you need money to promote the teachings.” But do you really, if you have the Internet and people are willing to use it. You do not need that much more money to promote the teachings. It really just is not necessary in this age. There can be situations where, for example, a movement would say: “We have a plan for a specific project and we are asking for donations for this.” But to give tithe on a regular basis is not necessary. You are, of course, free to do this on an individual basis if you feel this is what you want to do. But it is not something we are demanding from anyone.
